Bioware reveled the second full-length cinematic trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic at the EA Press Conference at this year's E3.
"Hope" serves as a prequel of sorts to the "Deceived" trailer shown at last year's E3. The etrailer focuses on the Battle of Alderaan, one of the most horrific battles in the Republic's history. Darth Malgus, who had just recently been promoted, has launched a surprise attack (the first of many, judging by the Deceived trailer) against the forces of the Republic on Alderaan while the Republic fleet is lured light years away in a feint attack staged elsewhere. Not all is lost, however, as Havoc Squad, an elite unit of Republic Troopers launches a last ditch attack against Malgus' forces, which ultimately results in a battle between Havoc, a lone Jedi Consular and Malgus himself.

Too bad 250 mil $ does not bring us anywhere close to this. Just an other cartoon point-and-click game. Don't get me wrong, I'll still buy it. The spaceship announcement got me quite hooked on SW:tor again... But I have a bad feeling about this.
Playing: ARMA 2
Waiting for: Darkfall: UW
Played: Ultima Online, Age of Conan, Anarchy Online, Planetside, Dark age of Camelot, EQII, WoW, SWG, FFXI and a lot more
Once more a very good action trailer. Sure, it's not the game, but it has to be taken on its own merit. Like a hugely expensive very short movie. Myself, I'd rather have some solid cinematic trailers than mediocre in-game ones. We'll see gameplay one way or another anyway.
Space ships or mobile home?
I heard nothing about space combat, just that you will be forced to use the specific class ship and you will be able to customize it's... interior?
Is it too soon to say no pew pew for you?
I hope there will be some pew pew, otherwise I'll be sad in the eye

I think it is more like the original KOTOR ship travel. You can run around on the ship and hit a destination on the map. It will be a house with storage to travel from planet to planet with a cut scene for take off and landing. I will still play this game, but not because of a ship for player housing.
As far as the tailer. They should just make some KOTOR movies to make some extra cash. These are awsome trailers. Give me a feature length movie before launch. A new way to advertise?
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?

i hope its alot like kotor games i enjoyed them to the fullest. i thought the trailer was awesome
Games I will be playing are: TES V, SWTOR, ME 3, TSW
Well, no doubt at all that the trailer is amazing, much like the first. What I really like about it is it captures my imagination for PvP. I don't really know why but SWTOR is where I am determined to give PvP a go for the first time in an MMO.
This is becoming an epic battle between GW2 and SWTOR for the game I am most looking forward to.
I'd really like to know the payment model for SWTOR, especially given the current concerns about RMT and mixing shopping and playing, even if you choose to subscribe to a game.
Ah, I was hoping to see a smuggler in action. However, my pants were slightly damp after watching this.
Make it so...
lol just good to know i wasn't the only one
Amazing trailer/cinematic. Bring on the rest of the E3 releases.
Liked that Consular's Hadouken there.
The more I see, the more I like.
What'll be entertaining is 9 days from now all of the doubters and their new 'it's going to be missing, uh uh.. slavery!'
I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.
It bought a tear to my eye......(sniff)
BLUR!!!!
They have to make the KotOR Movie! I won't watch anything else unless it's made by BLUR for the rest of my life...

While there are some people who just want to doubt this game I think a lot of people you are insulting in this post really just want people to calm down and stop misrepresenting this game. Right now we have very little information on the game and there are people out there saying that it will be the best thing ever. A lot of us want to see the information on how the game will play. This sort of release, a cinematic trailer, is not that information. You say that you like this game more and more, but what did this cinematic trailer tell you about the game? Not much.
What those "doubters" are tired of is people saying that a cinematic makes this game great. The reason people are critical of the game is because when players sit there and say a developer is doing fine we get games like STO. So many people there sat around saying, "Don't worry. Cryptic knows what they're doing. It's Star Trek. It will be great." The same thing is going on in the SW:TOR forums and has been since I joined the day it began.
So truthfully, I would rather see the critics continue for 9 days and 200 more after that. I would rather have people being critical of the game so that we know our concerns are heard than people sitting there and telling everyone to trust Bioware. The people who are critical and questioning are the ones who will push for the content that a lot of people are hoping for.
as far as the announcement of starships go I am totally ok with it just being an interior that you can customize for now. While I would love for there to be space combat in the game I just dont think its gonna happen at launch. they have 13 planets announced so far for the game and my guess is the game will focus on land first with a loading screen for interplanet travel. if this is the case having only an interior to your ship is a great way to leave it for an eventuall space combat xpac. after all if your gonna do ship combat on top of complex ground combat you might as well make sure it is just as complex. anyways, we will see but I highly doubt space combat will happen at launch
Yes, but a dev has already said how big a mistake it was in SWG to add space combat at a later date.
This likely means space combat will be in at lauch or not at all.
i still prefer last years E3 trailer.

I mostly agree with you. Interestingly, though, the cinematic did draw me into this story aspect that TOR will have just a bit. Namely, the Sith character that features in both cinematics begins to have a history. His name is Darth Malgus. In the recent cinematic he has no mask whereas in the Deceived trailer he did. Is this the battle that gave him the mask?
So I begin to ask questions about him. How did he reach this point? And what about the Jedi Consular, apparently called Satelle, who can stop a light sabre with her bare hand. Will she feature in the story, especially if I play as a Jedi Consular?
This is definitely the first time that a trailer from an MMO has me asking those sort of questions. Perhaps it really is an MMO that has enough story in it for me to be thinking about more than killing ten rats and gaining a level?
If the first quest is nothing less than killing rats with a light sabre in my starship cargo hold - then its just not worth playing nor is it a real rpg.
P.S if not jedi then quest must be shoot boars with blaster on tatooine.
No doubt that it was a great cinematic and has me more excited for information and the game in general. I truely am looking forward to playing this game and I am hoping very hard for the best. I have thought that Bioware adding story to an MMO would be great and still feel really hopeful for it. I agree that this trailer made me really interested in the war that is not quite on right now and, to me, highlighted the soldier class.
Is it only me who think that the trailer felt alot more like Warcraft than Starwars?
Hell, the voice over sound like a WoW orc and then he yell: FOR THE HOR... eh REPUBLIC!!!
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
how on earth does this remind you of warcraft?
The first trailer was a allot better i think. Still a nice watch there...
