I wouldn't call something "quality" until it releases. FF14 and ToR are big nailbiters. '11 might just bring another list of games that WoW Cata gobbles up. Or not, and maybe CATA will be outshone and blasted away by the other MMO's that will appear on stage, and what will you do then? Sulk and moan because your favored MMO didn't make as much of an expression with its expansion, or will you be happy because there'll finally be other top MMO's around that manages to fulfill at least part of their potential and provide a stellar gameplay experience?
But, it's all guesswork now, so I guess we find out in 2011.
P.S. My post fails? Sorry for discussing on a discussion board. I CAN BE COOL TOO AND ACT ALL BIG INTERNET TOUGHT GUY.
Your post fails. I'M SO COOL.
Sure, you can try to be cool, and act all tough. If you succeed is another matter.

All I know is if they do, there is one gamer who's WoW sub will go into freeze. I myself am fed up with big axes Shaman keeps getting in WoW and the fact the game has gotten so boring. Im looking for something fresh and ToR looks to have it.
You're joking? Something fresh? ToR looks just like WoW set in the Star Wars Universe, not in graphics, but in core mechanics and gameplay.
To be honest WoWs gameplay is part of what kept its player base around. I have played nearly every MMO to launch in the past 8 years and they either have similar mechanics as far as gameplay or they go with more of an action based route and all those action based MMOs haven't really done all that well. The safe bet is to add a few new things keep core gameplay that is familiar. I really think its an IP/company thing that makes an MMO sell well as long as it has a solid foundation. It doesn't have to be innovative to be fun just change things up a bit add a few things new and keep the core gameplay solid and have the following of a well known IP/Company to be popular and pull in a crowd for long term.
I agree. However, I'm not a big fan of a single player storyline MMO type game. Companions drives me even further. Companions in an MMO are absolutely not familiar at all, and I don't see this resonating with players that well. I speak for only myself, though, and time will tell.
Having your own story is fine by me as long as there is all that other stuff from MMOs in there which it appears there is. Companions are optional to use and I have yet to see a companion used in a full group so that makes me believe they wont be usable if you have a full party.

Green, green. The thing of it is, a community has been established in WoW for 6 years. MMO's revolve around a community, and people won't just pick up and leave so easily. If WoW gets blasted away, I'll throw MMORPG a pizza party, because finally someone did it. But I 100% doubt it.
WoW is not my favored MMO, truly. If you look at my picture sig, I deeply hate one of it's latter developers for his douchebagedness in EQ and turning WoW into his EQ 2.0

Having your own story didn't work so well in AoC, but I guess the big defacto there was just a terrible graphical experience. Who knows. MMO's that have had single player components to them thusfar haven't done that great.
As much as I want TOR to be awesome, (I love Bioware games and am just about the biggest Star Wars nerd on the east coast) you guys seem to be forgetting that it's being published by EA. You know "let's release the same sports game each year" EA? "Yearly sequels" EA? "DLC for EVERYTHING" EA?
Bioware on it's own would make a great game no doubt, but with EA on the scene you can almost bet TOR will play like WoW 1.5.
Now don't get me wrong, I still plan on buying and playing the game in the hopes it will be new and refreshing, but I'm not holding my breath.
Anyway, as long I can force choke a Gungan I'll consider it money well spent.
Yeah but if in game chat/forums/Friends in guilds and RL are any sign then WoW will take a big hit by 2012. So many people are just waiting for something new that is actually ready for release not polished a year later. I don't see it dying by any means but I wouldn't be surprised to see its user base cut down from 11 mill to around 4-5mill. I believe alot of MMOs coming out have alot of polish and may actually be ready when they launch. I don't think there is a WoW killer I think it will be a combination of MMOs that will hurt its numbers. Problem is every MMO that has launched since WoW has become the king have just been unpolished/unfinished products.

It's called World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Opinions are opinions, however, your reasoning is funny.

Agree. If they weren't on tight budgets and deadlines, AoC and WAR would've probably had different outcomes.

You've noticed that we stick crafting in single player rpg's, you dont' need crafting in single player rpg's but people love crafting so it's going in"
He then goes on to talk about how the starter planets are much smaller than the regular planets because they act as tutorials and they want to get you off of them and into the rest of the game quickly.
He also mentions how Companions will and can be used, how teamplay isn't forced but certainly encouraged by them, and how the gameplay experience will be very different for each class up to the storylines from beginning to end being fully unique. Another detail, the Imperial Agent will have sniper type abilities.

