Yesterday from the MO Community Manager:
Dear Community,
We will take down the forums tomorrow, Saturday June 26th 6pm GMT+2 for the long awaited overhaul.
We will basically restructure the entire forum - most of the sections will be moved into a customer forum which will be readable for everybody but only ppl with an active account will be able to post.
There will be a small, heavily moderated public section for ppl that are interested in the game (discussion, Q&A, etc).
We estimate a downtime of 5 hours max.

TL;DR - Prepare for possible tempswarm of MO players coming here for approx 5 hours, unprepared for a forum with tighter rules against swearing, flaming and trolling.
This assumes a large enough playerbase to constitute using the word "swarm".
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.
EAT ME MMORPG.com!
aww snap
Good point, since there are a mere 170 people on those forums at the moment.
No reason to go on the forums really, there's usually 400+ in irc around primetime however atleast you can talk about random topics there =D
Looks like they are down now.
As stated above, there's always the MO IRC, found here:

The official MO forum is back up:
First of all:
Welcome to the new forums!
As you can see we restructured most of the sections to make it more intuitive and easier to navigate.
We moved most of the earlier thread into the newly created Athenaeum Regails (the archives). As a registered user on the forums you can see these archives, link to them and search them - however you are unable to post in that section.
As you can also see we kept the most recent threads in most sections (top 1-2 pages), since those are actively being used at the moment.
As previously announced the reputation system has been disabled. In detail: you are no longer able to give reputation (positive or negative) to other forum users. However the reputation for time spent on the forums and postcount is still being counted.
You also got the ability to hide your reputation in your Control Panel.
Most users have been automatically set to the correct usergroup now and if you have an active subscription for Mortal Online (or are currently in your free month) you will be able to post in the customer sections and use the bugtracker.
For those of you who can't post in the customer section but DO have an active game account:
Log into your account. You will see a new option in the left side bar, "Forum Account". This is where you can manually link your game and your forum account.
Follow the instructions on the site please.
--------------------------------------------
What did not change?
We did not yet upgrade the forum software.
We did not yet include more plugins.
Because of the way the customer database and the forums are linked we did not update the forum software just yet. We will give it a bit until all (or close to all) customers have linked their accounts.
I will announce another (shorter) maintenance where we'll upgrade the software at a later date (approx. within 2 weeks).

Looks like it has better organization than before.

Why close down everything?
Looks like MMORPG.COM was able to weather the swarm...

Probably to hide the QQ and ragequit threads from the public of potential new players. Since the public section will be "heavily moderated" I doubt they will aloow any negative threads in there.
So they basically don't want any outside criticism. The 'customer' forum will be overrun with the typical fanboys, and the 'public' forum they acknowledge will be even more heavily moderated (already I've never seen a game forum crack down so hard on any and all negative criticism).
The lamest part is they didn't create a NEW customer forum, they convereted the old general forums into it. Meaning if you were in the middle of a discussion before, you can no longer post replies or defend your points or otherwise partake in a discussion you may have STARTED.
I think it's another lame move (in a long line of them). People who're on the fence about the game, waiting/hoping for changes and wanting to stay engaged via discussions, are now basically pushed to a holding pen for the 'public' which in most game forum equates to pointless noob questions and completely unengaging conversations.
Oh, but we'll be that much more likely to buy the game so we can participate in the 'real' discussions, right? Yeah, no. I'm pretty sure this is what SV are thinking, though, and why they decided to let the public SEE the forums but nothing more... reminds me of Hitler showing of concentration camps, elbowing the guests and saying 'see, see, nobody is complaining!' That's right, I went there.
I don't have a problem with forums where only customers can post. Non subscribers can still read the discussions just not participate. Yes the "Public" section will be heavilly moderated but really.. not a big difference there.
It will be interesting to see the actual level of forum participation in the Customer Only forums, particularly after the free month ends.

Another cheap shot at the game, try the game, if you like it stay. If you do not then go and perhapes try at a later date. Simple as that, flaming the game pointlessly adds no real value to the convosation nor does it help improve it.

Funny that mods now even lock such a threads as this one: http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/47716-worst-customer-service-ever-3.html , which brings up obvious issues about the volunteer GMs who are inexperinced and unprofessional.
Yeah, why would mods lock troll threads?
