I grew bored of Guild Wars FAST. I had always thought I'd never have any interest in Guild Wars 2, but after seeing this video, it seems ArenaNet are pulling out all the stops to make combat as fun and engaging as it can possibly be. I am definately going to be buying this game. Just wow.
Yes it was a troll post. Just wanted to show how dumb it is that on a daily basis have to defend a game against people that throw a personal opinion around as a fact. Yes, i'm talking about TOR.
Even though i'm a SW geek at heart and am truly waiting for TOR to be released, i think AN is doing a bang up job with this game. Looks like they have a winner for sure.
This was my whole point to my post. I can't see why alot of people on this site think they have to like one game over another. everyone has differant tastes, like and dislikes. We should all hope for both games, hell all up and coming games, to be monumental success's and push the genre into a more balanced and healthier state it's in right now.
Dude what are you even talking about? Sorry, I gotta call BS on this guy. I don't buy the social expirement or whatever he is trying to say. I think he made the post in all sincerity, then watched a train of people point out his idiocy, read up on GW2 and then realized he was completely talking out of his ass. I call them like I see them folks.
And yeah, Warrior looks CrAzY AHHHHWWWWSSSUUUMMMM. I am dying to know what the other armored class or classes will be like - they gotta be doing a hybrid caster/armor (read: PALADIN) class, or maybe geared towards damage. On the faded class line up on the site I think I see an armored dude on the far right, yes? Regardless, I only play tanks and if I gotta roll WAR in GW2 to tank then so be it., no complaints here.
Sorry, but yes it was a troll post that was made to show how over zealous and rabid people can come into another game forum and spew an opinion out as a fact just to incite hatred. Not to say that i have been keeping up with every little detail about GW2, but if you think i am some person who has no clue about the game to only get called out on it is being very naive at best.
I am sorry i interupted this thread with my little expirement, but since GW2 is goona be a huge game with so much hype it seemed the perfect place to come to.
GW2 a beacon of light in the darkest days of mmorpg's
Even in the valley of shadows we'll bring forth the light.
This game could be really good.
I think it will, but it is not the only beacon of hope. CCPs World of darkness online will probably be great too.
And there are several others, GW2 is just one of the first games that are trying to get away from the really ancient EQ mechanics most of us are really tired of now.
We sure could use more companies like Anet and CCP .
I don't know about this. Not really sure if this is gonna be just a single player online game. I mean, i don't see any group play in any of the video's, this one included. It also looks like the mobs go down pretty easy as well, so you probably will be able to solo level and never need to group up. The graphics as well, kinda looks like the run of the mill, nothing spectacular. I also read that there is a personal story system in place and it will be instanced. So that tends to make me believe that the world will be very small and linear.
Man, I know what you're trying to do here....
But repeating the same nonsense people have been spewing over the TOR forums for months now isn't going to make them stop over there ;p
The irony is a bit lost as well...
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Dam that was impressive.... especially considering this is an mmo those animations are amazing.
Well, I didn' t see a fifty characters running around - so not sure how that relates much to an MMO, but was I the only one who didn't like the flashy effects and poor (overpowering) physics displayed in the video?
I was hoping for something much more realistic, something like the final fight in Hellboy 2 between Hellboy and the Prince - where they both have their own styles, but somehow they manage to have a bad ass fight without their weapons shooting fireworks or producing unrealistic effects.
They have announced "active blocking" so that you will block with your shield so long as you hold down the skill button making blocking a very tacticle choice.
the class is called "Warrior" and he's got BERSERKER STANCE???
this is such a WoW copy lol rofl....
sorry... someone had to do it anyway - amazing vids... GW2 does look kind of awesome tbh
Dude! If you had any idea of what your talking about you would know that anybody involved in the making of GW2 that really matters, was also the crew that STARTED! Blizzard North on their path to glory. (All that berserker stance stuff was their creativity in the first place)
Since they left Blizzard, WoW has turned into a GUMBY world for children, with instant gratifications, almost like FarmVille. Anet said they're not interested in creating a WoW killer BIMHO that's exactly what they've done. Amen!
I admit it I'm kind of fanboy ish... But I’m also one of those old time vets, I’ve been around the MMO scene since the beginning, BBS, U8, EQ and I haven't just played a couple weeks of them, I play SWG for a couple years, WoW for a year (OMG a year how did I survive) my point is not one of them have made the changes needed to make a game great, they all focused on making money.
In GW case they look at things differently," if we make a great game, we will make great money, and the game isn't great until the players tell us it's great."
GW2 is the face of a new age in MMO history, anything that has come before shouldn't even be compared.
How do you know that the player and monster are equal level? Why would they care about mob level when they are just caring about showcasing the skill? For all we know the player could be over 9,000 level and the monster -38 level. Yes! Negative levels! Hahaha.

