Great, so I guess that means that every BH will look like clones of eachother every 10 levels because of uncustomizable armor.

    No.  It's a sample.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

I noticed that the set with the yellow stripe was the same one from the BH class section on the TOR site.  I think that may mean that the sets have customizable colors and perhaps even designs because I don't remember a stripe on that set.

they said that characters/gear are customisable (stated in a PVE group video at E3). he even made a joke about it.

That may be the set you get for following the story arc. It doesn't inlcude the crafting and instance drops that may occure. Just looks like a sample of the design for the class.

Well I did some digging. According to the developers each level has multiple sets of armour. Each set is part of a level to level set which can be intermixed. Colors can be kept ramshackle or made to match so sets can be intermixed without that clown costume issue in Wow. I couldnt get a straight answer about the stats of the multiple sets at each level though.

Suffice from a artwork standpoint Im very impressed.

My 2 cents the first step of armor progressions look star warsy the lasts looks more and more

like medieval fantastic armors . But since they decided to go down the cartoony soft faced

art direction we all know  what public they wish to cater for.

The answer to the question of people being a cookie-cutter copy of one another is simple to answer by asking a different question.

    Are stats tied to armor?

    If yes, cookie-cutter.

    If no, then not.

Just that simple.  In the end we are playing a game with mechanics determined by stats.  Most of the population will not forgo a major loss in game viability for a nominal increase in appearance.  The only way to ensure characters don't look near identical to one another is to decouple stats from looks.

As proof look at CoH, CO and APB.

    Not just another pretty color.

Or else maybe give you armour "kits" of a sort with the stats tied to them that you can apply to any piece of armour you wish.

As i posted in another thread:

While i like the sets of armor they show in the movie for bounty hunter progression, i can't help but feel a little apprehensive.  They talk about having thousands of sets of armor so that no two players look alike (similar to every other game out there braggin of large item cominations).  The problem is that 90% or so of these sets/items is for non level cap gear.  While players are leveling, looking the same isn't usually the problem, everyone is scambling for whatever upgrades the can get and sometimes that level 18 cloth shoulder is just way better then your level 6 plate.  The players all looking the same becomes a problem when they make end gear the best possible stuff to have....is that wrong?  No.  it's just everyone then targets that 1 item to have.  If the "Red striped Comm helm" is the best trooper head piece there is, i guarantee there will be no limit to the number of people trying to get it, as well as the when they all have it, they will all be wearing it and look the same.

Something that i thing was a great feature was in EQ2, the appearence tab.  Here you could put gear that would overwrite anything you were wearing to change the look to what you want.  You could be a level 80 shadow knight and run around in Twill, it changed nothing in your stats, only how you looked.  If you wanted to have a farmers hat but still show off your full Tier X gear, all you had to do was get teh hat and throw it in the head slot of the appearance tab.

I'm not talking up or down or fanbio-ing or hating on the game, there is still a year to go and a lot of stuff to look forward to.  I'm just getting a little tired of everyone boasting X thouns millions number of custom gear but missing the fact that everyone wants the same 1 or 2 pieces when they hit end game.

You are flow blown retarded, as if they can show everything its a "Progression".  If you watched E3 too you would have heard youd be able to customize armor.   I suppose its easier to just spout off negative comments when you know nothing.

My opinion is based on 11 yrs of mmo gaming and experience in game design itself. "Most" of the time in an mmo when the developers do matching sets as shown in the video it is because the sets are level restricted and usually if there are alot of different types to show, the same developers will do a fast time-elapsed shot(which there wasn't, it was slow), displaying the large variety available.

So all that being explained, you should be able to see why when Bioware shows so few set varieties and all with matching components that it would "appear" the armor sets are level restricted. When sets are level restricted you end up with a lot of clone-looking players running around; such as in L2 and other similar asian grindfest mmo's.

BTW, the ability to change only the color of armor is weak at best and I wouldn't consider bragging about customization if I were Bioware, lol. EQ2 tried that and it failed.

Seriously? My last post got edited without using any profane words or vulgar comments and only because of my personal view of Bioware? wow, gotta love freedom of speech...

Guys, Bioware said at E3 that there are even outfits that ANY class can wear and you'll be able to customize your appearance.  I'm betting on an outfit type system like in LOTRO.  If this is the case, you will be able to look MUCH different from everyone else.

  • McGamerMcGamer Member UncommonPosts: 1,073

It would great if BW confirmed that on their mainsite because I think that would be an awesome feature. Also would be nice if a link could be shown about BW confirming being able to mix and match armor parts.
