Whats your role in MO ??

DolmongDolmong Member Posts: 515

I am patching now, and I have been exciting about my upcoming MO experience.

Since this game is purely sandbox we have to create content by ourselves to make the game rich, I felt that I might finally have settle a game that offered around the same pace as SWG, and I can finally continue my role.

I am planning to continue my role on building a city, where I was a mayor/architect for the past 3-4 years in SWG and I was enjoy being a merchat/mayor/architect.

I love building home for people, design furniture styles and decorate, and most important, I provided a city for guilds to settle on which made me felt very satisfy and successful.

I am going to continue this role and is a tough task, but I built my own city in SWG by only myself with all the hardwork recruiting, advertising in Bestine, and negotiating with other merchants.  I find that in MO really need these kinds of materials to make MO riches again !

so .... tell me whats your role ? =)

See you guys in Game.

Dolmong the Architect <--- remember me !! =p

    If and when I do hop in (no means to at the moment), I will take up 3 roles;

    Master Extractor / Armorsmith

    Master Tamer / Archer

    Master Fighter / Explorer

To the OP though, the spaces for housing placement are very limited, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them all taken in the first week. People know about them from beta. If you really want to get in on construction you'll have to join a guild asap so that you're guaranteed some work. All the solo spots are going to be gone, and protecting the site will be hard with PvP back in full swing.

Writer / Musician / Game Designer

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture

    Thx for info !! =)

I'll try for what I can do, if I can't accomplish it, then I might start a new role to play on !! =)

I want to start this topic because this is truely sandbox game, and I know many people might felt lack of content (which is not the point of MO), so I wanna try and lead them think about what they want to achieve in this game.

I might be the Mighty Warrior at the end, evil dictator =p or maybe a Merchant whos very popular.  Who knows, I think this game offered us huge range of variety.

Melee/Magic Hybrid support character. I'll do semi-decently well in Melee combat but I'll be able to heal guild mates and switch to magic quickly when people try to run.

Once I get the start-up funds and the economy starts rolling in earnest I'll probably be a trader.

I made decent gold buying mats from people in one town, moving them to another and selling them there during OB, so hopefully I can do the same thing now.

I keep the pig population around Meduli in check.

Meduli has no good wood.  Someone could make a killing importing decent wood for bows to Meduli.

    nice thread;

u all know MO is not very solo friendly, being one myself got me to think to run/participate in a freeman´s city xD; owned and ruled by individual and free players. Have being long time wandering arround this idea and hope i can finally see it come, stay tuned.

SV is trying to give u this type of liberty in his game, never saw something alike.

I wouldn't call it solo unfriendly though.

I'm a solo player myself and really don't have any problems.  As a solo player you just have to be a little more realistic about your goals.  I know what a house takes to build, I actually built one during beta (not the superfast, cost nothing to build  late beta houses either), it took me most of 4 or 5 days.   It was still easier then it would be now, at the time you actually mined metals; so it was much easier, but still one hell of an undertaking for a single person.  I'm realistic today that I probably won't own a house, unless I really dedicate myself to the task of saving every coin to purchase one.

On the other hand there are a lot of things you can do that don't require you to group or join a guild.  Being a trader or merchant, a butcher (when it gets put in) a bandit, a carpenter, a tamer, and many other things.

MO is much friendlier to the solo player then I think a lot of people would expect.  The non-social player on the other hand, they're going to have a hell of a time getting along in this game.  You can be solo, but you have to social.  MO demands interaction.  If you want to be a craftsman in MO as a solo player you're going to have to interact with people.

If you're going to play solo,  just be realistic about what goals you set.  You're never going to kill, or tame a dragon, but you can still do quite a lot.

I would say MO is considerably more solo friendly then Darkfall, and no less solo friendly then UO.

my point of view is pretty much wht u explained in your post, i plan to play without guild in MO but deffinetly enjoy socializing with all kind of people, as u said, you are pretty much forced to find people to trust (transfre items betwen characters and so. ,., ), then i would be more precise if i would say its unfriendly to unsocial gamers.

Thou as u said too, housing might be a little off limits to a lonewolf (imagine after all efforts that your house is reduced to dust by jerks) that is why i thought about a city that could protect and rejoin some of this kind of players; hope i find the time to put these thoughts on practice.

I have made one melee char and one pure crafter. The third slot, I have not desided yet.

Does anyone have any info or a link where I could learn about how the housing system is suppose to be?  For instance, is there any real time building involved where the building process can be interupted by others?  Can your home be burnt to the ground for no reason?  Can a guild make a city where you can place housing inside the walls?

