One word: NCSoft. NCSoft has got to be the worst company I've seen when it comes to customer service and concern for their customer base.
Folks can say 'I feel like just a number' in respect to a whole host of companies but, in my experience, NCSoft takes the cake. I've had terrible experiences with Alienware, having to stay on their back for 9 months just to get a laptop that works and finally, after two shipped-to-me-broken laptops and two repairs-that-were-not-repairs, I actually received a refund: 9 months later after nearly 100 e-mails and who knows how many hours on the phone. Blizzard is...Blizzard. With Verizon Wireless I actually had to remind them to check their inventories after sending back two phones that didn't work because they billed me for them without bothering to check said inventories.
Well even tho I know NCsoft has tarnished its name on same games, you probably never played GUILD WARS...the only thing they did (maybe wrong since its B2P) is the need for you to name you char name to play(more sec you know) - but no problems with hacking/stealing etc(still I may be wrong..Im quite new to this topic)
Now GW had NEVER problems (as long as I know) with support or whatever...
And theres games like Aion or Lineages...you should check your data sir...
It's like saying BW games sucks since they are under EA...meh thats one of the worst arguments eva

No major hacking problems with guild wars as far as I know... though there was plenty of gold selling, account trades, and farming going on. ANET let it run rampant for a while there, but the cracked down on it.. more recently then when prophecies first launched. Nothing in comparison to the other NCSoft titles though (minus CoX they rarely if ever had any of those problems)

Yeah, Anet just banned around 3700 accounts for things like that. I think they did that so they could show people that they're not going to tolerate those things in GW2. And on the NCsoft thing, I agree that they're customer service is bad (waited 2 weeks to get the password of my NCsoft master account back) but I've never been hacked or things like that. The only thing I can say here is that I have experienced plenty of problems in Guild Wars about the time that NCSoft was putting more work into AION, sometime in 2008. I stopped playing GW for over a year and have come back to it, encountering some of the same issues. NCSoft support really is that bad, I feel for the people that work there. That said, Guild Wars really is a fantastic game because of what ArenaNet has done with it in spite of NCSoft.
I'll throw barbs at the company but I won't ignore the good things that they do: ArenaNet and the Guild Wars franchise.

I agree with what you are saying here, they're only the publishers...but. When we recall the AION debacle there is the real question of the company pushing the development staff to turn out something sooner since pre-order numbers are there. This, of course, is only a possibility but with NCSoft it may even be likely. As I've said before, NCSoft is a problem company because of their support and we can add to that all that 'support' entails. I'll leave this at that, though, because there really isn't anything substantial to add to the argument: if you've experienced problems with NCSoft you know, if you are lucky enough to have not experiened it then you don't know.

Major difference though is that NCSoft actually developed Aion from what I recall, they were both dev and pub, and were responsible for every detail of the game includings its customer support. In the past Arenanet has handled pretty much everything involving GW, including most of the support, and they seem to be sticking with that method for GW2 as well. Would be a pretty bad idea for NCSoft to step on the toes of the devs at Arenanet when theyve already done such a great job on their own and have such a large and loyal fanbase.
Everything I've seen thus far looks great, however I have ONE major gripe:
The voiceovers for the characters while fighting were awful, whoever wrote the scripts should be fired. If you watch the videos for the Enchanter for example he says "....and stay down!" after killing a foe. It just came off as really cliche, juvenile, and corny. Pretty much everything the characters said seemed to pander to a 10 year old. Maybe they could put a little wit in the voiceovers, perhaps some humor.
I've never liked the "card-based" skill system used in GW, and it seems they're persisting with a similar system in GW2.
I also didn't like the way that in GW they put you through a couple of levels of PVE (which I enjoyed by the way), and then seemed to change the entire game to a "collect-em-all" PVP lobby.
The original GW wasn't enough to pull me away from WOW. These days they don't need to be able to do that, they just need to be able to provide a half-decent game which is more fun than the F2P dross I download on a fortnightly basis in a vain attempt to keep myself entertained.
As the OP says GW2 looks great graphically. I'm also probably more interested in PVP than I was when GW released. If there is a decent amount of progression available I will probably be interested. If they manage to include some decent PVE I may even enjoy it. I'm also interested about the "PQ" system they announced (can't remember their lingo for it). Found it - Dynamic Event System.
Deep down I think I'm probably going to have the same reaction to GW2 as I did to GW. I'll buy it, play it a bit but lose interest as I'm just not interested in collecting cards. I want to have some investment in developing my character.

