Bioware has yet to announce all playable races. So far we know of Twi'lek, Human and Chiss (although this might have been for demo purposes only)

Anything else at this point is speculation, so it might be a bit early to complain, hmm?

i don't see a wookiee fit in this gameplay.

i don't get the feeling that we should get  a i wookiee as a playable race like in swg.

do you see it already in front of you a wookie jedi/sith or a wookie trooper/bountyhunter.

as companion it may be a succes. like your own chewbacca.

Wookies are not a very prevelent race in the period in the starwars timeline that TOR takes place in.

  • AdamantineAdamantine Member RarePosts: 5,094

As far as I know, we only know two of the playable races in SWTOR so far, and we dont know how many playable races there will be.

And maybe even Bioware themselves havent decided yet.

Also, if Zalbaar from SWKotOR 1 is any indication, maybe playing a Wookie isnt such a good idea in the first place anyway. You'll have good strength, but otherwise you dont get any armor and you lack in other features as well.

SW:TOR is still a year away. ALso, FOr all we know, we can purchase the Wookie model at the Bioware online store :P

And Chiss are? Now there is a reason Wookiees probably won't be in the game, which is the voice overs. However, them not being prevelent seems to be a non-issue when we can play Chiss.

I guess I always assumed it was kinda rare for a Wookie to leave his/her homeworld... is this correct?

Whats wrong with a Wookie force user?

Lowbacca or "Lowie" was a Wookiee Jedi Knight during the Yuuzhan Vong War. He was the nephew of Chewbacca, the son of Kallabow and Mahraccor, and the brother of Sirrakuk. He studied at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum and was a companion of Jaina SoloJacen Solo and Tenel Ka. He wielded a bronze-bladed lightsaber.

Goerge Lucas has gone on record as stating that there will never be any more Wookiee Jedi in canon. He says that it is extrememly rare and I think the canon officials say there is one born ever 100 years or so.

As much as I have been disappointed by this game and the way they are doing the character graphics. Playable wookie would probably bring me back!

From Lowbacca's Wookieepedia article, behind the scenes:

"After the release of the Dark Nest TrilogyGeorge Lucas declared that no more Wookiee Jedi could be made in the Expanded Universe.[3]"

  • Are wookies able to speak basic?  Cause they have said that all playable races need to speak basic.  Wouldnt suprise me to see atleast a wookie companion for smuggler class(possibly for others but who knows) but doubt wookies will be playable.

    Yes.

During both the time period of KOTOR, and during the movies, the only wookies that left Kashykk did so as slaves, captured by Czerka corp and the Empire, respectively. So far, in both canon and non-canon examples, Wookies have no high tech of their own, let alone starship technology.

As for the Chiss thing, they do have the technology. However, post-movie lore sets them as being isolationistic to the point of xenophobia. This however, is a psychological trait, and you could argue that they weren't always like that, with the KOTOR era possibly pre-dating the clan rule that they had in the post-movie era. The KOTOR games had chiss in them as well, in a couple different locations. It's speculation though, and I guess we'll see what Bioware cooks up.

The Team who made The Force Unleashed originally wanted a Wookie based game and storyline.  Lucas told them NO and sent them back to the drawing board.

Yes but for one we are dealing with a time where the force was far more common and secondly we can't exactly be going by G ot T canon, at most we are looking at C (continuity) or S (secondary) canon considering this is supposed to be a long time before even the clone wars. The farther back the IP tends to go the greater number of force users you find.

    A few points:

    1. My main reasoning for there being no wookiees is voice-overs. I was pointing out the canon of Wookiee Jedi to help people understand why there is one, even though Lucas has said there won't be.

    2. We will be C-Canon. S-Canon is for very, very loose things like Marvel Comics from back in the 70s. All video games have been C-Canon.

    3. Lucas' statement was in response to a C-Canon character and he has disallowed it in other C-Canon games.

There were Wookies in KOTOR and KOTOR2 but neither  were Jedi. I don't really mind the idea of Wookie's being in TOR, but I would expect BioWare to respect Lucas' ruling on Wookie Jedi and not allow Wookie's as a race to become a Jedi.

A wookie trooper would be awesome though and I am not too motivated about smugglar that feels over done to me, wookies are tough. I played a wookie commando in swg and they are perfect tough guys, they don't have to be jedi but trooper would be a smart placement. Canon or no gotta have a playable wookie just not smugglar please ... lol

The thing is they're not going to... let me rephrase that... I seriously doubt they will include a race that can only play as half the classes and doesn't speak basic.

Out of all the non-human races in the entire Star Wars franchise, Wookies are the most well known.  It'd be pitiful for an MMORPG like TOR to not have them.  It's not like they need that many fancy voiceovers.  Just get that intern that knows can mimic Chewie, pay him a few bucks, and have him make Wookie sounds.

    Done!

As for Chiss being in TOR, it's ridiculous.  The Chiss weren't even known until the later era of the Republic.  The events surrounding Outbound Flight was the only time the Chiss were made known to the Republic, and even thown, only a very select few knew about them.  It's also their first run in with some dude named Thrawn, who led the Chiss forces in crushing Outbound Flight and the Jedi aboard it.

For Chiss to be in TOR, which is set in much earlier times than Palpatine's era, is stupid.  For Chiss to be in and Wookies not to be in is retarded as hell.  Wookies have been shown quite a bit in all Star Wars movie and cartoon productions.  So, Wookies can't be Jedi?  Okay.  That doesn't stop them from being Hunters, Mercenaries, Soldiers.  The Force is nice and all, but having Wookies pulling people's arms out of their shoulders is just as entertaining.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." I'm going to agree with you to an extent.  Yeah, Chiss would be somewhat rare.. but,  this could open up the idea that wookies may be a very limited species confined to a particular class.  I was pretty sure that wookies would be out entirely, mainly due to the voiceovers and wookies not being able to speak basic... but there may be ways around that as well.  Personally I won't be crushed if they aren't in,  but I can see how it could be possible.  I wouldn't rule it out entirely...
