If controls were designed with a Console Controller in mind...

... would it be worth it to spend some extra money on a decent PC Controller? IF the game will be playable with one?

Well in FFXI you could play with your playstation controler if you have one it will probably work like in the FF11 as the game is launching for the ps3 too ^^

I'm guessing a 360 controller is going work with PC Version for the game just fine... so you can always go that route.

im gonna use my ps3 or 360 controllers for this if controller is enabled. u can google some free downloads for the drivers of either. only catch is they have to be usb'd in. i haven't looked recently but i haven't found an app that uses they wireless feature for either.

I used a logitech pad that a previous poster talked about, and it worked great on FFXI. With FFXIV square is going to design it heavily for controller use since its a console game as well and the pc version will probably just need a little controller configuration then you are set.

There's a big difference currently between using the 360 controller and the PS3 controller on PC.

The XBox 360 controller is officially supported by Microsoft and it has official drivers you can download from Microsoft's website.  There are 2 ways you can get the 360 controller working on PC.

    1.  Buy a Microsoft XBox 360 wireless adapter for PC.  This allows you to use your existing wireless controllers on the PC with the official Microsoft download.

    2.  Buy an XBox 360 wired controller and plug that baby into your PC.

The PS3 controller uses Bluetooth and is not officially supported by Sony for use on the PC.  There are hacked drivers for the PC to use it wired by plugging the USB charging cable into your computer.  In my experience they never worked very well (or at all on Windows 7).  There are also bluetooth drivers for the PS3 controller, but I couldn't even get these to work on XP.

It would be cool if Square packaged PC drivers for the PS3 controller with the game when it ships, but if they don't, the XBox 360 controller works way better on PC.

(Or you could always just buy a $15 Logitech PC gamepad)

Awesome info guys. I'll definitely wait a few of days after release to see how the game goes with different controllers, etc. So now I know to set aside a few bucks extra just incase.

I really hope this game will have normal mmo standard controls and not be like the last final fantasy game. Id rather not play a game on my pc with a controller, i dont care for it much. I prefer normal mmo controls.

I used a saitek controller exclusively for FFXI back in the day, so maybe.

This totally reminds me to pull it out and create a setting for Dungeon Fighter.

I expect this game to have controls that are well-suited for the PC, especially since it's being released months before the console version.  And hopefully they have learned something since FFXI.

Hiromichi Tanaka has also already said that the classic FFXI Keyboard only controls will also be an option for us vets that prefer the KB only...yatta!

Although if there is a WASD/Mouse option that actually works I may give it a try...but I've always quite enjoyed the KB controls of FFXI, so may just stick with that!

but of course you enjoyed more the keyboard only. Since mouse was almost useless in FFXI you didn't have a choice but to enjoy keyboard only.

im sure at this day in age they would have fully functional wasd plus mouse controls for it, and i hope the keys are re-mapable too:)