I had 3 major characters in UO..  One was a mage/tamer, the other was a warrior that weilded 2 handed hammers, and the last was a blacksmith/carpenter/tailor.  I'll probably have to look at the skills and figure out what I'd like to do.. but my ideal class is a cleric with moderate fighting skills.  Not a typical paladin.. but a holy warrior that doesn't use shields, has access to buffing spells and healing spells.. generally very peaceful.  Probably will want to be involved in an anit-pk guild to protect the innocent and hunt the villainous.

     All of that, yes.

Do you know how long it takes to burn someones house down?  Is it something that takes several hours to do so.. or can it be razed in a matter of minutes?  Can people enter without keys?  Can you place furniture?

Hey, check this link out:  http://www.mortalwiki.org/wiki/Housing   I'm not sure how up-to-date it is, but it seemed right when I read through it.

About destroying them:   Last I knew they were destroyable by conventional weapons, but it took HOURS and HOURS of many people whacking at it (once it's built anyway... the construction site itself is pretty weak).   I believe SV is planning to make it so normal weapons DON'T do damage to houses, but only once they implement siege equipment.

I don't know much about how keeps (with walls) work, but I'm not sure if you can place normal houses in there, or you upgrade the keep to add buildings, or what.    A city could also just be a collection of houses in the same area (a lot of the house spots are placed in a way that seems like they were meant to form villages).

Edit:  I don't think there's a way to enter a house without a key (SV is talking about lockpicking, but who knows when/if that'll be).  I think decorating is planned but I'm pretty sure it's not in yet.

Thanks bud.  That would be really nice though.  Being able to place some houses inside the protected walls of a guild keep would certainly help some of the less fortunate players to get a piece of property somewhere.

Very good !! I can see some dedicated player that planned on doing something in MO !!

We might as well get along and start a community here !! =)

I still yet creating a character hahaha !!! Anyway which city i should start with?

I suppose it could work if it takes a long time to destroy one, even with a lot of people trying to take the house down.  Like the village idea, maybet the devs could go in after the village is mostly finished and add objects like paths.. signs.. some other random fluff to make it seem more like a small community rather than some randomly placed homes.

I don't really like lockpicking.. I think it's quite enough that people can destroy it, since people have to sleep.. anyone can go into your home with enough skill in the middle of the night.  I guess if they can have access to anything not locked down inside your home.. maybe you'll have a certain number of lock down slots and chest slots depending on the size of your home.. and if you decide to go past that limit, it can be stolen?  That would be okay.

The whole theivery thing is really going to have to be planned out right.

Fabernum has some brownwood trees right outside of town (look for the rings of loggers) that you can sell to vendors, that might be a good bet.  I'm not much of a logger though, someone might have better tips for ya.

If you don't wanna roll another character, you could always travel from meduli to there...

when in meduli, look toward the ocean.  Turn right and head straight out of town, past the plains, past the colorful jungle, til you hit a river  (The lake the river connects to is called "sausage lake", and is the  near-center of the continent).  Turn left, follow that river / road until you see town.  (Kranesh, the lawless town, is also around those parts so be careful... fab is one of the most populated cities, and a favorite hunting ground for some of the more infamous PKs)

    Good luck   image

EDIT:  Keep in mind the best trees are likely to be out of town,  so you'll probably be passing by trees better than the low-yield trees that people surround in all the starter towns. In terms of grinding, you'll wanna find trees that vendors will buy (they won't buy most woods).  This includes (for sure) brownwood and blackwood (same price, but blackwood seems to be rarer), and I THINK also ironwood and spongewood.  If you decide to take a detour, make sure you remember where you were headed, it's easy to get disoriented (I've gotten lost way too often)

Superb, thx for info.  However the only info that I heard from people to make some coins are to sell wood.

Then may I ask how do you make coins ?? Any tips ??? By hunting animals?  or killing others to loot them ?

hmm, I've heard that too so there might be something to it, but it's definately not the only way.  I think it's good for grinding attributes too, so that could play a part..

Anyway, I've made most my money by killing mobs and selling the loot, and a little bit by crafting armor.

tips:  If you're in no immediate need for coin, consider holding off on selling whatever you loot.  If your lucky you can find someone who's willing to buy those mats for much more than the vendor offers (I typically pay 50-100% more, for example... your mileage may vary).  It might involve some /yell WTS spam, but it could pay off.

I'm kinda curious if PK'ing is worth the time money-wise... most the people I've killed have had very little / nothing on em, but that's probably because I  made sure I didn't attack anyone who had armor or weapons :p

I heard that mining / extraction is really good income too, but I have no idea how any of that works, or if it's still profitable.

    I recommend Fabernum or Vadda.

Melee that uses axes or maces and shield when necessary.

Weaponcrafter that makes axes, maces, spears and polearms out of metal, wood and stone.

And when it is released a thief
