Movie?

Why doesn't Bioware make a movie?

I understand that the company is based on making games. But think about it.

1) Bioware=Awesome Story

2) The trailers that came out so far were exciting and pretty awesome

I'm probably one of those people who just get wet.

While it's not likely, I suppose it's not totally out of the question.

Kinda like Clone Wars movie... They were set up to do the TV show, had the worlds and characters modelled, and pretty much said "Hey guys, anyone wanna make a movie?"

Bioware didn't make the video, they hire a CG company to do it.

Ever wonder why it isn't ILM who they hire? :)

Yeah, because entertainment these days is chock full of great storytellers. BioWare will fit right in.

OP - I'm sure they could make a movie, but I don't think they want to. They'd rather make games which last far longer than a movie does.

Hmm, though their stories are good for games, I don't think so. Interactive storytelling by its very nature does not have the same dramatic meat as straight narrative fiction where every single bit adds to the overall dramatic arc or subtext. I did enjoy KOTOR a lot and I think it's masterful interactive storytelling, but I think it'd make a pretty mediocre movie.

Of course that doesn't mean the Bioware writers can't write solid non-interactive fiction if they have a go at it, just that being good at one does not mean you'd be good at the other. If I recall correctly they themselves said on several occasions that the two are totally different beasts and when they tried to work with professional fiction or screenplay writers, they had difficulties - because the pro fiction writers would have a hard time adapting to the logic of interactive storytelling as it goes against everything they normally pay attention to in storytelling.

Still I'm sure they can do better than Michael Bay movies. :)

But Bioware didn't make the trailer. It was made by Blur Studios. They also make the cut0scene trailers for World of Warcraft incidentally.
