APB is boring

PieRadPieRad Member Posts: 1,108

First off... This is my opinion, I am in no way trying to get you to hate the game, or hold back your pre-order.

You should try the game yourself, and make your own opinion. This is just a post about mine.

I have been in beta since FF (Furious Fighters) got invited, I have logged 250+ hours across 3 characters, I have been playing alot, to say the least.

One could say, "Sure, you burned yourself out, no wonder it gets boring, everything gets boring if you spend too much time doing it." But this is claiming to be an mmo, other mmo's i've spend alot more than 250 hours in, and still not even close to get burned out. And that's a problem, cause which crowd will APB draw in? that's right, MMO gamers.. What does MMO gamers expect out of a game? you guessed it! Content.

What is the content in APB.

You group up, 1-4 people, you can either accept a mission, or a bounty. (Enforcer side)

Missions: Go x location and press "F" (F is the default key for interacting with the enviroment, like entering a car, raiding a door, defusing bomb, planting bomb, etc etc).

Now at some point in this mission, another group of the opposit faction might choose to accept a mission to interfere with yours, this is where the PvP happens, they'll try to stop you from doing your mission, if they succeed they win, if you complete all your objectives, you win.

Bounties: As criminals get their notority up the more likely they are to get *APB'd, now when you accept a bounty mission it's either:

a) Interfere with criminals mission

b) *APB'ing a criminal: Hunt the criminal/s down and kill them x amount of times, or kill VIP x amount of times (VIP will be the leader of the crim group you're up against).

**Everytime you get up against another group it's APB, but crims like to refer to being APB'd when enforcers come after them outside of chosen missions.

Things you can do:

Criminal: Steal cars, mug pedestrians, ram shops.

Enforcer: Turn in stolen vehicles, turn in stolen goods, arresting criminals (Arresting can only happen if you're up against the criminal, in mission or bounty)

Then there is social district, the editors have their limitations, but with enough practise you can pretty much do anything you want in them, this is good, but you can only spend so much time editing symbols before that gets boring too.

Lvl system:

Criminals have 2 factions they can go to:

- G-kings

- Bloodrose

Enforcer have 2 factions too:

- Pretorians

- Tigers

You'll start out with bottom tier contact in both factions, you wont have to choose 1 over the other, you will always be able to work for both by switching to a contact who represent the other faction.

    6. tier

5a. and 5b. tier

4a. and 4b. tier

3a. and 3b. tier

2a. and 2b. tier

      1. tier

Now getting 1. guy to lvl 3 (max is 6) will unlock 2a and 2b, getting 2a to lvl 3, will unlock 3a and 2b to lvl 3 unlocks 3b etc etc.

You will need minimum of lvl 3 in all to unlock 6th tier, (the boss) of the faction.

Lvl'ing these consist of missions and bounties. go there press "F", then go another place press "F", get apb'd fight a bit, win or lose.

Obviously you get more standing with a contact for winning.

Besides the lvl of the contacts, you'll also have a lvl with the factions. The higher the lvl with the faction the more weapons decals, symbols etc you unlock.

Last thing is "Roles"

Criminal Roles: Car thief (self explainatory) among others.

Enforcer Roles: Defender (Arresting criminals) among others.

For example, as you level up defender, you will get access to better "Less than Lethal weapons"

Well i could mention league rewards, which rewards players for having the highest K/D of the day, or most arrest, longest kill streak, highest mission win streak etc etc.

These leages have VERY valuable rewards, upgrades for weapons which can not be attained in any other way, except for buying them on the market place, and let me add, not for cheap.

Furthermore, these leagues gets exploited like hell... There was one incident with a guy gaming for 18 hours straight to win most arrests, and in the last 4 hours before the leagues reset exploiters caught up to him and beat him with 60+ arrests.

I dont know many who will find the game fun to play, knowing that league rewards will never ever be available to the hardcore player, and don't even think about it if you're casual, lol.

You can take what you want from this, all, some or nothing, i don't really care.

My advise is to wait a month after release, when the "omg, this game is pure awesome!" posts stops, and see what people post then.

And if you still want to give it a go, then go for it.

Peace.

I am not sure that this game really is an MMO, possibly some kind of hybrid.

But, yes. They will have to add a lot more things to do if this game is going to live long.

I am not really surprised of that, online games usually launch without enough options and patch them in later. Still, the game do have some potential.

I pre-ordered the game and got my KttC, Played for five hours and then cancelled my pre-order.

