First of all, I would like to state that I absolutely love Bioware and all their games, including KOTOR and sequels, and the animation and graphics in ME and ME2 were so realistic and just plain AWESOME.
Now to the question at hand: "The animations were smooth and extremely well done;"
Seriously? You saw that in those vids? All I saw was some raw unfinished animation (characters dont move at all, even when they get shot). The game feels... stiff... even from the vids, I dunno, I'm so disappointed with what I saw. Also characters run like they crapped their pants.

He who keeps his cool best wins.
hard to be believe this game is from the company that made ME. but maybe EA found some cheap indian animators or somehing... would explain why the gameplay looks so poor. not going to help the game at launch though. graphics aren't exactly nice to look at, either.
you guys are jumping to conclusions, the game is still in Alpha, im sure some of their models are not final and definatly not the animations.
This is true, if you look at past videos up to the current ones, the models and animations have progressed amazingly. The newest videos show some of the best animations I've ever seen. The in-game-cinematic modeling isn't great at all and needs some work, but the in-game-during-play models are looking fantastic. I think we're going to see a few more changes to those models as they continue the development
indeed, the game still has a year left in development. and it already looks amazing from what they started with.
Wishfull thinking that anything will improve drastically.
It will suck just as bad at launch, it´s about to enter Beta soon.
STO dejavu basically, `It´s still Alpha, it´s still beta, it just launched, mirracle patch inc....
Yep.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
Well, if you think it's going to suck so bad at launch why are you still following it. second, you're probably one of those guys that compare every MMO to WoW. when it wasn't even the first of it's kind. all mmo's are the same but there is different innovations in each one. ALSO, beta is still about 6 months away or so.. its not soon. we will see what happens when it drops.
STO dejavu? I think thats kind of a silly argument given the very different track records of the companies.
If you played WoW In late alpha/early beta you'd know just how much of the finicky tweaking is done near the end, at this point its pointless to fine tune features and animations that may never get used at launch.
I wouldn't start juding good/bad on a game that isn't even in beta yet, thats a bit like seeing your kid do bad on a test in elementary school and decide right there to close down his college fund. Silly.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
I´m following it because I´m a suporter.
I think it will be awesome fun, just like WoW, but with lightsabers.
Bioware executive producers told us so.
It´s gonna rock!

Animations did seem a bit stiff, but I'd take a jab its just game engine tweaking/development side stuff that still needs to get ironed out. They have plenty of time to do it, so personally, I'm not sweating it.
"you guys are jumping to conclusions, the game is still in Alpha, im sure some of their models are not final and definatly not the animations."
Ok, please name one game that drastically changed or updated its graphics, animations etc. during Alpha, Beta (whatever) and had a totally different look & feel at launch.
The "relax guys its still in alpha" statements are utterly meaningless since history repeatedly shows the majority of MMO's recieve little to no astetic changes after the product starts getting marketed to the public.
SWTOR is already being mass marketed at this point since Bioware/EA/LA are obviously spending capital to show you all these extended previews of their product.
What you have seen in these previews is more than likely going to be what you get.
I agree - additionally, all those square-nosed, no-neck movement toons are exactly the same as the square-nosed, no-beck movement toons we saw in DA:O and ME. Do you really think Bioware is going to change its entire design ethos now? Witth less than nine months to launch?
I hate to say it but I think this game could end up being another STO. That is it has an amazing fan base who are very loyal, a fun experience that people like but just doesn't deliver. From what we have seen and even what the devs have said in interviews it is going to be looking for that middle MMO ground ruled over by WoW. No shame in that a lot of investors want that middle ground and if you can take it and be a sucess you probably have the largest target audience possible. Or at least you did 5 years ago.
I think come 2011 its not enough to just offer what we have seen before polished up, you can't offer the champions online engine reskined and expect people to swallow it. MMO gamers are rightly demanding more for their money, with consols going on line its possible to play free to play games where I get to head shot my mate. Constantly single player games are getting better with realistic graphics and physics and action and story. So much so trying to peddle some sub par combat system doesn't cut it any more.
And so while ToR will look very very nice (assuming they can sort the animation out) it will still be a stylised realistic game with less than edge of your seat combat (from what we have seen) and a fairly familiar game system that simply put isn't good enough for todays MMO gamer. Who want and deserve something more.
You forget that WE are the MMO gamer, and this is exactly what WE want, and what WE deserve.
If you dont like it, don't play it, but don't assume that everyone else will follow you.
This doesn't actually deserve a response... I have never seen a forum where people are so devout to straight trolling.
In the last year the visuals and have improved by a bit and the stylised realism is there to stay. Take it or leave it. It has been explained many times over that the graphics are like that specifically forreasons of PC specs and the fact that stylised realism looks more fluid than many/all attempts at realistic movement which look choppy and robotic to say the least.
The game has about 5/6 months before it even thinks of entering beta, and I'm sure if they released the game the way it is it would be quite a bit better than STO.
I would understand if you were critiquing the game because it is still a year out and if you were willing to compromise on any form of thought but apparently you know A LOT more than a lot of writers and game designers... I think there is quite a future waiting for you if you were to just get off the PC and go get a job at Blizzard or Bioware, or even make your own company, you could blow all these guys outta the water with your eyes closed!
Not to be an asshole. But im pretty sure they said the game was releasing spring of 2011.. i could be off but .. isnt that 5/6 months.. beta will be out in 2 to 3 IMO
Well, 6 months from now it will be DECEMBER, and generally thats called WINTER, not SPRING. You're already several months off on your assumptions.
No, your right to be concerned. 6 months would be December, Spring 2011 = March/April/May I would assume, so maybe I'm off by a month or 2.
We are currently in Mid-June, so 11/10 months left, give them 6 months before beta can be released so they can tweak it, they release the game after 5 months of beta...
Yep I guess everyone knew that WoW's graphics were the best in alpha/beta amrite? I see some pictures and it looks like shit to me from what it does now.
First of all, there's a difference between play taken beta screenshots, and screenshots taken by the company to advertise the game. You tend to see BETTER graphics than release graphics in those.
Second, that's exactly how I remember was at launch.
Right and I'm seeing alot of people saying that the graphics won't get any better. I tend to see the same people gripe almost everything. SW:ToR isn't targetting those that have about thousands bucks into video cards and a processor they want everyone be able to the play the game and they've have stated this on THEIR forums. The fact some people can't play WoW on an average computer even with the graphics all the way down. I don't know how many times I've done Lord Marrowgar and people can't stack on his butt because spells lock up their PC and they d/c and its wipe. So yeah I rather have it where if someone wants to play that don't have that kind of money to put into a computer then maybe thats where SW;ToR can make their money.
I`ll name one game .... World Of Warcraft.
P.S. look at above post for more details.
Lol, it's not just the crapy dated graphics.
The OP is complaining about character models and animations.
Thinking that anything will change in that department at this stage is delusional.
Learn to like the "artistic" crapy graphics, animations and char models or leave it alone, just dont live in denial, there are zillion of MMO launches we all went through to prove you wrong about what to expect.
How it is now it's how it's going to be at launch (graphics/models/animation wise)
Like i said... wishfull thinking.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
Yep because looks like GW2 has the same character models as FF MMo. Yep so awesome.
GW2 use own engine and the graphics will be top notch, new generation, BUT... I'm not a fan of the Asian high fantasy looks myself.
I consider it a con for GW2 not a pro.
I'm a fan of AoC realistic char models and animations but sadly that's all that AoC got and gameplay > all.
Funcom's new MMO uses the same engine so they have another chance to make a realistic looking MMO with good game play, we'll see.