And the PQ system you're referring to is Dynamic Event System, which is very different than static PQs in WAR. As i said in another thread it seems the only thing they really have in common is they're both in the open world and can be joined / impacted by many people even those outside your own group. More can be read about it here if you havent yet: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/dynamic-events/dynamic-events-overview/
And also more for the PvE aspect you should enjoy:
I'm primarily a PvE player, so the PvP part of the original Guild Wars turned me. I don't know much about GW 2's PvP or ability to play with or without it, but what I've heard so far has me a lot more interested than I thought I would be.

Far be it from me to question a gripe, as that was the point of the thread - but could you possibly give an example of things that the characters might say?
Aside from "I'm on a roll!" after beating down 3 - 4 monsters? I mean don't get me wrong, I understand what your saying but truth be told - I think it fits in rather well with the character customization system that allegedly dictates how your character acts. So I guess if you answer the starting questions with juvenile replies, your character will have a juvenile personality.
But that is too much speculation, but based on what I've heard - that is kind of what I expect.
People think it's fun to pretend your a monster. Me I spend my life pretending I'm not. - Dexter Morgan
The game is supposed to be 100% soloabe and I think it will be good but yet another massively single player online roleplaying game. I'm disappointed in that because in the beginning when Guild Wars first released it was all about community working together to accomplish goals. Now I am not so sure of that.

I don't really get where an assumption like that comes from.
The only thing really focused on soloing is the Personal Story portion, which is well your personal storyline so makes sense for that to be soloable, however you can also group with others for it too. Also compared to GW1, there will be no NPC companions, which made things rather easy to solo since you didn't need other players when you already had help from NPCs.
The PvP is still team based arena PvP (5 v 5) as well as The Mists which will be everyone from 3 servers competing against the other servers for control of resources and objectives. Again very team oriented. I personally hope there will be some chance for soloers to have their fun in The Mists too, but i expect it will most likely require multiple parties of people working together to keep contol of the area and take out enemy groups. I suppose you could somehwat compare it to RvR areas in WAR and DAOC, but on steroids and against entire servers of people rather than a warband or 2 full of enemies from your own server.
Then with open world PvE you've got the Dynamic Event System, which while it does scale to the number of players, which means if you happen to be the only one there yeah you can solo it, but i dont think youll ever really run into that situation as everyone will be wanting to take part in the dynamic events. So basically even though you may be "solo" and not in a group, you will still be working alongside other players for a common goal.
So yes, they are making certain things able to do be done solo if you happen to have nobody to play with, but at the same time also very much encouraging grouping and working together. IMO it's a great way of doing things, it caters to both types of people very well, while also not forcing either style but instead putting in actual game features and mechanics that will make it more fun to group and work together.

Well you surely missed even the basic FAQ for GW2 !
The thing I really really love about GW2 is completing Dynamics without even being in the group with other players around you..you just come and help and then receive exp based on your help...it sounds really heroic and immersive*LOVE*...this is the thing I am so looking for in this game...oh and dynamics quest arent explaind via text (the well is poisoned, go kill ten rats) or VO, you just see them in the world - what else would you want;)
along with cross class combos
oh and the enviromental weapons too
oh and FULLY VOed personal story (in your face TOR )
oh and the trait system
oh and the chain skills, charge skills, positions skills
oh and mesmers (which WILL be announced :P )
GO GW2 go!:)))

