I have yet to see a Blizzard product released that was not quality at launch. WoW suffered from minimal bugs, but a lot of lag. What do you expect when millions log in at one time. No one is prepared for that, but with in a month or two they had that worked out. Most games release in a state that would get them sued if they were providing a contracted product to a company.
Ever played Diablo II?
That game was horrendously bugged in every conceivable compass direction when it was released in 2000. To Blizzard's credit, they patched it like madmen early on and it was eventually fine. But that game was a shining example of shipping when the product wasn't ready.
To be fair, Diablo 1 and 2 were not done by Blizzard.
They were developed by Blizzard North. It is a completely different studio. They were bought out and had a name change. Blizzard North is no more, for obvious reasons. So it is not accurate to say Diablo 1 or 2 or its expansions (even the one developed by an outside company) is actually from the Blizzard everyone is talking about in this thread.
On a side note, this is where a lot of the Blizzard North people left to:
Blizzard North developers left in tandem to form other independent game developing studios. Curt Feldam from GameSpot writes, "ArenaNet, formed in March of 2000 by Mike O'Brien, Patrick Wyatt, and Jeff Strain (and since acquired by NCsoft); Flagship Studios, founded in 2003 by Brevik, the Schaefer brothers, and Bill Roper (among others); and Castaway Entertainment, also founded in 2003 by brothers Stefan and Mike Scandizzo".
The core of Flagship Studios' Seattle team reformed into Runic Games, and made Torchlight, the game seen as one of the worthiest Diablo successors around. Runic Games is now busy with working on a Torchlight MMORPG.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Love them or hate them so far Blizzard's business model works, and love or hate WoW millions still play it and haven't bailed into other games yet. Given the competition they have had and that WoW graphics wise is becoming dated, the fact is they are still on top and worthy of some respect. They must be doing something right.
Well it's because the game itself is like a very addictive drug!
But, the way things are going, Cataclysm is looknig to be a very bland and lackluster expansion.
.
You got to understand, when WoW launched it destroyed Ceridith's game.
.
Actually SoE did a good enough job of that on their own.
Besides I've been palying WoW since release anyways, and I used to really enjoy it in vanilla when it was actually somewhat challenging. Over the years as they've dumbed down the game mechanics and made everything easier to come by, I've enjoyed it less and less.
Cataclysm is nothing to be excited about. There's nothing of actual new substance that isn't just a rehash of the same old grindy treadmill Blizzard has been churning out for the past 5 years, only nowadays there's even less to enjoy about achieving goals in the game because you can almost trip into them.

Despite how good some of the game mechanics SWG had, it still suffered from issues. Combat balance, lack of content, duping exploitations, not to mention the combat exploits as well. At the time of WoW's release, WoW was generally an overall more enjoyable game for the time, especially to those who were getting tired of SWG's outstanding issues. I don't blame WoW for NGE, because it's Sony's fault for making the wrong decisions on how to fix their game.
But, that was the original WoW. Today's WoW is vastly different. It's a lobotomized version of it's former self. Somehow even with everything they've added, the game feels like it has so much less substance than it did before. I do blame WoW for the Industry's lack of innovation lately, though.
Except of course the WoW release was a disaster. Worse than even the release of Vanguard. .
Yes and that is why Vanguard has 8 million + subs......oh wait.
Also on another topic, How exactly is potT getting scrapped have anything to do with pvp balance? PotT was for glyphs and vanity items, so yea your wrong mr 100% sure. Just a bunch of whiners and haters on these forums that have baseless arguments and think they know why 100% a company does something even though they have no clue. Also to the person who said "Blizz has always been about making money" ummm that is the point of running a buisness sooo yea good job.
one of the benefits of being Blizzard is we don't have to ship a product until we think it's ready. Our marketing department works with us on the game, but they understand that when the game is ready is ultimately up to the team. We didn't cut it because we ran out of time. We cut it because we didn't think the design we had was fun.
I wish more companies would follow this line of thinking. Maybe while fewer games coming out they would be better quality.
.
OP, you should know better than post a positive topic about WoW on these forums.
.
WoW destroyed the games they loved, literally. WoW trashed EQ1, caused teh dreaded Catacombs expansion in DAoC and caused the NGE expansion in SWG an expansion that ruined that game.
.
To many on these forums, WoW is the Great Destroyer.
I don't see how other companies trying to copy things in wow can be caused by wow. I know Blizz copied for EQ but Sony was to blame for everything put into EQ1. Same with NGE in SWG. Blizz didn't make the game so how can they be blamed for NGE? That's about as dumb as blaming Vince Mcmahon for a stupid kid getting hurt because he copied something he saw on wrestling. It's all about personal responsibility. They made the call, not Blizz.
Like or not, WoW / Blizzard has micro changed the game in many ways, but I think that the people who produce World of Warcraft actually play it. I wonder if Shmedly for SOE or CBS suits or Lucas played SWG NGE or STO that they would have seen the changes and destruction of the name.
You want to destroy a name in the gaming world give it to SOE or Cryptic... its not so much that they are trying to spread the game in some sort of quest to expand market shares for more money its all about that they are trying to expand and get more customers from different markets lol its always about money.
Big companies don't care about games or players or how things function or that the game wear's pink or red its about money. SWG NGE was about money and making more money but these guys when they think about money they are thinking with the little head and not the big one or the other way around for some...
SOE and now Cryptic have shown that they are only about money more so than other companies producing games Blizzard at least tries to make it fun even though World of Warcraft for the most part now is an mspopc game.
Now since SOE is gun shy about SWG if they actually wantrd to make loads of money off of SWG they would open up 4 to 6 servers to precu combat system -- they would make alot more money than they do now cuz SWG is a dead fish come the release of TOR and everyone knows it! As for the rest of you out there its money money money after that no body in big companies really care what you think unless you are giving, sharing or making them money. The second you stop making money you are gone!

