Ok so I have been looking all over for an MMORPG that meets several criteria.
The first is that level/gear influence on a character is limited. A max level character can't just wade into a group of noobs and blow them all away without effort if they find themselves in a pvp situation. A player can jump in and be useful to his max level guild mates from level one, especcially if they take the time to show him the ropes, but there is still things to strive for in the game like better weapons/armour or potentially vehicles or something that will give you an advantage. Just not a stop trying there is no possible way to win unless you grind for countless hours. You should be able to have fun while you level and not level in hopes of some fun at the end.
Secound is I want some involved combat. FPS or Zelda style combat would be ideal but I will settle for a fast pased and well done skill bar system like Guild Wars. Just nothing as mindless as Runescape or Wurm Online.
Last is a good economy. Non-combat activities you can take part in to advance yourself and your guild. But not crap like on WoW where you run around picking up items off dead enemies and banging on rocks randomly located in combat filled areas that go away after you hit them once. I want to be able to be a hardcore miner, trader, farmer or whatever this game offers. Idealy a system like Wurm Online if any of you have ever played that with very detailed construction that makes producing items even more of a challenge than gathering their raw resources so well made tool is worth far more than a cart full or ore,and you can work one fertile plot of land for a long time for a whole ton of resources.
Id love to see anything that fits the bill but my last thing I would like a game without predetermined factions. I like forming my own group and alliances and choosing my enemies based off how I feel about that specific group of players and their actions. Not have who I fight predetermined by some choice I made before I even started playing. So I can live without this but if you happen to know a game that meets this criteria as well as the others you are my new favorite person.
I know its a large bill but I am not asking for incredible graphics, and I am willing to pay for a worthy gaming experince.

I'd be interested in finding something like this too. One game that has a lot of these features you listed is Darkfall, however it is a bit difficult to master interface-wise (at least for me O_O) and you might have technical difficulties running it (I'm unable to play as it crashes my internet). So do look into it.

Someone once said that dwarves are short, hairy, smelly drunks. @!$# them!!!!!!
Darkfall has a huge vet vs. newb disparity. I've seen one guy wipe out my entire guild (well those who were online at the time, like 5 people) who were not newbs at all. And there are a lot of overpowered characters like this running around in newbie areas ruining the game for them.

Take a look at Mortal Online
Uh huh...
non-grindy: Agreed. It's hard to grind empty space and flying pigs.
skill-based combat: Don't you mean "macro-based combat"?
good economy: What economy?
No, what I meant was "I haven't played it, heard good things about it, maybe they should do the leg work themselves, see if they like it."
Ah, OK. I thought you might be recommending a game you've never played.
