Your emaking the same mistake that many others make and assuming that just because we like PvP, it means that's the only thing we like. You dont have to only like PvE, or only like PvP, and if they made a game like this PvE only, it would flop faster than STO.

I'm naming my ship Tornado. What? Was anyone really surprised?

Well that's certainly a nice touch. Not sure if it was the big thing everyone is waiting to hear, but a nice little tid-bit nonetheless. Still, I was hoping for something with a little more substance for this announcement that had a countdown and everything.

No it wouldn't .... but PvP is obviously in as they have discussed it here and before. This MMO landmass / spacemass in this game is going to be phenomenal as detailed by people who have playtested, that will keep lots of people interested for ages . Throw in a vast ammount of single player storyline on top of this and they can only win win win.

Looks like you house will potentially be a spacecraft of your choosing.... interesting. PvE with conflict areas so to some extent it is not clear if there will be 100% open areas for PvP or just controlled.

They all looked like multiperson ships and if everyone gets one it seems less and less likely they can be used in space combat. Which is a real shame when i first saw this I was really hopeful.

I agree.  I'm not a hater, I'm just a realist.  Look at how ships where used in the KOTOR games.  In those games, your ship was your "base of operations" and it had pre-written flight paths and the only time you saw the outside of the ship was in "cut scenes". There was no free-form flight like in JTL or the old Tie Fighter games.  To me the images in the presentation looked more like small fighters (like the one Obi-wan used) than multiperson ships.  Which means no walking around in them during flight.  You land, use your ships computer and access its "inventory".  Kind of like a pack mule.  And if larger "multi-person" ships follow the KOTOR design, then they may be nothing more than a storage area which can be used to "portal" from one area to another.

Some players may want to be immersed in the whole space side of Star Wars, as well as the landbased part.  If the ships are nothing more than an interactive "portal" between zones that doesn't permit realtime space flight then that may upset a few people who were expecting more from this announcement.

Therefore, I'll wait for confirmation about the ships potential rather than jumping to conclusions based on very little evidence.  I've come to learn that about MMO devs; you take what they say literally.  Don't assume anything other than what you've been told.

Yes, would be good.  But its highly unlikely.  No MMO to this date has millions of planets to choose from and explore.  Eve has systems yes, but when you look at them closely, the planets are just different coloured renderings of a small number of images.  You can't land on them.

When it comes to MMO's, I find its best to stick with what you DO know, rather than speculating about what could be.

I wonder if it would be possible to enter someone's ship as well. Or have some kind of area where your Guild/Legion has their base of operation.

  • AmorienAmorien Member Posts: 142

idk i bet with the sum odd million or was it billion dollars , there might be space combat. i mean if i can customize my ship with over 1000 ideas. then i hope others can see it.

    If... if... if...

Unfortunately there has not been any indication whatsoever that there will be a player-planet generation facility at all. It's unlikely that a control freak company like EA or a company so crazy to keep hold of its IP like LA would ever allow it, sad to say.

Is this poster for real, just look at the stickies in this forumn for starters, I guess your excuse will be you can't read ? Then goto the official site ? And then start with the hundreds of fansites.

SWG was just a shitty little sandbox , this is a real game.

Read about what?  We know little about this product...and that was my point. After five years of development we're dealing with less facts then speculations.

Nobody said that SWG was perfect.

How do you know that this game is REAL game??? If you have some info about it, care to share with community, please.

SWG had its own problems. But it was still WAY ahead from these glorified single player games with some multiplayer options that add absolutely nothing new (i'm not talking just about SWTOR here, but almost all AAA MMOs in the last 5 years).

SWG - prNGE was not a s$%# little sandbox...and we're just as much in the dark about this game as we ever were.  As far as we know the ships are stagnate - no space flight mechanics - just ships sitting on landing pads or whatever and all we will see in game  is cutscenss of them landing and taking off like we did in KoToR.

Go read all of the attached:

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/208576/SWTOR-Information-Walkthroughs-Guides-and-the-like.html

They have shown lots already the cinematics are more than likely finished and part of the core storyline they dont want to release them all before the game releases!!!! surely.

To be honest healthy speculation is fine as I will play the game they deliver regardless. People demanding features or else they will not play is another matter. Most people here are just haters so trying to have a decent conversation here is pointless there are better places to do that and i do.

Creation of randomized planets to travel to would not be that hard morst of the collateral exists. We now have a mobile hoem in the form of a spaceship. So they may add some additional types of discovery or variety, these elements will have been considered ad may not be as difficult to achieve.

But you stick to what you know and ignore this because i'm enjoying speculating a little.

There is a video out there showing the inside of the two ships. It looks big and you can see NPCs (probably companions) walking around. Youtube + search is your friend.

Those ships actually look great (insides and all).

More than I expected, though I wish Bioware would give us more info on game mechanics and less hype.

    Yeah, just found this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUhROwBsHWY

I like the Imperial Fury class.  Bigger than expected, however they are reminiscent of the KOTOR ship i.e. can walk around in it but no free form flight.  This makes me think of them as static caravans.  XD

    Good find.

They also show the companions for what looks like the Jedi Knight and the Sith Marauder.

Since it seems certain now that these ships will fulfill the function they did in KOTOR, I think we can kiss space flight. combat and exploration goodbye.