You should think about these things. =]
This is exactly right. For the sake of making the attacks look the best the mobs are usually the lowest level possible and the character much higher. Think about the obvious.
Dam that was impressive.... especially considering this is an mmo those animations are amazing.

Hellboy 2? Should really have chosen an analogy from a movie that didn't suck dinosaur-sized arse.
I really can't believe how stupid some people on this earth really are. People on this site are supposed to interested in MMOs and therefore are supposed to know some of the actual basic ideas and facts about them. But I guess it is no different than any other aspect of society really - the level of ignorance coupled with really gargantuan delusions of intelligence is staggering.
It just bothers me sometimes how some people can be here purporting to know something about MMOs and how dangerous the complete and utter crap they spout can be to the impressionable.

I'll bite. Troll accepted.
The skills look like they do as a visual indication of what they do and reflect the weapon it came from. This is largely from experience ArenaNet had with GW with their lackluster skill animations that you couldn't tell what they were just by seeing them half the time. PvP is going to be a big portion of this game, and being able to identify what those are is a big part of PvP.
As for different fighting styles, we will have more than 1 melee class and they should have entirely different feels to them. Each profession is unique.

Did you actually write that? You should maybe stop trying to use a computer. Your post makes no sense.
Just because you're a fanboy, doesn't permit you to turn off your brain when discussing a game.

First of all, learn what a trolling post is before you start accusing people of making them.
Now re-read what you wrote, then watch the video. Now explain to me this. The girl goes to block the lizard's fire attack with her shield , and a magical force shield extends up from the top of her shield to offer her more protection than a shield actually would.
In PVP, if someone hides behind their shield like she is doing - do you really need the unrealistic illustration to show you that she's blocking with a shield?
Go into your garage. Pick up your broom. Jump as high as you can and slam it into the ground. Let me know if everything in your garage is knocked over.
In the example I gave, you have a cool fight between two people with different fighting styles, and there's no Tekken FightKIng001 physics. How is that possible?

Quite simply, yes, you do need the "unrealistic illustration" to show that she's blocking with a shield. The developers have mentioned that it is possible to block with one's shield at any time, but that some skills involve blocking too. Obviously they'll have to differentiate visually between those skills and simple blocking.
The design team have specifically stated that they are placing larger emphasis on effects so that combat will be a more visual experience as opposed to a text-based experience. The effects are meant to be overstated so that players can work out what's going on or what is about to happen without having to mouse over target cast bars. They used the Elementalist spell Phoenix as an example. It was easy to work out from the provided video that the phoenix flies out towards a target, hitting all mobs along the way, then flies back to the caster, once again hitting all mobs along the way, and finally heals the caster. We weren't given an ounce of text information about the spell until weeks after the video was first released, but we could easily work that out.
If you're looking for realism, why are you playing fantasy games that involve sorcery and magical races? I, for one, appreciate the fact that they're trying to stop us from having to sit there reading walls of text and instead are encouraging people to simply have fun.

Are you familiar with the term "strawman"?
Let's focus just on this sentence: The design team have specifically stated that they are placing larger emphasis on effects so that combat will be a more visual experience as opposed to a text-based experience..
Now, I've already twice mentioned a very cool combat scene from a movie (that uses pictures) not from a book (that uses text), that didn't involve magical light shooting out from everything, but you go on to conclude "If you're looking for realism, why are you playing fantasy games that involve sorcery and magical races?" Oh, you thought Hellboy was a documentary of real life events?
Why are you defending the developer's actions, when I've clearly illustrated , that for my preference stupid graphical effects makes the game less interesting? My personal hype level for this game went from a 9.5 to a 7, based on those videos.
Is decreasing realism in combat really what the industry should be shooting for? "Obviously they'll have to differentiate visually between those skills and simple blocking." So, that's your theory? There is only one way to show a shield blocking effect. Any other way must involve light beams shooting of the shield. They must have the worst animation staff in the market, one way to swing a weapon, one way to block with a shield etc etc.

GW2 is on the march to Victory! At this point, this game deserves the hype it is getting. Only time will tell if it is all worth it.
I have never played GW1 or even though about playing GW2... until I watched those movies. The animation is very nice on those.
