Probably a great thing in reality.

Most of the failed hyped releases of late have been pressured into releasing well and truly before they were ready. Games like AoC where they don't have the funding to support further development despite a disgraceful lack of testing, or WAR where they even had the audacity to brag about being one of the quickest developed major MMOs to date, releasing with a totally flawed engine and a distinct lack of content.

If they are already pushing out quality in game footage they obviously aren't planning on cutting any corners in the development and testing phases, and theres plenty of time for major reworking of fundamental ideas (faction system, for example, although i don't agree at all that that is the reason why WAR failed, it would however be nice not to see hostile enemies wandering about as allies for a change).  Oh and they should drop the Order and Destruction label, they want to distance themselves from WAR as much as possible. Different IP, different developer, different mechanics.

A simple concept done effectively in reality is going to be better than any rushed MMO with dreams of grandeur. An established popular IP, some progressive ideas, somewhat unique but not pushing revolutionary, diligent testing and polish, and you might get something playable for more than a 6 month period, which would be unique in the current environment.

Forget it for a year or two, enjoy the next wave of MMOs, and maybe 40k will surprise us. The best thing you can do in any project is produce a realistic initial schedule.
