Head to Kashyyk, setup a trap. When a Wookie gets close to it, jump out and tackle him while screaming "Look out!" as your trap springs. Immediately tell the Wookie how lucky he is you were coming by ( tell him this quickly before he rips you to shreds ).

Congratulations, you now have a Wookie via Life Debt.

Ugh, could you imagine being in a group full of wookies while a dialogue sequence is going? It would be like the Star Wars Christmas Special all over again.

    Heh

You guys are on the canon trip again about things. As someone that has read 1 EU novel(early 80s era), and a few of the Marvel SW comics....I always felt this stuff was garbage. Thus I didnt follow it.

Which I am sure there are other folks like me out there that will end up playing. We wont care if this lore doesnt match or that one doesnt....it will be all about having a good game.

Sometimes it is funny to watch you guys argue, and some things I understand. Other times though it just goes beyond.

Methinks this worrying about what era a race is most found outside their native world is one of those times folks need to chill.

First of all, let me say that if those are all you've read then you have been missing out. Star Wars EU is a really great part of the universe and those introductions you had to it were rubbish unfortunately.

That being said, it's not about us worrying that Wookiees shouldn't be in because of canon as much as saying that George Lucas won't allow it. Some people are arguing over canon, but at least I'm just trying to be realistic about what will be in the game.

as companion it may be a succes. like your own chewbacca.

Wookies, during TOR are all pretty much enslaved.  Kashyyk was just under czerka control until KOTOR1 where you liberate the planet and the only wookiee that left afterwards is Mission's Wookiee.  So, I would wager that the free wooks are probably trying to clear out Kashyyyk and figure out how to free some of their brethren etc for the near future.  During the movies off kash the only one you came across was Chewbacca, I dont think there was a 2nd wookie even in the cantina.

I wager alliance smuggler will have one for a companion, just because they are going for that "iconic" thing.... God I hate that word so much lol.

Next Lucas put his foot down no wookiee jedi in official canon.

Whats wrong with a Wookie force user?

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lowbacca

Lowbacca or "Lowie" was a Wookiee Jedi Knight during the Yuuzhan Vong War. He was the nephew of Chewbacca, the son of Kallabow and Mahraccor, and the brother of Sirrakuk. He studied at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum and was a companion of Jaina SoloJacen Solo and Tenel Ka. He wielded a bronze-bladed lightsaber.

Goerge Lucas has gone on record as stating that there will never be any more Wookiee Jedi in canon. He says that it is extrememly rare and I think the canon officials say there is one born ever 100 years or so.

Yes but for one we are dealing with a time where the force was far more common and secondly we can't exactly be going by G ot T canon, at most we are looking at C (continuity) or S (secondary) canon considering this is supposed to be a long time before even the clone wars. The farther back the IP tends to go the greater number of force users you find.

    A few points:

    1. My main reasoning for there being no wookiees is voice-overs. I was pointing out the canon of Wookiee Jedi to help people understand why there is one, even though Lucas has said there won't be.

    2. We will be C-Canon. S-Canon is for very, very loose things like Marvel Comics from back in the 70s. All video games have been C-Canon.

    3. Lucas' statement was in response to a C-Canon character and he has disallowed it in other C-Canon games.

I am pretty sure, like 99% sure, that BioWares KoTOR became official canon.  Hell if I remember right LA had even given the parameters for players to play through the story in such a way that you could experience what Lucas had accepted into the fold of "canon" for his universe.  I suspect the major plot points that will be shared across sith/republic in TOR will all be canon events, same with any expansions.  But, we will see.

Here is a quick rundown on how "official" canon works:

G-Canon: This is for the movies and the things George Lucas specifically says (like Wookiees not being Force capable). In terms of canon this overrides all of the others.

T-Canon: This is used for the TV shows.

C-Canon: This is used for the majority of EU stuff. Books, Comics, Video Games, etc.

S-Canon: This is for a few misc. sources like the Marvel comics.

N-Canon: This is for non-canon things like the Star Wars Tales comics.

Each level of canon overrides those that are below it. Now for a video game where there is a light-side and dark-side ending to the game it has thusfar been the stance of Lucas that the light-side ending would be canon. What this means is that the light-side ending is the C-Canon way the game happened. The other endings are considered N-Canon. In addition in KotOR 1 and 2 the gender of the player was chosen as C-Canon. In 1 the player is male and 2 the player is female. This again is the C-Canon, while the opposite choices would be N-Canon.

So, yes, KotOR is official canon if done a certain way. However, it is still C-Canon as far as I have been able to find.

Well, see, the problem with good ol' George's "canon" there about Wookies is that it's fundamentally flawed.

It's quite apparent that midichlorians are just renamed mitochondria. EVERY living being has mitochondria ( midichlorians ), without the symbiotes co-existing with us we would all die immediately. Midichlorians being the determining factor of being "force sensitive" or not is based on research done in the last decade showing that mitochondria can possibly influence a persons "extrasensory" capabilities ( anyone who ever played the Parasite Eve games would be familiar with this concept, as that game was based on preliminary research into mitochondria by Japanese scientists ).

So just as mitochondria are found in every living being, and every living being has the propensity for obtaining extrasensory gifts,  any living being in the Star Wars universe would also have the propensity to become "Force sensitive", including Wookies. What we have here is soley Lucas playing God in his own universe ( which he has every right to do, of course ).

He's basically saying "Yep, I've decided that everything works in Star Wars the same way it works in real life. Unless you're a Wookie.".

Mitochondria is just a cell's organ that acts like a stomach full of chemical energy (well, more like a bladder shaped like intestine). It's a fuel source, and not a different entity, though it could be argued that it lives symbiotically with the other organelle inside cells.

What I find funny is that Wookies are practically naked, and not a single prude has sued over their children's exposure to it.

If they did add Wooks at some point they would have to disallow them going sith, it's just an impossible outcome as their culture would completely disallow it, and I'm not even sure they are force sensitive since their origins are explained as being a bioengineered caretaker for the plaent Kashyyyk. They don't have any..... *urk*... midiclorians...

Noone screamed at Thundercats either, and Cheetara was nude most of the time. And there was alot more to admire there than a walking carpet.

In my interview with Bioware's Jake Neri at E3 I asked about this and was told it wasn't necessarily true that Wookiees wouldn't be playable in SW:TOR due to the fact they can't speak Basic. Just tossin' that out there. ;)

Not sure about the Jedi issue, however In my research I was never able to find a verifiable source that confirmed that Lucas decreed Wookiees couldn't be Jedi. Then again, this might not stop them from putting them into the game even if it were true. As I mentioned in our SW:TOR hands on, Bioware's Lead Writer Daniel Erickson answered that Chiss aren't actually prevalent in the galaxy when I asked how they are making sense of an extremely isolationist species such as the Chiss being playable in SW:TOR. This could imply that races could be faction or even class specific.

Stay tuned for our full interview next week.

if wookies were playable they would have very limited class choices .. maybe trooper or bounty hunter .. i don't really see them as being very stealthy to play smugglers or imperial agents and they're traditionaly not force sensitive.

there was however a wookie bounty hunter in Kotor 2 on Nar Shadaa so i don't think that would be too much of a stretch

Couldn't agree more. I kinda find it annoying when they speak... At first it was funny, but now, since everyone seems to love wookies, the voice is overdone and can be irritating especially when you're not in a good mood.

At the very least you would think Wookies would need to be flea dipped and spayed/neutered.

Dont need any puddles of piddle, on your ship, due to one marking it's territory. :P
