LOLOL, umm, no, 2 of those are RTS and one is just multiplayer roleplay. Ummm, and to add to that, when I was mmo'ing when it was new 56k was an UPGRADE for me.

Oh yeah? I was playing LORD and Tradewars on BBSs and MUDing back when the laptop I was using weighed more than my entire desktop does now (19" Monitor included), didn't have a hard drive, only had 2 5.25 floppy drives, one for running the "program" the other for saving stuff. The screen on it was made of the same stuff calculator screens are made of, you got ascii or text or nothing. It had a built in 900 baud modem, 56k wasn't even a dream yet, I was saving up for a nice new 1200 baud modem. ;)

The I remember building my first desktop unit.... MmMMmMMMmm it was a smoking new top of the line 386, god it flew...

Geez I feel old now... <hobbles off on his walker>

Lolol, if you wanna go there my first was this goofy little game made in ascii for the commodore 64 that was PvP. You had to pick which kinda gun you bought, all I remember was one shot 2 squares, one 4, and another 6, but ONLY those ranges. One was called a Poi gun I think.

Your toon was just a @ on the screen.

Yeah, I remember several games like that, there was a whole phase/fad/whatever of them there for a bit, talk about some hardcore graphics there... ;)

Hahaha. Me and my friend would play that sad thing all night long too.

Sadly though I never got into the PC scene until the 48 came out. I had a packard bell sx 25 with 6mb of ram and oh man was I da bomb. Everyone wanted my ram cause I had so much.

    UGH, now I feel old!

Ah geez, welcome to the old folks home! haha!

Well I didn't get into text MUD's or anything like that, at that time I was learning "basic" and had very little time to play games. I really got into the online rpg's back when the original Meridian 59 was on the market. I was hooked after that, and then I found Ultima Online, and forever sealed my doom. ::::08::

After I saw Wolfenstien 3D, I never went back to text games. ::::01::

I was a shy too late learning about MMO's for M59, I got into UO after about its 1st year release. Played that for about 3 years then went into EQ and AC.

I beta tested and played Meridian 59 until they started charging by the hour.

You also cant forget even before Meridian 59.. as far a graphical muds go... there was America Onlines (Yes I cringe when I type America Online but I was young and stupid then) Neverwinter Nights the original one that was Gold Box style and MMO that was insane. I loved that game.

  • ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

Charged by the hour? That seems rather suicidal as a business move.

Yeah it was insane. I dont know if they kept it that way, but thats why I stopped playing it. I guess really at that point there was no precident for how to charge for an MMO. AOL you had to pay by the hour in those days too.

if you were an original neverwinter nights fan you should check out forgotten world.  It is an almost exact replica of oNWN.  it has been made by a very small team of developers in there spare time.  and even though the graphics suck i still think it's the best mmorpg ever.

also there's a good oNWN nostalgia site....
