For anyone thinking of trying this and wanting a hand getting started and someone to play with, read through this and then send me a PM. I've played for a bit but looking for a partner or two since my other gaming friends either can't run the game on their PC's, or only like fantasy MMO's.
A bit about the game: combat and the game world (action districts) is very much like GTA IV multiplayer if you've ever played that. Throw in some Second Life styled customization and economy (social district) and that's how the game feels to me. Its very polished and seems release ready, aside from in-game web browser not working I haven't encountered any bugs.
Through June 19th its in open beta pretty much, anyone can instantly get a key and play, although each key is limited to 10 hours now of time (not including infinite "social district" time). I can help anyone interested get setup.
So if the game sounds interesting to you, and your PC meets the min. requirements (preferably higher), and you have or don't mind getting/using Ventrilo, and if you are 21+, and from the US/Canada shoot me a PM here letting me know specifically that you meet all these requirements! This game is great fun.

I acquired a key to the city recently and decided to start playing a bit yesterday.
The character customization is fantastic, but the gameplay has some major flawes.
I believe one of the reviewers on MMORPG said that you would really have to get used to the fps style WASD movement. Well, I think that was sort of inherent to the fact that she obviously never played anything similar to a Western MMO, but oh boy, is movement and field of vision fucked up or what.
The worst part about combat, actually, is the camera. I've been doing about 8 missions in my first 3 hours, where I got caught behind my own character, entirely losing sight of where I was aiming, about 7 out of 10 times. I won't pretend that I'm some perfect FPS'er, because I'm not, but the controls, movement and camera are far worse than any GTA game ever released. That includes the 2d versions.
A game like this stands or falls with how well combat is handled and it's simply not very good. Movement is choppy, the camera is horrible. It's not graphically impressive (regardless of the customization, no it's not) and seems to be little more than a very average FPS. I think it's been said before, but, 50 bucks for an FPS, sure. 50 for a lousy fps, naaa..50 for a bad fps with monthly sub..hell fucking no.
I haven't had much trouble with the camera, controls, or movement at all myself. Feels almost exaclty like GTAIV which I played alot. Same for graphics, on my medium/medium-high end rig they are right on par with GTAIV.
But this isn't a review thread, anyone who is interested can try the game for themselves for free easily (until the 19th) and make their own judgements. Like every MMO or game ever made, some people will like it, some won't.
I love the ideas behind the game, but it falls totally flat on the combat and balance side of things. And like above, i also found the camera to be very annoying.
Word of advice... DO NOT make a character with an afro... blocks your line of site.. I lose my target in close shoot outs cause the fro blocks them lol.
This made me laugh. As for APB I like the game, but content has something missing right now.
lol well put. gta it is not. is this game for fans of gta or is it more for people who have heard of gta maybe even played one of them a little but dont realize how badly gta blows it out of the water?
This game does NOT belong on mmorpg.com. Well, along with Global Agenda, I really dont think so.
The mmorpg kids here have grown to be spoon-fed an entitlement expectation whereby if your not immediately compensated with M&M's for showing up to play, it isnt worth it.
APB is not a TPS and its not an MMO. Its a blend of each. Its a fast-paced highly customizatble, very player influenced blend of each. The ones that wont appreciate it are those that want a game where you play a fairy without being interfered with. Its a free-form, open environment, unsuspecting environmental mmo that is without a pvp switch so you cant be some anti-social in a corner churning butter alone under the disguise of being a crafter, free from harm.
Dont know what else to say, but go back to the mmo of choice youve been playing over the last 5 years that hasnt sustained more than 300,000 consistent subscibers (other than EVE and Aion) and live-out your entertainment life in a failled mmorpg, because APB isnt an mmorpg but a mmotps.
I've been using the internet for over a decade now, yet the quality of forums still somehow surprises me. 95%+ of all posts are off topic, flames, trolls, or incoherent. In this thread for example, not a SINGLE reply post prior to this one has been on topic.
This isn't a review thread. This isn't an opinion thread. There are dozens of those already up, or there is a nice magic button called "New Topic" you can use to make your own. Of couse, silly of me to expect better, so moving on:
The three people who contacted me and tried the game with me all unanimously decided to preorder and said it was the most fun they had in a game in a long while. A fourth person couldn't run the game due to high latency, and we couldn't sort out what was causing it. I'll be out of town tomorrow, the last day of the free trial event, so unfortunately can't introduce anyone else to the game. If you still haven't tried it for yourself, I highly recommend you ignore both the positive and negative reviews and give the game a shot to make your own opinion.

The Result wiil still be the exact same lack of cotent yay. This is also coming from a pro apb player (I ordered I have 4 keys to still use for the kttc event), I've done my homework. For the amount of delays this game has faced it isn't living up to much small map's, I wasn't expecting a GTA style world size with it being online but I was expecting a decent size world, perhaps GTA 3 size or a little smaller. The fact that there are only 2...................I'm just hoping for a patch in the future that will add another map or 2 but thats optimisim I have a feeling i'll need to dish out more cash for these maps and I bet they'll be the same size. Gun's idk about yet I have an odd feeling there will be nerf...opps i meant balancing. Don't even get me started on the missions were there is aggravated combat (I think that's what it was called basically its an allowed in game wall hack. No i don't know all the details I just saw a video on beta were looked like a wall hack and was correct for my assumption...still doesn't defeat the point that you can at times follow players through walls awesome.
Also the KttC keys aren't 10 hours, its 5 hours and nothing will ever be on topic, sure if you want to try the game you have a day left for FREE! however you're limited in the weapons you can use. Also anything you post other will give their point of opinion. The game has its flaws are they're very noticeable it won't stop me from getting the game and I'll play it just no hardcore. It's more of a I just want to take a break from other games I play for a little while thing, that is if I can ever find the will to enter the game world again lately i've seen the icon on my desktop and scuffed at it and played bubble spinner.
Edit: Okay i was wrong about the 5 hrs apparently it is now 10 hrs....I feel even more robbed hope they up the pre-laucnh hours as well.
