a 3 faction RvR mmo. Would you try it or would your WoW hate influence your decission to try the game?

Half the people would go on forum posting spree about how Blizzard's new MMO is a clone of itself.

Petitions would be made to remove 3rd faction, and at the same time to add 4th another one.

Well, the game would be polished, sell millions of copies, win 'game of the year' from most critics...and still be hated on by this community.

boy I love "and......" threads to bring me into a WoW discusion

Interesting question but biased choice of words.

Me, if this would be the next MMO Blizzard was working on I'd see what the Blizzard folks were saying about it, what features and world theme it will have, wait for the videos and demos to arrive and based on that decide whether I find it something that got my interest.

Alternative question for another OP maybe: what if another good company like Bioware or Rockstar or another great one made a 3 faction RvR MMO and you're a WoW fan, would you still try it or would your WoW fan-ism influence your decision, saying that "it doesn't have WoW's features", or "it is too much like WoW" or "if Blizzard doesn't make it, it will never be that good and polished and always be niche" ?

I will buy any game Bioware or Blizzard makes because they havn't failed me yet.

It would suck like the rest of the games like that.

Blizzard already won the lottery, now they will come down crashing no matter what they'll do.

I'm just as piss off as the rest of you on how Blizzard changed the MMO market forever making 90% of all MMO Dev. scared to dump money to make a proper MMO game because failure means death, Blizzard set the standards about 50 levels above the MMO of Its time making Blizzard hard to compete with.

Polish, content, fun and easy for everyone to get into made Blizzard what It is today, lots of change from the MMO of Its time but still alot alike giveing It that MMO feel some for the good and some the bad, but to discredit Blizzard for making anything fail is a lie, deep down no matter how much Blizzard robbed you of your MMO joys no one with half a brain can say Blizzard doesn't Deliver as a company, everything they made to date has smashed records and changed the gaming world in every market they touch, from RTS,to MMO

They did well, but WoW is a one trick pony. They don't have what it takes to replicate it, simply because it's not possible.

    most likely I wouldn't

It isnt that I dont trust Blizzard, Im sure if they wanted they would make one of the bests RvRvR games out there.

the problem is that they are tied to their own success, so they sure wouldnt make that game a game for PvPers (niche market)

they would feel forced to accomodate all their playerbase (read: 97% PvE playerbase mostly formed by annoying brats) in a PvP game....

and how do you do that? changing the tastes of 11m people? no, changing the PvP game so it was digestible by that crowd

a PvP game that the average WoW player would enjoy? words cannot express the horror I feel at the idea....

    tldr version;

I'd never play a RvR game that caters to WoW's playerbase, and I doubt Blizzard would be willing to make a real pvp game (niche by default) on purpose.

Ask any developer you want, they will say that game designer shouldn't act based on player's opinions, but managers think that if you do anything the clients ask you will increase profit so they screw the game (WAR).

Anyway, i loved WoW at start but now i could play the game that has become.

Hopefully nothing of these will matter since they are trying to change the genre itself. So i guess it won't be restraint to traditional gameplay.

Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, said that it will target broader audience, so i expect a lot of casual and social stuff, hopefully it will have a lot of stuff for hardcore players as well.

Anyway, certainly i will try it, unless i'm greatly disappointed by then.

And some people will love and eat at McDonalds their entire lives..  If Blizz made another MMO.. it most likely will be similar to their current game.. "meaning"  it will be very casual friendly thru leveling, then end game will be RAID grind..  Some people like that mechanic, some of us don't.. and some just don't know any better..

No way it could be the best MMO ever created I'd still refusing playing it because everyone knows how this would turn out:

    1. cash shop + monthly fee

    2. e-z mode

    3. every patch feels like relearning your class again

    4. worst possible community

    5. $$$$ instead of quality

    5. no consequences: FFA

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

I did not need to read any further in the thread.  Sorry to anybody else that might have posted something meaningful or anything like that, but c'mon - this was pure WIN.  Still laughing... thanks for posting this.  Kudos...

It's really funny seeing a community despise a game company that's accomplished so much, even BEFORE WoW was even developed, and yes, im referring to both Starcraft 1/Broodwar, Warcraft 3, AND Diablo 1 and 2.

Generally speaking though, you do not see people complaining about those games do you?  You see them complaining about what Blizzard has done lately...hrmmm, which might make sense.

Heck, there are people complaining about SC2.  Again, what Blizzard has done lately - not living in the past of what they did very well previously...

First of all there is no real WOW hate, that is just a game,it is Blzzard who i don't think much of ,because ALL their games are designed with CHEAP in mind, trying to sell low budget gaming to people and pretending it is AAA quality.

As far as a 3 faction RvR,the answer is NO,because i beleive to make the game any good at all it should be closer to 6,which means at least 6 races one for each realm. If you are even more adventurous in game design, then go for 2 races per and still 6  realms for a total of 12 races.

The problem is MOST of these developers take the cheap/easy route and even try to pull off 2 realms with an added NPC realm, and it appears that they have MANY gamers fooled into supporting that cheap effort.

I am not stupid ,i know what it takes to make a good game and i know what kind of effort these deves are putting into their game,i will not support a B/C effort by paying AAA prices.

So you know ,i have no real hate for any developer,i ALWAYS give them all a fair chance to show me what they got,i WOULD support a Blizzard RvR IF it had 6 realms and was done with some thought and effort.

There is a team within the team for EVERY aspect of a game, the world creation team is separate,so a game does not get credit JUST by having a nice looking world or a nice character creation team,i expect EFFORT from EVERY part of the team, including textures, shadows, props, particle effects, animations, armour, weapons, combat system, crafting ect ect ect.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

This WAS Blizzard pre Vivendi and maybe more important pre Activision. How many of those guys are still on board? Not even and handful!

Yes Blizzard used to create outstanding games such as Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft but just look at D 3 and SC 2 they have already no problem pissing of the ones who played these games for years and made the former Blizzard what it is today.

    Diablo 3:

    - auto "carebear" stats instead of custom stats

    - no death penalties

    - comic look

    - no very diabloesque at all

    Starcraft 2:

    - no LAN -> killing fanparties

    - no playing against oversea players without rebuying the game

    - forcing people to join battlenet

    - full priced 30 % of a game

This is not the great Blizzard you know its the greedy kotick'd one with no passion for gamers just for shareholders. You can also look at WoW when was the last time Blizzard scrabbed something because of an early release? Never but now they do you know the "great new Blizzard" not the real great one or easy: ACTIVISIONblizzard

EA, Atari, Activision... need to stay away from the MMORPG market.

Sony can stay for the lulz...
