Aika does DAoC's relic-hunting PvP in mirrored versions of the game world with 5 factions. It's pretty fun and has good pacing for an F2P.
Other fun PvP I've seen is in Face of Mankind, where the wars around New Year's raged so hard that I was blasting peeps and defending planets from siege for 16 hours straight.
Wurm has really hardcore PvP servers, the combat is beyond meh, but the siege aspect very tactical and worthwhile.
AoC's PvP server ruleset was fast, fun and fluid. There's no loss and you can return to the fray quickly. I had a blast.
MO's combat is pretty good once you get some skills and decent weapons, the community is a chode though.
~I recently did the Darkfall free trial and I have to say I'm beyond disinterested in the game anymore. It's not because the players border on chodes themselves, or the loss in death and difficulty of early PvE (and PvP) - it's the interface and controls. It's an absolutle nightmare to have all those windows on the screen, some taking up way too much space, and you can only be in 3rd person with the weapon out, but you can only interact with loot and NPCs with the weapon sheathed, and then in first person. You have to go back and forth between the two so often that it turned me off very badly. Did I mention that the hotkey to shift between the mouselook and free-cursor to muck with windows is the right-clicker? I don't even think it's possible to change it, because when you are in the window to change the key binds, no matter what you do it will make the window disappear and reappear when you click it. I didn't spend more than 3 hours with it, and I don't see myself trying again later down the line.

DarkFall and EVE Online are two high quality games with strong PVP elements. I've been considering DarkFall after some friends left a game we played (Pirates of the Burning Sea, do not recommend).
EVE Online I've played for years and continue to do so. It's immersive, it's PVP is relevant and it is a wholly different experience than other MMOs.
Daoc has the best pvp system in an mmo ever, but if you're new to the game, I would only suggest trying it if you are ok with having to play catch up with the people who have been playing for years and are experts at every aspect of the game. Those will be who you pvp with and against.
This means that for the most part, you will be left on your own lvling up, figuring out strategy and class roles and such, knowing what's expected of you in pvp, how to pvp, the rules of all the mechanics and items and abilties, and so on. Sure you might get some help here and there, but for the most part you're gonna have to learn on your own how to compete with 6 year veterans. Best pvp game yet, but I wouldn't bother.
whats the difference of DAOC pvp to other? can you please specify?
Yeah I'll write up a lengty description in a little while.
You could try DarkSpace for the three faction PvP.
It may not be up to the sames standards of those MMO's with million dollar budgets, but considering it's developed for free that's hardly suprising.
Give it a go.
You know you secretly want to :-)

WoW - never tried it. Not a fan of playing a cartoon character.
AoC - Playing it now. I am sad that the Tortage Underhalls has only 1 instance with nobody in it. I used to have a lot of fun in this area! I went to the island and found about 8 25lvl dudes waiting for people to port in who are tring to PVE so that they can kill them. Why do they do this? Do they gain anything? There is no gain or loss in PVP besides the time spent doing it . .. not a big enough rush for me to want to keep playing. No death penalty is just stupid. PVP seems to get you nothing.
Darkfall - Best game that I have ever played but with its clunky UI/controls I definitely would have said the opposite during my first couple weeks in until I totally customized them. I am trying to find a funner game and I honestly cannot find one that feels as real. This game can make my heart jump and hands shaky which other games simply cannot do. It is the most challenging MMO that I have found and think that it is the funnest to play but do not have a lot of time to play games. I like to play other games while harvesting in this one. Whatever happens in the other one doesn't matter if my harvester starts taking damage . .. lol
Warhammer - Another cartoon game that I played for the PVP . ... the only thing that I enjoyed was not knowing what was going to happen because I knew nothing of the game.
Aion - No way that I will ever try this . .. same category as WoW. I am almost 30 and do not want to play a cartoon.

I'm 29 and have no problem playing "cartoony" games. What's wrong with them exactly? Would you be embarrassed if someone caught you playing a game with "cartoon style" graphics? Do you feel a game's quality comes more from its graphics than its content? What exactly is it about the look of the game that stops you from playing it? Why do you draw the maturity line at graphics? Do you find playing games in general immature or just cartoony games?
Just wondering. I haven't posted here in a while but your post made me /facepalm enough to want to question you =P
Aion's not really cartoony, at least not nearly in the same way WoW is. The game's borkT anyway so you're not missing anything.
LOL no I am not saying that at all.
I guess when I play video games, I like to pretend that it is real. I used to do this with 16-bit games lol so I have a good imagination . .. but it is harder for me to put on my headphones and turn off the lights if the game is too cartoony or has fluff all over the screen. It is just my personal preference I guess . .. pretending to be in the game might be easier to do with cartoony graphics if I was younger maybe but I have a hard time doing it now.
Growing up I definitely preferred the sega genesis over super nintendo because of this same reason . .. although the NES had more fun games they had a lot of cartoony baby looking characters, usually with huge heads or carrying weapons that look to be way to heavy to lift . .. all of the best RPG games and games that seemed to be designed for adults were for the genesis. I have always had the preference of the game looking more realistic as a kid and as an adult. If the gameplay is fun enough than I may play it anyways, but it may also keep me from ever even trying it . .. I thought that Guildwars was a little too cartoony at first but I ended up loving it.
