A MMORPG is different from a normal multiplayer game. A MMORPG releases new content every month, where does that come from? A MMORPG releases new servers if the servers are full, where does that money come from? A MMORPG has servers that are up near 24/7, where does the money come from?
You need to realise that it takes tons of money to keep the servers up, they also need one hell of a connection and tons of bandwidth.
The retail sales alone isn't enough money for the MMORPG to be up past 1-2 years.

Yes I agree Iceman12321 take it easy! Many of us are going to wait for Guild Wars. Yeah I am a noobie around here but most of us "F2p'ers" have the money but don't want to waste it on a subscription each and every month. Some of these MMORPG's cost heaps and there is no way I am paying for them. But Guild Wars shall ROCK!!!
I think a good suggestion to you would be Neverwinter Nights.
You have to buy the box (I recommended buying the 2 expansions as well, I think they all come in one pack now for the same price as the original game). But then there are no monthly fees. There are plenty of well established permanent worlds to join. Theres also a lot of single player and multiplayer quests to download.
