Just doing a random quesiton to the masses here. SE's E3 demo is showing a new, faster combat system...and some people decrying that they like the slower combat system. In all single-player FF's, you can choose the speed of combat (ATB gauge?).
So I guess my quesiton here is, should party leaders be allowed to set the speed of combat in a way similar to how they set loot options? So groups who want a combat feel similar to FFXI can have it their way, while those who wish to burn through combat quickly still can play their way?
Of course, the speed of the MOB gauges would have to vary to match the group it attacked (or is being attacked by). But I don't expect this to be a difficult caveat to add.
But i believe this could be a setting that solo'ers can choose for themselves as well, if only to be fair to everyone.

Why on earth should combat speed be optional? That just gives people more things to complain about. Faster! no slower! Fine then im quitting group.
If you are not happy with the combat speed how it is and they have adjusted it. Then maybe this game is not fir you. I do not neccesarily mean the OP.
Edit: you also have to realize that whatever speed is chosen there will always be people that are unhappy. That is just how things work. Can't please everyone.
That is impossible. Imagine there are 2 groups in the area. The group who set it to higher speed will finish all the mobs in the area, meanwhile the other group is still halfway donne with the first mob. Too much imbalance. The best solution was to divide pc players to those console ones in different servers and give those with controllers as much time as they want to kill a mob.
I should probably share why I voted as I did.
You're basically asking SE to add and support multiple combat systems at the same time. Trying to keep the two (or more) combat systems balanced would be a nightmare with (imho) little pay off. In addition, any change that improves one of the combat systems but breaks the other would be rejected. So you would end up with two compromised systems.
I would prefer they spent developer resources (a finite resource) on making one amazing, in-depth combat system than trying to balance two.
Edit: you can make a similar argument for games that attempt to support PvE and PvP combat equally.
NO!

<I'm sorry> <forgiveness> <Can I have it?>
That brings up a question, know if they're still using the translation for chat?
If not, that will create some... awkward situations when a french guy, a german, brit, american and a nippon make a party together.
I could make a joke out of that one.
I can't believe that new system was considered faster!
Having not seen the "slow" version it still seemed very slow.
In any case only one system should be used. Not two.

trust me lol, it's faster. I wish the rules were lifted so I could show you guys some "things" but all I can say is, If you liked ffxi how the controles are, you will like this game. If you din't well... =

Heh, what an incredibly silly idea. If the combat looks too slow for you to enjoy it then just don't plan on playing FFXIV then. Better yet, if anyone has tried FFXI and didn't like it, chances are you won't like FFXIV either.
/facepalm after reading this. I'm all for inovative ideas and the like...but really?