In theory the game was good but in practise I found myself being jumped by superior criminals, 99% of the time my missions failed unless i happened to be ganged with a good group, but then we would end up getting APB'ed as we hit rank 5 during missions.

In 5 hours I only completed a single mission, I would find myself getting 1 shotted by criminals despite me emptying and entire clip into the crims centre mass., my cars would also just go poof from a handgun yet my guns would barely scratch it.

Going up against grenade wielding crims on your first proper 'Mission' was just insane

I actually agree lol. With the way the game is setup it's in a fairly unique situation. It can provide gameplay for so many types of players it's not funny due to the district setup.

One district for racing, one for FFA PvP, one for clan vs. clan style PvP, one for a zombie survival type of play, one for a cops vs. robbers missionesque type of district.

I mean.... APB is looking like it will shape up to be one of the most unique MMO's to have hit the shelve's appealing to casuals, hardcore's and who knows lol.

It's almost in a situation where it could give everyone w/e they want without killing the experience of others and infringing on what they want lol. Not saying it will be that way, but closer to appealing to more player types than just about any other MMO. This one may actually bring a fair amount of non MMO gamers into MMO's.

Cops vs criminal is for fan service purpose. APB is nothing like we see in real life or movies. Thats why i hate that game.

Dude... Chaos Servers... that's the only reason I'll be checking this game out. I expect huge wars to break out between the two sides on Chaos Servers.

    I'm free on Friday.

I have over 800 hours in tf2 and growing, many people have 3000+ hours and on top of that its $20 (As low as $5 when its on sale) with NO MONTHLY FEE and constant updates.

OMG lol. At 7:30, the guy dont even know what he is fucking talking about. The question was if a player would be able to play like a lone wolf. Alone and do what ever he want. The guy responded, yeah, there will be 1 vs 1 mission but it wont be better then group mission.

WTF man!!! All we want is lone wolf freedom. Not mission. We want to ride around the city alone killing everything taht move without restriction like not being able to kill players in grey.

I still play GTA4 online because the freedom you have make it being really addictive. APB is nothing like that in a negative way.

Though I've seen a lot of marketing in the MMO realm (one is ticking to my left right now), I'd think GTAers and Shooter fans will be the bread and butter of this game- the ones that actually keep it going. It will take an initial hit of MMO players, but I'd wager they will fall off fairly quickly given my own personal history and what I've read of others.

Admittedly, it wasn't the MMO fan in me that had even a small bit of interest in this- it was the fan of original top-down GTA and Team Fortress.

I've also noticed a lot of people on my steam account pre-ordering, and they aren't MMOers.

My biggest turn-offs (eww, like anyone wants to hear those) about this game are lack of an accurate shooting system (headshots), VOIP, and the likely rampant aimbotters which are sure to spoil the fun.

    Peace.

Let me get this straight.  Outside of Beta, players get 60 free hours of action disctrict game-play.  10 kttc +50 launch.

At 2-hours a day, lets call it a month of free game-play.  I've played most single-player games for less than that, yet you played 250 hours.  I'd probably be bored to if I played my third-person-shooter for 5-months straight.

    And peace be with you.

Hey mate he just said no...

For them this is Multiplayer game..so  for them fun comes with multiplayer interaction....This is their Focus....

Objective based mission add dynamic to game.

but: right now you can go for wanted list and they are free for all to shoot, and according to whot he said CHAOS add on will give you Open world PvP districts which s wot you want it seems.....

(Realbigdeal) All we want is lone wolf freedom. -no WE dont want that, i like group centered game play, Lone wolf campers would just spoil fun...Like in MAG when idiots with sniper  rifle spend all day looking for head  shots 2 foot from res area taking slots for useful players, I can bet that at free PvP you would have 20 idiots with sniper rifles around precincts and such, I mean that could be fun fo while (for targets not snipers) , or i want a freedom to choose that kind of experience which they promised in CHAOS

Personally I'm nto a fan of the game, jsut as many here are not fans of straight MMORPGs.But I hope APB does well because the MMO market needs more diversity of genres instead of being dominated solely by the RPG one.

    BTW i just remebered that

My all time favorite shooter Quake had one hit box as well.....iam old and sentimental

It took me 3 hours to come to the same conclusion, OP.  I figured the game would open up...but it really doesn't.  It is amazingly repetitive.

Same here.  I think you need to really love PvP just for PvP's sake to like APB.  Otherwise, it just seems to take repetitive to a whole new level in the world of MMOs.  I don't know how anyone could stand to play it for 250 hours, nevermind only then complain that it gets boring.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