I do agree that blizzard does have a high quality launch versus most mmos that are released. I do respect them at that level. I really hope I can say that for mine as well. I think one major reason why they can ship when ever they are ready is simply becuase of the massive amount of revenue they have. At least they are not like SOE, where a new expansion for Everquest is released every 6 months. That is out right ridiculous!

The problem is that Blizzard has a lisence to print money more so then any other gaming company (especiall since becoming Activision Blizzard). They can afford to hold games as long as they want whereas smaller companies are running low on development funds and cannot afford to keep delaying a game until it is worthy of the AAA rating a launch.
People need to become more accepting of the fact that MMOs suck at launch and give them more of a chance to survive.

No because fun is a point of view. Just because the devs of bliz games think its fun doesnt mean a dev of bethesa thinks the same. Its more of quality you will see from certain companies like blizzard, bethesa, bioware just to name a few that people know yeah the game might have a few bugs at launch but these are games we can trust to not try and rip us off from nice looking trailers. Its when you start trying to buy games from these no name devs is where gamers run into problems. They want to make a quick buck, and im not saying all of them do this of course but the games of low quailty are usually developed by some no name company and published by someone u think u can trust.
What has Blizzard announced at this years E3 ? NM, I forgot they are too damn arrogant to represent with the rest of the community. They are just to good for everyone else so they have their own thang called Blizzcon, what a joke.

QFT Blizzard is the crooks of the Quality gaming Genre. They're greedy and they not only tell every gamer that they are with a big slap in the face. No blizzard game drops in price unless its at least 3 years old. Why is WoTLK still 40bucks??? Why??? Can someone tell me. Its sad truly, i wish people would see the light. Boycott of blizzard games needs to truely happen but im just a dreamer.

This is standard for all reputable business's that have good products. Not just the videogame world. I can name a handful of developers that have the exact same technique as Blizzard hence the reputation that follows. I also know of many developers that don't use the highroad and release features half cocked and thier names are tarnished. Comon sense really.
"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"
Ten years ago Blizzard had the midas touch now since alot of high quality developers left them they turned human. The thing is that the mjority of the gaming genre still hasn't a clue so that still keeps Blizzard ontop of mostly everyone else. Bioware and ArenaNet are the only ones that even come close to being better or as equal as Blizzard was 10 years ago.

There is no degrees of good or bad. Something is either good or bad, middle of the road is the lazy way. Also just because one individual thinks something is good doesn't mean they have good taste. Just means they have bad taste, and it probably follows them through life from Games, to fashion, to food, and so on... Sure they are happy and satisfied but at the end of the day they still have shitty taste.

Hmmm...devil's advocate here, but I seem to recall Mythic saying they removed classes from War pre-launch because they "weren't fun", and no-one, and I mean no-one gave them a pass on it. Justifiably so.
Why is it ok when Blizzard do something similar? A lot of players were really looking forward to the Path of the Titans - it's been something Blizz have promised for a long time, and now it's off the table? And this is ok?
I'm neither pro or anti Blizzard, I'm just wondering why something that would cause ructions (ah, google it, I'm Irish and the word fits) with regard to any other game gets a thread praising it when it's Blizzard doing it.

Because Blizz is KNOWN to have done that .. even scrapping WHOLE game if it does not meet their standards.
So based on reputation, and past deeds, I believe Blizzard, and not necessary any other companies.
Lol at people saying WoW was polished at launch. It was a buggy mess and it took a week or so to actually log on to the servers because Blizzard fails with hardware.

umm isnt that what i said? minus your Opinion at the end. Just cuz you think its shitty doesnt mean someone else does. I think Hello Kitty Online is Shit but a 6 year old will think there is no better game. So its what you want. Its when the Devs lie to the players and say there game does something and it doesnt is where companies get into doo doo.

EA has done this too, yet they don't share the same popularity., so it's still a moot point
Some people haven't yet accepted the fact that Blizzard is not the same company it used to be 5-10 years ago. Today it's just as much a corporate money milking machine as any of the other big name developers

There are two ways to get out a polished product:
1) Work extra hard and do it right
2) Take FOREVER
Tell me, which category do you think Blizzard fits mostly in?

P.S. Cant wait for Diablo 3 in 2015+ though!!!
This is standard for all reputable business's that have good products. Not just the videogame world. I can name a handful of developers that have the exact same technique as Blizzard hence the reputation that follows. I also know of many developers that don't use the highroad and release features half cocked and thier names are tarnished. Comon sense really.
