Roma Victor: New Updates & Screens

AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

Redbedlam made a ton of updates to the official site today. They posted a lengthy "State of the World" article that updates fans with a status report on Roma Victor as well as a massive list of features that will be in the game.  The community can give feedback on statement at their site at this link.

They also added 50 new screenshots to their official gallery.  We have added some of these to our gallery for Roma Victor, which you can see below:

Wow. They've come a long way from when they started let me tell you. Seeing as the entire development team consists of no more than 50 people (generous estimate I made from the number of redbedlam signatures on the forum) and the game has been in development for about as long as morrowind was, this game sets the standard for productivity from a development team. This is going to be an even larger map than WWIIOL. The state of the world has really set things straight. Graphics may not be quite as shiney, but they are apparently twice as functional (you can tell the time of day by looking at shadows). A big hats off to the little guys. Sony never has and never will have the guts to take on a project this ambitious. A few geeks in Brighton did it with the money from donations and a hardworking community. Here's to progress.

At one point I really wanted to play this game, despite the dated FX due to the concept and setting. But once they went to a project Entropia style real world money system this game can suck my balls.  Nothing worse then a game world where everybody and I mean everybody is trying to screw you in game becasue it equalls free money in their bank account. To even compete you have to spend so much RW money that it makes a standard mmorpg subscription look as cheap as a 10 cent kidney pie. Screw that and screw this game.

Can't take money out of the game. PE had the huge scamming and balancing issues because they had to make it so that they could still make a profit even when people were cashing in on the system. This wouldn't have been a problem if they made it a one way street. Roma Victor has a system that may be similar, but it is not the same.

I think PE has sorted out the balance of funds. The frequency of loot varies considerably as the system distributes more or less based on its analysis of the balance.

I have been playing Project Entropia for about 4 months now and when I started I spent about £60 ($120) on equipment. Last week I transferred enough to pay my mortgage directly out of the game and a few days ago I worked out that my character is worth the equivalent of $4,500, all of which can be withdrawn at any time.

It may not be an easy game and it is essential that you get good guidance before you waste your money but if you do it right you can make good money from Project Entropia.

Let's also not forget another important part of the revenue model...It has not been given in its entirety. Only a glimpse of what's planned. RedBedlam has already spoken about how in the end they control inflation etc. within the ingame economics. So in theory if money begins to run amok they easily step in and do what needs to be done to correct the issue. Their overall plans in THAT area have yet to be put on official pages. So before making a final conclusion, let's wait until the last aspect of the model has been put forth ::::28::

As was stated above, we dont yet know the full scope of the VERM.  You don’t need to pay for money, you can earn the same currency in game if you wish.  Or, if you want to look at it this way, you can pay a monthly payment like you do in other games, except here, you get in game currency for paying a "monthly fee".  But no payment is required to play the game.  You can purchase the box, or download the client and purchase an auth key, from then on, you don’t have to pay a cent if you don’t want to.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Think of it as a donation system...that gives back.

Here’s a quote from the VERM:

"One way of looking at the system is to consider it much like a video game arcade within an amusement park. Visitors to the park typically pay an entry fee (equivalent to the initial purchase of a Roma Victor account or retail box), then within the arcade real money can be exchanged for tokens, which can be slotted into the video game machines. The difference with this particular arcade is that as well as being able to spend their tokens playing the games, anyone visiting could also set up their own arcade game and earn tokens.

As time progresses we'll release more information and explain in more detail how things work, how much we believe players are likely to spend etc. and of course answer any questions and address any concerns that the community members may have."

The primary goal of RedBedlam (if you check out their site) is to realize virtual economies and create virtual worlds.  Philip Holmes is their virtual Economist, not a developer that they gave the job of designing their economy, he studies them, KFR recruited him for his knowledge about that subject.

From what I've seen, I think the game is in good hands, and on track to create some ripples in the MMOG community.  What I would suggest to the skeptic is to head over to the boards and check out the posts made by KFR, PJH, NGW, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />DJL, and company.  It's alot of reading, but you'll learn something about these guys that sets them apart from the rest.

This game wont be for everyone, it appeals to a specific crowd.  Those interested in history are what you'll mainly find on our boards.  Also those that like the open-endedness of the game, and the fact that you will truly be able to do just about anything you want...with consequences of course.  ;)

Wow, this post went on way too long.  Sorry about that.  :)

Yes, there are heated debates on the forums about which is better, graphics or gameplay.  Obviously everyone has their opinion.  However KFR has stated that the graphics will get better.  I dont imagine them making it to EQ2 quality before release...and maybe not even after, but if you take a look a the first screenshots, you can see the progression of the graphics quality.  And the good news is, they can, and will only get better.

I myself am torn on the graphics to gameplay issue.  You obviously need good of both.  Bad graphics, and people wont even bother to try the game (well, most people).  Bad gameply, and it wont even matter how good your graphics are.  So you need graphics to capture people, and gameplay to keep them.  ;)
