PC vs PS3?

GrafbendaGrafbenda Member Posts: 51

So I was thinking, with the hefty game requirements would it be cheaper to buy a PS3 instead of upgrading our 2nd PC.  Do you guys think that the PS3 version of the game will offer excellent performance or just middle of the road?  I am guessing that a high end PC might allow people to have a better visual experience with FF 14

Also will PS3 people be able to play with the PC people or will there be separate servers for each?

Thanks for any thoughts or insight you might have on this :)

I'm in the same boat with you.  I failed the benchmark miserably and to get a computer that would ace it, I'm looking at over a grand.  Bleh.  The cost of a new PS3 and a Vizio 30" would be cheaper.  It' a tough call.  Hopefully we'll have some word on the performance on the PS3 soon.

As far as PC and PS3 being on the same servers, I can't speak for sure as I don't follow the pre-release terribly closely, but if it's anything like FFXI they ought to play on the same servers.  Hope that helps!

They already said all platforms and all regions on the same server. The PS3 version will probably run at about 'avaerage' on that benchmark scale - so it can run it; and it will look pretty. It won't however - have all the 'little extra features' turned on, or on 'high'.

If your a PC gamer your PC really shouldn't be that outdated - and if it was you would already be upgrading it. If you even have to think about whether to upgrade or not - I think a PS3 would be more your style.

My PC isn't bad, I got 2200 on the hi res and 4000 on the low res and I am hoping with a few tweaks to the engine I can run fairly successfully.

I was thinking about the wifes PC, might be time to get her a new one or an excuse to get a PS3 for me lol

im probably going the route of ps3. i have a pc, but i refuse to drop the cash to get that thing up to par for a game that im not 100% sold on yet. luckily im not a "gotta have the best" kind of guy because a pc upgrade would be crazy expensive. I actually built a decent comp for AoC and we all know how that started out. learn from my mistake. make sure its worth it or u absolutely want it. if i do like ffxiv i'll most likely get it for both platforms like i did for ffxi. having both platforms for ffxi allowed friends to come over and log on and hang out. plus my wife might want an account of her own. ps3 first tho. hopefully the ps3 will be enough to satisfy my needs while pc parts come down in price.

This benchmark thing looks like a trick to make peoples buy ps3. I mean a pc that can run crysis perfectly scores average on this? Maybe it's not optimized fully yet.

If the PC version is actually made like a PC version should be, I'll go PC. But if its clearly a PS3 game just ported over, then PS3 it will be.

Since I don't "need" to have the best, I will just try out the game on the PC. Once the PS3 version comes out some time later, i will see how that runs on the PS3, and I will make a decition at that point.

Those who upgrade WAY before they get to play the game are setting themselves up for disappointment. What if you don't like the game? What if the PS3 version is way better than the PC could run, ect. ect. Patience is a virtue.

Supposedly, the PS3 and PC will launch simultaneously unless I missed an article somewhere.

I guarantee with 100% certain accuracy no doubts will bet a lot of money that the PS3 will run medium to low with no AA capabilities based on what I saw with the benchmark. The benchmark is optimized based on what I saw with other computer setups except for the fact it does not run crossfire/sli yet.

I have a crossfire setup, but here is my score without it enabled:

Optimizing for PS3 is completely different from optimizing for PC. You can't draw -any- conclusions from that benchmark as to how PS3 will be able to handle the game. The PS3 structure is completely different.

    From the link above:

"Once I got into combat, I found out that I no longer enjoyed the controls as much. Targeting is the same as FFXI, and you can still lock your target, except you're now relegated to attacking once you get enough stamina. Stamina is much like the timed battles of yore, forcing you to "wait for your turn." However, stamina also offers more options, such as attacking early and doing less damage instead of waiting for your bar to fill up completely. It's all your call.

However, all of your skills are listed in a hotbar at the bottom of the screen. Controller users will find themselves gimped, as they'll use their directional pad to move from skill to skill before using it with X. Keyboard users celebrate, as the hotbar's icons are mapped to the 1 through 9 keys on your keyboard. Even your standard attack is mapped to your hotbar, so controller users will have to D-Pad over to use a skill, and then D-Pad back to attack. This was a pain in the rear for lancers, as most of my abilities increased the damage or abilities of my basic thrust."

So,even if u think PS3 have an advantage in price, this is one of it's disadvantages. I'll go PC. If new drivers and game optimization can't improve it enough,i can spend another 100 bucks and get me another gts250 and SLI it.Cheaper than a PS3

Of course PS3 will be inferior in one way or the other (although your point makes not much sense considering every USB keyboard works with PS3 by default) but that's the payoff for cheaper price. They are pretty much even, considering PS3's cheaper price and PC's superiority in the visual department. Everyone can do what they prefer that way.

Because you can't use a keyboard and or mouse on the PS3, amirite!? [insert eye roll]

I play XI currently on PC and occasionally Xbox 360 and I use keyboard AND controller depending on whats the most convenient at the time, I forsee myself doing the same thing with XIV.

Yes I can, and it's based on other games and knowledge of the hardware. Just because something isn't out yet, doesn't mean we can't assume that PS3 will be downscaled majorly from computer. In this case, I give 100% that the game will be much lower quality than computer.

If you really think the PS3 can handle FFXIV on high settings in a crowded enivornment with lots of detail, you are in a sad positition. Also, don't be surprised if the ps3 version has a lot a lot a lot of load times due to the small amount of memory.
