Intel Quad Core around the 2.8-3.2 range
    6-8gigs of ram
    470gtx

That would be a good start.

Why would anyone suggest a GTX470 instead of the HD5850 or HD5870?

    4 years in the future.

I have had to replace ATI cards 3 times. I have never had to do that with an Nvidia card.

I have had to replace ATI cards 3 times. I have never had to do that with an Nvidia card.

I've had to replace an Asus motherboard twice; I've never had to do that with a Biostar motherboard. Does that mean Biostar makes better motherboards than Asus? Of course it doesn't. My case is nothing but a single case, nothing but anecdotal evidence, which is why I know that it doesn't represent the reliability of these brands as a whole.

You're one person; what you have or haven't had to replace from brand X or Y is pretty irrelevant to the relative relability of Ati or Nvidia GPUs. This is nothing but an example of the Law of Large Numbers. If millions of people buy Nvidia and Ati GPUs, eventually, even with low failure rates, someone is going to end up having to replace either or several times in a row. I've known people who have given the same story with Nvidia GPUs, and I've told them the same thing.

Now, with that aside, the Radeon HD 5000 series is vastly superior to Nvidia's GPUs. They offer the same performance per dollar, but absolutely vastly superior performance per watt. If one has a choice between the GPU that's going to run hot and consume loads of juice (and stress my PSU that much rmore), or the one that's going to run cool and sip lightly on power, picking the former is just plain dumb, frankly. Nvidia took a technologically inferior product, and simply crammed more and more and more transistors into it until they brute forced it to match the performance of the Radeon HD 5000 series cards. It's sad; it makes for a sad product, and I think it's a no brainer to not suggest getting one.

I'm sorry you've been the statistical outlier on GPU replacements (really, I am), but keep in mind that it's still just that: a statistical outlier.

Ohh for the system it probably won't need to be that high for modern technology.  I would say a Quad Core of 2.4GHZ, 4 gigs of ram, and a GTS250 or better should be sufficient to run it on good or the best settings.

Video cards can often be confusing on there numbering so what that means is any of the following cards:

    • AMD HD5970

    • nVidia GTX 295

    • nVidia GTX480

    • AMD HD4870x2

    • AMD HD5870

    • nVidia GTX470

    • AMD HD4850x2

    • nVidia 9800GX2

    • nVidia GTX285

    • AMD HD5830

    • AMD HD4890

    • nVidia GTX460

    • nVidia GTX275

    • AMD HD3870x2

    • AMD HD4870

    • AMD HD5770

    • nVidia GTX260 Core 216

    • AMD HD4860

    • nVidia GTX260

    • AMD HD5750

    • AMD HD4850

    • nVidia GTX250

bargin or have i just bought a pile of crap ! lol

  • CleffyCleffy Member RarePosts: 6,414

You won't know until a day after you have it operational if it was a pile of crap or if the person was selling a good system.  Thats the problem with used products.  If it is functional for a day then you got a pretty good bargain as that system will cost twice as much to build.  It seems more like the guy is getting rid of it either for quick cash or to upgrade to a newer machine.

Don't know the specs, but the main site for the game will probally have that info when its alittle closer. You can not transfer your character over either, they have already said that for sure. It takes place in a new realm and all the races are now called different things as there not considered to be humes mithran or galkas anymore.