Firstly, the dynamic event system is GREAT for getting people to play with one another.
Secondly, the criticism of simply *allowing* solo play is getting tiresome. You see it a lot on the TOR forum too. Not *forcing* people to group is the overwhelmingly popular option and there are good reasons for it.
I love to group when I am in the mood for it but so many times I have had awful experiences, especially with PUGs. The nice rewards are often there, but who cares about the rewards if the experience makes you want to leave the game?
More people will be more open to grouping and socialising when it becomes pleasant to do so. I don't know how this will happen but for sure shutting down solo play will just mean people play other games that do cater to soloists. I think Anet has shown good instincts in this aspect so far.
I am absolutely stoked for this game, but one of the main reasons I may not end up playing it as much as I would like is that crafting sounds like it's going to be completely boring like it was in GW. For me, and many others, crafting is a huge draw to MMOs, and to make it a weak afterthought in a game as rich as GW2 appears to be is just sad in my opinion.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Every dynamic quest will be a WAR PQ, thats just how it is. They talk about how they aren't as static as WARs PQs and to an extent you are right, but they all end up playing the same as WAR PQs. You kill the mobs that are present or complete the objective, then you either A) complete it and it regresses or you Fail and the objectives progress to the next stage.
They are very similar with the subtle change that you can't predict what stage of the PQ you come in at. Its a nice progression from what PQs were, but its not revolutionary by any means. Making it scalable to me is also kind of a small issue immersion wise. Whats the point of running the risk of failing an event as a group when you can come back or zone to a different map and complete it solo? The original PQs didn't just support grouping, they encouraged it by making it not possible to complete all of them without it.
I'm not knocking it in any sense of the word, but its good to have something salty with your sweet, it keeps people grounded which is what all gamers should be in regards to their next upcoming game.
And as for "in your face TOR" give credit where credits due, you won't find the level of story in GW2 that you will in TOR, voice-overs or no. (but definitely voice overs)
Every dynamic quest will be a WAR PQ, thats just how it is.
So you have played it? What are the other 6 classes?
No need to play it, its outlined in black and white. PQs are just open public quests that can pass or fail with rewards attached to it. Thats exactly what GW2 is offering and it is outlined as such. If you have something else to add that suggests the contrary I'd be happy to review it.
In the mean time, whether its a dragon, a band of orcs, or protecting little Susie from bears, if its a "dynamic event" its just a fancy way to say public quest. Public meaning open to all, and quest, meaning an "adventurous" exploit.

Vast over simplification as always. Man your entitled to your beliefs but are you just going to completely ignore the difference. Did PQ's scale? Did did different PQ's interact with each over? Were multiple PQ's layered on top of each other and occuring simultaneously? Did they all occur at different progressions to rarely produce the same scenario again? Did PQ's branch depending on when the player interacted. Did the effects of PQ's remain until another player had pushed them back.
Yeah... events are just PQ's with no variation.... Who exactly are you fooling here?

I really hope I'm pleasantly suprised.
Not sure really what you mean by the "card-based" system, but have you read through this: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/combat/traits-overview/
And also more for the PvE aspect you should enjoy:
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/personal-stories/personal-story-overview/
and something i just created a new thread about which is epic IMO: http://www.arena.net/blog/content-designer-matthew-medina-discusses-the-alphabet-of-guild-wars
I really don't think there is enough solid information about the game for me to form that kind of opinion...
I'm primarily a PvE player, so the PvP part of the original Guild Wars turned me. I don't know much about GW 2's PvP or ability to play with or without it, but what I've heard so far has me a lot more interested than I thought I would be.
parrotpholk-Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better.
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them
Firstly, the dynamic event system is GREAT for getting people to play with one another.
But the henchmen were always super cheesy! Was hilarious, though it grated just enough to make you want to play with humans, just as planned :P
<Welcome to my world>
Hah! I actually enjoyed the comments from the henchmen. In fact they usually talked more than actual players I've grouped with.
