Benchmark Results Question

ElliasEllias Member Posts: 52

Hey all -

I ran the benchmark tool on my PC and was a little disapointed with the results.

My HW:

Intel i7 920

6gig Ram

nVidia 250 x 2 SLI

Win Vista Premium 64bit

When running on highest I manage around 2000. However, when I run the benchmark, the CPUs barely seem to be touched and barely any additional memory is used?

When trying to understand the problem I updated the following to the latest:

Vid drivers

DirectX

Still the same result. Also I found it odd that only one GPU was recognized by the program even though the cards are in SLI (might be part of the issue?). The only other thing I can think of is finally getting off Vista and rolling to Win7. With my HW though, I feel like I should not 'have' to go this route.

Any of you experiancing the same issue? Or have any words of advice? I'm a bit disapointed in the results, but feel like the benchmark SW may be to blame? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

What will the recommended specifications for the finished Windows version be?

Tanaka: First we will announce specs for beta. Right now graphics boards, as opposed to CPUs, are causing bottlenecking, so we would like to optimize that more.

More than likely the Benchmark suffers from the same issue and hopefully we'll get an updated version once they fix this problem.  There is also this little bit of info:

Eorzeapedia: Will you be optimizing the FINAL FANTASY XIV client to take advantage of 4 or more cores for next generation processors with 64 bit architectures?

Tanaka: We will guarantee that it will work (in terms of the 64 bit technology). We don’t think it will have much benefit for the users, so we would like to stick to the 32 bit. It is compatible, but we will be using 32 bit. We are working very close with Intel for optimization.

Hey there, SLI and Xfire are disabled apparently.

As for the game itself I hear it will be multithreaded and the 2 GPU will be there sooner rather than later.

I wouldn't worry about the benchmark much at this point in time.

I'd suggest going route of PS3 with HDTV. In Japan the gaming market is mainly consoles, this is part of reason Blizzard games aren't popular there, so you can bet that SE have put a huge effort into the PS3 version...it the best way to go unless you have a powerful modern workstation of a PC, though yours should run the game, but at less than the highest settings for PC, I think. it is also worth bearing in mind that in many computing tasks the Cell processor may outperform an i7.
