It's actually a pretty good interview. They talk about what they showed at E3 in the first half of the video, but the second half switches to talk about planet sizes and he explains how some are gonna be more open ended than others. He also mentions that the starter worlds are much smaller than the rest of the planets.

Cool story. I hope Korribon isn't too small though. I think it would be a great place to explore in depth.
Yeah same here, but it would explain the closed in feeling in the Sith Inquisitor gameplay vid.
Great video, still watching. It will probably answer a bunch of questions people have.
So unless the guy is the biggest liar ever , the open element of the planets sounds like they are massive, excellent interview.

So the ships are not customizable or at least bioware didn't say so. It was just something made up from peoples.
"It needs to be a guided experience".
Sigh.
The chasis doesn't seem to be customizable, but I believe when Bioware said that you could customize it, and they did, they probably mean the paintjob and/or stuff inside your ship.
That's not fair.
If you listened to what came afterwards what he said was that there are players who need to know what to do when they log in so the game will offer them objectives that they can choose.
However, for those players who don't want to be on rails, who want to choose something else, there needs to be enough content so that they can grab friends and go on their own and be rewarded in some fashion for doing it. His example was exploring on tne other side of the planet.
So in the end it sounds to me that they are making an attempt to give players who are used to a more "game" like experience some guidance and for other players they can choose what they want to do.
now, the concern is whether or not a player can forgo all of the guided stuff if he/she wants and still end up in the same place. This is paraphrased at 9:34:
"not in one or the other camp [regarding sandbox/theme park]. what we looked at is that it needs to be a guided experience. What we mean by that is you need to know what to do next. if you log in and you are someone who wants guidance if you are someone who is used to playing rpg's, more guided mmo, you always need to have something very clearly there as an ojbective. that is what story is great for, it pulls you through the whole experience.
At the same time if you don't want to do that today you need to have a game that has enough features and enough fun things and enough stuff happening that really is sort of created organic fun out there so you can just go out there and screw off for the day. And you and your friends can say 'hey you know what woudl be fun? Let's go to the other side of Alderon because Alderon is huge and I've been here for hours and hours but never seen what is on the other side' and we want to put things that are going to reward you for doing it.
Obviously there is so much stuff that when we get it done, we haven't talked about crafting, about market place, trading, economy, it's all stuff that we are hugely into. You've noticed that we stick crafting in single player rpg's, you dont' need crafting in single player rpg's but people love crafting so it's going in"
He then goes on to talk about how the starter planets are much smaller than the regular planets because they act as tutorials and they want to get you off of them and into the rest of the game quickly.

Yay for taking quotes out of context. What he meant by guided was the story aspect of the game. In the very next sentence he says if you dont want to be guided by the story that there will be other things to do and explore with your friends.
edit: Ah, Sovrath beat me to it and said it much more eloquently. lol
Great interview and I so can't wait to play.
I just included the paraphrased bit with explanation as well.

Great quote, I thought I'd underline the important part, to counter kneejerk reflection posts stating SW ToR will be nothing more than a single player - theme park kind of game
The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:

Why?A distinct place could also be an RVR lake,it could be worlds set aside for PvP or it could be instances like scenarios or battlegrounds or it could be all three....nothing is answered except maybe it won't be open PvP everywhere,at all times...but that still doesn't preclude open PvP servers they could be talking about "nomral" servers.Again notihng is answered at all.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?

Great listen.
Good to know that you have 4 pcs, 4 companions in the group. So if your friend that is the tank or healer is gone, you can still do stuff. That's a huge bonus.
Tested a lot <.<. No real decision on how the "warzones" work, or how many.
The standard worlds are way way way way bigger then starter world.
When he asked about how you move from planet to planet, he sure did get a big big smile about we haven't talked about it yet. Hmm :P.
awesome interview...answered many questions.
I logged on to post a link to this interview - good to see that I'm not the only one that visits Darth Hater for real coverage of how the game is coming along.
I find Daniel Erickson particularly interesting to listen to. Also, Darth Hater simply puts all other sites to shame. Their questions are fantastic, they ask what people are asking and yet they seem to get the developers really talking about the game instead of being on the defensive. Hate on!
Second thing I want to say is that their grouping system, having the trinity but making that more interesting with the companion system is neat. You have something similar in DDO, with 3 people all bringing hirelings to a party. You can attempt to make up for failing to find a healer. So it really does make grouping easier.
It was also exciting that Daniel encouraged us to imagine exploring planets, and that he said they were working to reward players for going off the beaten track.
For me, it SOUNDS like they've got the balance right between themepark and sandbox. There are evenings where i will want strong direction and strong progression through the game and there will be evenings where I just want to explore and not be told what to do next.
For PvP this sounds like they want to see what works with their game. I'm hoping for the style that LOTRO has with a rather large area that you can easily avoid if you want no part of it, but on the flip side a popular part of the game that you are TEMPTED to get involved with.
Just wanted to add that Darth Hater have posted another interview, this time with James Ohlen. Not quite as fun or interesting, but quite a lot of detail there.
