Decided to try the trial

After downloading the client (wasn't so bad, maybe an hour and 30 minutes), I started up DF and was graced with a lovely patching process.  I know they just put out a new patch, but from what I can tell the size of the patch I'm currently downloading is 10gb approx.  Is that normal, or does that mean the client from the official site is that old?

    I am also trying the trial, and I had to go through that too.  It was funny how the site said to download the game first before signing up.  But you couldnt get pass the login part to actually download it.

    It does lol, the client download was only 7gb altogether.  It really shouldn't take that much to download, and with the patcher dropping to 0kb/s off and on, it's going to be a long wait before I actually get to play.  Worth the wait, I'm hoping :)

    You can download the entire game via torrent and install through that, then start your account and everything is up to date. Just requires a little common sense.

    The 7gb torrent download IS the game client.

    If you're patching 10gbs, you're redownloading the whole game.

    I realize that; after repairing the installation everything seems to work fine...other than the error 21 I keep getting when patching, but at least that's a common problem.

    Damn I agree.

    7gb for the game, now 10219225 KB for the patch.

     

    I already low on HD space. only 4 GB left.

    just checked 263 meg patch for me. . maybe there is a second.

    dag only 1.5 GB left of HD space.

     

    Had to delete Warhammer and RoM
