my useless trash sense is tingling...

My friend had a semi-old laptop that he was planing on throwing away because the HD was busted and he did not feel like screwing around with it(planning on buying a new one anyways).... so I took it off his hands... however he wanted to take the monitor that was already hanging by the threads becasue he thought he could use it for something else... since I couldnt let a laptop go to waste(always wanted one and I have  fixed comps before so why not laptop) I had to pick it up... now I am stuck with a problem... I need to pay around 80 bucks for a new HD but I dont know waht I am going to do about the monitor... do they sell just monitors for Sony laptops?... there is also a monitor switch on the back... I was thinking I could just find a real tiny monitor and use that but I dont think they sell them that small, lite and cheap... I am trying to find a deal under $100 I am cheap but I really want to fix this hunk of junk... so if you know anything please help thanks

dave lets not try to salvage it. the harddrive transplants on laptops always suck. besides u have to buy a new copy of WINDOWS, and OFFICE most likely. which should cost at the least around 400 bucks.

and i have never tried replacing a laptop monitor so dont try it will either be crappy or cost too much.

I know you had to do some soldering to get that monitor on. Tell me about it.

I'm interested in the outcome of this project. Can you take some pictures of your progress, then scan them into the computer and upload them for us please? That would be great.

Anyway, I dunno what you can do about your problem, never really cared for laptops.

    Good luck anyway

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

Not usually.  Every laptop screen I have ever encountered used a thin mylar ribbon or small wire bundle terminating at a plug to connect it to the laptop's mainboard.  Transplanting a new monitor is as simple as threading the ribbon(s) through the appropriate openings in the case and plugging them into
the right connectors on the mainboard.

The monitor itself has to be the exact same kind as the one it's replacing, however.

Being the same kind doesnt matter because we have DUCK TAPE! The universal bondage strips (toy story). You cannot tell that aliens fix their UFOs with duck tape!?
