If anything  FFXIV is going to be like Aion. RIft is a 100% Western production, it has very little to do with Aion, both gameplay wise and design wise.

Wait... what? You mean to tell me these are different games?

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

RIFT !  most Definitely a hell yes for me.

For my wife and i  its mainly between FFXIV and Rift .  If FFXIV is pretty much just like FFXI but better graphics and seamless world , but still very much group focused ( yes forced grouping) then we will play it for years to come . Same goes for Rift tho it could be hit or miss , it looks great and sounds great , as long as its mainly group play and takes a good long time to get to max level (4-6 months at least), so we can enjoy the content, then it could be a sure fire hit, but if its another quest grind or solo level game where we hit max level in a month or 2 then it will be passed over very quickly. As for Tera  i could be a realy fun game but its very very hit or miss imo.

I voted for Rift. While I will most likely be looking at TERA closely because of the combat system, the whole booty shaking going on for female casters is a constant reminder of Aion. =( I do hope TERA will be having a better westernization process (than Aion, of course), but I try not to fall in the same hole twice so to speak. Hopefully TERA has worked very heavily on how the hits register for ranged classes, it seems like a nightmare to get working properly.

Back to Rift, I feel they have a strong shot in today's market. I do understand they aren't revolutionizing combat like TERA, but at the moment I am pretty fine with how the current system works. Trion has a lot of experienced developers under their belt, and I really like how the entire company is set up. If they pull this off then they can easily be right up there with the "big boys".

As to FF, I never really was a big fan of it. Not to discredit them of course, it's just not my type of game.

    Hanlo out.

It's close between Rift and FFXIV.  I voted FFXIV, because I'm a fan of FFXI (still play off and on).  Rift does look cool.  I like the idea of how the "Public quests" or Rifts work.  The only thing I like about TERA is it's Monster Hunter-like combat (HUGE MH fan).  SE is one of the best, if not the best, developer of games imho.  So pretty much any game they have a hand in, I'll play.

I think all 3 will do quite well; each have intresting points and will appeal to a diffrent market. It seems we may finaly have a point where we have some real choice in MMOs in that several of the AAA MMOs under development now seem to be taking there own direction, which is a good thing imo.

As for me I will have to play some FFXIV (Im a huge FF fan) though I think Rift will likely be my new MMO home assuming any of the 3 hold me for long. I would be intrest in a poll to see who will be playing GW2, KOTOR, Rift, TERA or FFXIV though im sure some one has one; each of these games seem to have a lot of potental, they each seem to be well built at least from what I have gathered thus far and each seems to appeal to a slightly diffrent kind of gamer than the others for one reason or another.

If I had to choose one it would be TERA.

If I had to list them in order of best to worst:

    TERA

    Rift

    FFXIV

Lol "grindy/unbalanced pieces of crap" that is more or less a rather crude description of eastern tastes MMOs. Guess what FFXVI is an eastern tastes MMO, which like Tera will be a complete grind fest. Rift is an western tastes MMO being produced by Trion Worlds that have many experienced developers working on the game along with several financial monsters backing it with lots of money. FFXVI will have a cult following mostly of Final Fantasy fans. Tera likely is going the way of Aion losing majority of its western customers rather quickly. Rift has the money behind it to release as a finished polished product giving it the best chance to be successful in the market with its unique ideas than could possibly happen.

I played FFXI for a good number of years and it was my first MMORPG, so naturally I'm very excited for FFXIV. (voted for FFXIV)

I'd like to see a bit more about TERA also, but it isn't on the top of my list.

  • twstdstrangetwstdstrange Member Posts: 474

Out of those three, I would say all of them. Though, I'm not particularly enthralled in any of them. Just mildly interested.

I would say the game that really has my eye is The Secret World, due to it's sheer unique-factor.

Here's a video of FFXIV of its before(alpha) and after(beta) phases with a better look at combat towards the end....with someone at the controls who seems like they know what theyre doing :P

    combat is still 'meh' imo..

im gonna have to say im more excited for the new final fantasy over anything, just for the fact that ive grown up playing Final fantasy and what not, so it always has a place in my heart, just like the first Everquest, happened to be my first and most beloved MMO that i base everything off of.

And i tried to do the FFXI and found it fun but i started too late in the game when the servers were quite on the low side, and it was just too hard to catch up to people, lol.

PS - All mammals have nipples.

    Get over it already.

RIFT can claim that its classes are going to have so much depth but that don't mean crap if the combat is like Allods or WoW.

    Basically how I feel...

The reason TERA appeals the most to me is becuase it looks like it requires more twitch based skills...  Rift looks pretty cool, and I like the idea of gaining fallen warrior abilities.  It gives you more choices in how you want your char to be instead of being locked into a pre-defined class.

Not interested at all in FFXIV.  Don't like the looks of combat and it doesn't look to bring anything new or improve on what is already out there.

That's one of the reasons I don't like TERA.  The more twitch-based an MMORPG is, the more sensitive to lag the gameplay is.  This is magnified in PVP, which is a big element of TERA.  Even 250 MS is a huge, huge deal in a twitch game.

I enjoy skill in games, but I don't like it when that skill is strongly capped by my internet connection.

Dude, you need to tone down that signature, or they better be paying you for advertising.

Gotta love fanbois who hopelessly support and advertise games / products they've never even played through their giant signatures and equally giant sized fanaticism.  Gotta grasp and hang on to something I guess.  Oh well, the weak willed and easily impressionable will always exist, glad you like that in yourself at least.

You sound like a idiot. This is a shinning example of whats wrong with this site and its people like you who attack other users just because they like games that you dont like. Why are you so worried about my sig? What does it have to do with you? How do you know I have not played it? Maybe I just like what I see or have read about.  If you dont like Tera then fine but there are alot of users on this site that have sigs representing the games that they have intrest in. Show me a link to any rule that I am breaking. You have not contributed anything to the discussion on Topic. Just leave and let us continue to discuss about the games that we are looking forward to. This topic has been going really well and we would like to keep it that way.

    Rift
seems to offer more control over character builds and a more interesting class selection
and it seems they intend to update the game spontaneously in real-time and have random rift events thats why i voted rift

Guild Wars 2 is my religion

  • jezeraijezerai Member Posts: 7

RIFT for me i belive that will offer more at the end.

  • mesmerisemesmerise Member UncommonPosts: 200

Definitely Rift fom the above choices but that is because Guild Wars 2 is not present on OP's list. Between Rifts versus GW2, I am not sure that I can choose a favorite quite yet...However, since GW2 will have no subscription I can always play both when the time comes!

TERA mostly because it looks to be the one that won't suck out of the three.

    Necropost thread :/

I chose RIFT, quite intrested how this turns out, Closed Beta here I come :) Could be nothing special, if so then fortunatly there's more on the horizon.

TERA: I don't like that you can't change weapons in TERA, being stuck with a lance as a lancher, just not my thing. It would bug me out in the end. Also asian style human-facial designs don't really appeal to me, not sure why though. Might try it out, but next to all the other titles that are coming, TERA is quite low on my 2play list.

FFXIV: Tried the closed beta and the open beta, and to this game has nothing. Its the largest empty mmo ever to be released in my opinion. MMO's are timesinks, but FFXIV is just the biggest waste of time ever.
