F2P with a nice community

Hey rpg fanatics!

I recently have quit WoW because of ... "oh well you all know it"

So I am now looking for a f2p rpg with a nice community! I like fantasy games, but I now hope to find a really nice community in my next rpg so I am open for other types then fantasy. There's a few games where I enjoyed the community at least somewhat:

Entropia Universe: only thing was people scamming each other with trading sometimes.

A tale in the desert: very helpful people, but not much teamplay I found.

If anyone is playing any f2p and is in a really nice clan/team/guild/etc. feel free to send me a message!

So any ideas?

Runes of Magic's community seems pretty okay.  The population is decent size too as the games still pretty new.

If you like WoW, then yeah i 2nd the suggestion for RoM. Its very WoWish, though it has a dual class system which in that aspect makes it better than WoW, and the upgrading system is nice too allowing you to make some nice customized stats on equipment. From my own experience in RoM the community has always been pretty good. You may run into a few asshats, but the general attitude is pretty good and there are plenty of people willing to help out lower level players.

Well I'll suggest Wurm for it's community, but it's only F2P on the trial server. The paid game is 5e a month.

For strictly F2P, Atlantica. You won't likely win in PvP without some CS items, but they can be bought in-game (but xpensive). The community is really, really good though, and I'll tell you why - the features. Every single one of them pushes players in the direction of being more social in order to achieve, it's genius.

    • You get xp for your lowest level team member (merc) whenever another player wins a battle somewhere else. Anywhere else. Long distance-parties, and people want to do it.

    • There is 'monster data' you can get if you kill something enough times, and each rank lets you get more items, better dmg, etc. This can be traded to other players back and forth if they are on your friends list (or in your party afaik), but probably 2-3 times every 5 minutes. It depends on a refilling stamina/mind bar. This gets players to group up and trade this info back and forth whenever they can.

    • Guilds can own a city in the namesake of real ones across the world. When I was playing, ours was some place in China, and it was pretty cool. You can do missions to work on the town's needs and invite wandering NPCs with jobs to move there to support the population, people can also jack your caravans that you sent home, and vica versa. The best part though is that these towns can be decorated with crafted set pieces like houses and trees, etc. You can't even get close to them, but it does add some flair to it all. Only a few people get to experience placement though.

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture

  • Thanks for the backup guys I'll try it out. Got any alliance/guild/crew ready that can throw me an invite? =)

Aeria has some really fun and interesting f2p games. They just released a Three Kingdoms themed mmo called Kingdom Heroes. One of the features that I really enjoy is a soldier system. You can summon up to 6 different soldiers to fight for you. They also have two weekly wars between the kingdoms. It's a free mmorpg so it's worth a try. They also have other games on there that are fun and free. Seeing as this game was just released the community is just starting out but from the time I've played they're good people. Obviuosly there is the site community. They're nice people when you get to know them, haha.

The Florensia community is very cool. Active chat channels and some very personable players.

It's funny about the community aspect of a game. Each time I start a new one I tell myself I wont get sucked into guilds, or what not because I know what wil end up happening. I'll start talking more than actually playing. I always thought the community on wow was very friendly. You must have hit some bad luck, Powermike.

    Anywho, is Florensia anygood?

I know it's been splattered on RSS feeds and MMO websites for days, but you really should look into LotRO (Newly F2P). It has an awesome community with tons of helpful players. Not only that but it's IP is the mother of fantasy. I'd at least give it a try, I don't think it'll disappoint. Tons of nice, welcoming, and even chatty guilds :)

    Good luck,

Kingdom Heroes -- where the heck do I download it?

Free mmorpg or no, if I can't download the sucker, how am I going to play it? I went to Aeria's downloader page at http://kingdomheroes.aeriagames.com but it didn't like my pc or vice versa. If anyone can direct me to a better download mirror that'd be great.

I've read other forums about it and I really like what I see.  Can't wait to command my own troops and go head to head with other on battleships (you don't have to buy them, do you?)

My apartment booms every night when I plug into my favorite mmos, but Kingdom Heroes may get me evicted!

I think the community in Fantasy Earth Zero is swell. Just recently started playing and people are courteous enough to guide me.

aye, Florensia is pretty cool, i mean the community

i played it at one point where i'm real bored of WoW, well Florensia is a typical Grinding as well and can get you bored to death with the grinding

but with the community, i was actually having a pretty good time with it

unfortunately, the population is what is lacking, im living on a GMT+9 Area

so whenever i login at morning or noon, there are usually empty as most of it are US players

    So What Now?

LotRO isn't f2p yet, still got a couple months. I'd say the best commuity in a f2p would be DDO right now.

I found a very helpful community in Grand Fantasia as well, but that's only if you are into manga-style kawaii stuff :P
