I played a trial of Aion when it was released, but it was only for a couple of days then i got busy in RL. Since then i've played many other games like Last Chaos, Perfect World. Then i saw a video of of Aion on youtube and i was like wow.
Just wanted to know from players themselvs - If you could just bullet point the Great parts of Aion that you think would be appealing, what would they be.
[Also depending on how the points turn out i may be looking for a buddy invite]

Yea I like alot of stuff in Aion!
Keep in mind though that the stuff I don't like are at least as numerous! It's the game I currently play so I always have a lot to say about it.
Electric pretty much nailed it, Aion is a gorgeous game and has many good points but its not easymode like WOW so if you expect that dont bother with Aion.
my question on Aion is, how bad, for the non pvp diehard, is the ganking via rifts while leveling up?
some context to the question: I like organized pvp and pvp specific zones like the Abyss, not gangbang the lowbies style gank squads so I avoided Aion post beta due to the rifts but there's nothing out there really atm (hell, I'm re-trying L2 atm).
About half my gaming time I play mmos with my wife (helluvalot cheaper than a night out and a babysitter for 3 kids) who hates pvp.....so 24/7 gank squads would kinda kill that quickly (outside of the Abyss of course. she accepts that quests can and do take players into open pvp zones, she just hates uberleet wowkids with a hate on for their grandmas out trying to prove themselves by ganking ppl trying to pve cuz they can :P /shrug)
What makes Aion special is the ease of hacking. How many people, often without even being subbed to the game at the time, are easily hacked, and then have to go through terrible customer service in order to get their accounts back.
And way more spam emails than other games coming to me, which usually would stop in other games after I'm not longer playing the game, like:

I'm not gonna lie though, I think they have taken many steps to reduce goldfarming, like no area chat until level 5-10 somewhere. Makes the game seem dead until then, but whatever works.
Aside from that, the game is beautiful, but boring - at least in the early levels. I can never push myself to level passed 15 - which may be the problem with sticking with it - there's nothing special about the game aside from the setting until higher levels. I really wish they would've made the earlier game a bit more fun, and maybe had some PvP areas open to lower levels, rather than starting at 20-25 or whatever.
I did kinda like the storyline quest series where a quest opens up after you complete the previous one, and there's little cutscenes explaining them and stuff. Fancy.
Also the getting xp from gathering, and crafting (I believe).
I love the music and theme of the game it reminds me of good old fantasy rpgs xP
and......flying is fun.
Electriceye described my feelings pretty well (including the disclaimer).
But I also appreciate the fact that I have not experienced a single client crash! (4-5 disconnect but never a crash and when I had a dc I was able to log right back in where I was, even in instanced group content.)
I also like the music and the random quests that drop from monsters or are recieved at random when you do crafting workorders are a nice bonus.
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!!
(repeat ad infinitum)
Of cause graphics: textures, shaders, detailed 3D models, artistic content and concept, etc.
Character customization is really good.
Numerous armor, clothes, accessories, weapons, PC has many items’ slots. Note that accessories are often visible in the game.
Huge interesting game world with more or less standard transportation system (scrolls, teleporters, flying carriers). Unfortunately, there are no mounts.
Enormous bestiary.
UI, WASD controls are convenient but without extra novel features.
Animations, AI, and collision detection (or its absence for PC and NPCs) are quiet typical for many MMO games, there is nothing special, in the other words these features are significantly simplified compared with offline games.
IMHO Aion is the best MMO of this genre available on the NA market at the moment. But being strongly PvP orientated it is not for every player.
You guys sure do mix up hard with tedious a lot.
Absolutely nothing about Aion is hard... tedious sure though.
(Mod Edit)
I don't think anyone in this thread said the game was "hard". Read again.
If you do want to go all precise and literal though, then I think you're the one mixing hard with skill-dependant. Three of the numerous definitions of "hard" are:
Requiring great effort or endurance: check
Difficult to bear or endure: check
Harsh or severe in effect or intention: check
This is of course all based on the player. He only got himself to blame when he complains about things being "tedious". It's what he makes of it.
Personally I've been playing since before launch and never once has "tedious" crossed my mind (well maybe a few times while crafting), but when I'm not enjoying it, I take a break, I stop. Either log off, go out, play something else, diversify my game play in Aion etc. Lots of possibilities. It's not the game but the way the player plays the game.
Players create their own hell imo.
I like that someone who says they botted to 44 which means hasnt played most of the game and since you didnt get 50 havent touched anything end game can say that nothing in the game is hard. You sir are amazing
Aion is a shiny lovley game
char making is great
the way ur char moves and fight amazing
lvling not hard
crafting hummm defrent
that's me thinking when Aion did lunch then i hit 25 and ther i hit the wall XD
fighting boring it's like doing evrey thing over and over
lvling became sooooooooo Grindy
Dungones just boring i mean FT ( Fire temple ) is like a cave with fire mobs in it >.>....... did it 100+ no single good loot for my class
Crafting became a total pain and it's just a new way for u to grind evan more
Lack of end game thing to do only gank get ganked get keep lose keep
a Mage can hit u for 5k in one hit when all ur HP is 3k
well that's all i saw in 3 months of Aion b4 1.9 ofc things may have changed but u will see my post asking what really changed ??? ppl say Nothing really
any way wich u best of luck that's all IMO other ofc like the game it's a matter of Teast good luck
sorry for my bad English hehe
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I think Aion is indeed one of the most challenge group-content i've ever tried. I have played so many games in my time and still example camps like mist mau village on lvl 37'ish when you get first quests there have been most enjoyable and even hardest and teamwork-based experiences going thru. And soulsickness, making dying or not dying some actual matter gamewise, gives very challenge gameplay.
Im not rush-hardcore and been playing on and off (while doing with many other games trying to find that old hook again) and of course time to time i feel grind is massive and progress really slow when reaching close to lvl 50 but anyway i feel there's no better game going on for me right now.
Aion is "kill 20 of this monster" and "collect 10 of this item with 20% chance to drop" from level 10 to 50. Just change the name of the creatures to kill and the items to collect.
Korean game afterall. Played 6 months hoping there'd be a greater motive behind it all, a greater scheme. But genuinely disappointed by the repetitive solo quests and condemned to enjoy the generally unsociable playerbase when wanting to do anything that was half rewarding in dungeons or group quest areas, finally got myself to cancell the account a few months ago.
Some people enjoy that kind of gameplay lured by the eyecandy that Aion is (have to admit, visually Aion is extremelly gorgeous). It caught my eye that some of the things that posters in this thread like about Aion are "idle character animations" heh.
Seriously now, if you're not the kind of person that plays a mmo to watch the "idle character animations" and prefer to actually move your character around and have fun instead of a second job, stay away from Aion. 1.9 or not.
Remember, YOU consider it a second job. Everyone else that plays or has played might consider it something else.
Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!