First of all, the 11 million people playing on WoW includes around 5-6 million asians. Since I don't believe TOR is releasing in Asia right away I doubt WoW would go down to 4-5 million. Second of all, I can't imagine it would even lose half its subscriber base in North America. People are always saying they want something new, but it is just a pschological need to always want something new. Nothing specific ever satisfies most of these people. I do think WoW will lose some subs, but even 10% of its population is stretching realism pretty thin.

If they want it to be inbetween a sandbox and themepark, isn't the red highlighted exactly what a themepark is? I guess it does seem to want to include things to do other than the main quests/raids, but so has every other MMO in existence. MMORPGers are a skeptical lot nowadays and having faith is the fastest way to lose $50

EA has been on the scene for DAO and ME2 and they were both amazing games. Bioware is the kinda studio you leave alone and let them do what they have been doing because it makes you TONS of money. They have pretty much been shoveling Bioware money to do what they need to do. Also why wouldn't they keep pumping out sequels and yearly sports game if they sell in the millions?

I know what you're saying, but Bioware is being published by EA, Blizzard is in a corporate marriage with and owned by Activision and Vivendi, and ArenaNet is being published by NCSoft.
I guess we just have to keep our eyes open, and see how much and what kind of influence each of the mother companies separately has on their child prodigy's MMO's.

Yep, as the interview said they'll cater to both the different playstyles.

Well atleast Bioware won't have money deadlines to hit, like Funcom and Mythic. I hope EA won't pull the plug and release ToR early like they did to WAR.

If you would have read that I wasn't saying TOR alone would take that many it was a combination of BIG IP MMOs set to release by 2012. Even if ToR doesnt do a global launch you can bet FF14 will be launching day 1 to the asian. Not to mention China where a majority of those asian subscribers are have been playing the exact same game for what almost 2 years now. I also highly doubt WoW has maintained its 11.5 subscriber base with the issues and china and the players in NA/EU who have grown tired of the same thing for 6years.

Let's just scoop all of your gross generalizations into one sweeping statement to drive your point.
Every game since WoW's release has WoW elements in some way, Just like WoW took from EQ and DAoC. The industry is mainly a copy and paste thing, developers copy ideas to add to their game, its the way it works. All games weather big or small will have some influence from previous games. Pure plain simple as for it being EA well EA own's Bioware I'd kinda expect them to put their name on it.

I was in WAR closed beta for a year that game had no hope. Bad dev team = bad game. If it hadnt been for EA I would be suprised if that game would have even launched and if it had it would have been in even worse shape. If they were going to pull the plug they already would have since it was originally set to launch this year.
So then, to raise another question. How exactly is this different from WoW, besides obvious physical apperances?
What am I, your internet bot? If you can't determine the differences as well the resemblances from the information released so far, then I see no reason to try and gather up all the highlights in bitesize chunks for you.
Go look at the interview yourself, or the SW TOR threads where the available information from E3 has been compiled, enough of those around.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head there, Trobon.
EA is known for taking a successful formula and copying it's base genetic structure, but not giving it quite enough time in the womb to develop fully, so to speak. The games usually come out as incomplete, semi retarded clones of a better game.
Examples: Dante's Inferno was just a low rent God of War. Spore had so much potential but was rushed out the door with some mysteriously missing features that later turned up in expansions. The Sims is just one huge cash grab at this point. Both Mass Effect and Dragon Age are fine games in and of themselves, but do you really think Bioware has any real desire (outside of obvious money of course) making these 2 hour long mission packs they keep crapping out? And finally anyone who says EA sports games are anything more than a copy / paste job each year may have taken a mild to severe blow to the head.

Obviously there is so much stuff that when we get it done, we haven't talked about crafting, about market place, trading, economy, it's all stuff that we are hugely into.

The point, as I understood it, was that EA is not known for innovation.

So then, to raise another question. How exactly is this different from WoW, besides obvious physical apperances?
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Whoops, you beat me to it.

I was in WAR closed beta for a year that game had no hope. Bad dev team = bad game. If it hadnt been for EA I would be suprised if that game would have even launched and if it had it would have been in even worse shape. If they were going to pull the plug they already would have since it was originally set to launch this year.
What am I, your internet bot? If you can't determine the differences as well the resemblances from the information released so far, then I see no reason to try and gather up all the highlights in bitesize chunks for you.
Go look at the interview yourself, or the SW TOR threads where the available information from E3 has been compiled, enough of those around.

kinda pointless thread? cata will be out this year probly november/october even. from what i read of kotor it still got alot of work needed still if this game launches this year the soonest we probly see it is in the fall. my bet kotor wont be out til 2012 tho
