Wow and L2

for me, l2 and WoW are my top favorite MMORPGs that ive played. i have to say tho that l2 is a over all better game and I don't understand why it has such a low rank. 6.7 i think it was or 6... but anyways what i really liked about WoW was how the Horde and Alliance are set up. and the trade skills on WoW make it really fun (skinning, mining, blacksmithing, herbalism etc.) and it deserves the rate it got. but l2, is just under rated it makes me mad image<-----(not that mad but its liek the only mad one)but L2 i think should have around a 7.3-8.1 in my ratings, ty.

There should be a third option for neither. Grind fests just aren't my style.

I dont get how World of Warcraft is a grind fest?

I honestly prefer Eve-Online, but i play WoW with my GF (she's obsessed) and i find the game to be a fairly enjoyable experience... I dont even think about level etc - i just do the quest given. Its a easy game in that regard, you are given a series of goals, and you choose which one to chase after, and can usually reach that goal in a relativly short time.

what the heck are you defining as a grind?

L2 i played beta, and the absurd costs of items etc were what made you grind.. you had to kill things for days until you got enough money to just buy a single sword, which became useless a few levels later.. In Wow i've always got enough money to choose what i want, shall i buy the armour and pair of swords, or should i get a whole set of weapons to upgrade my skills?

I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a poxy rating.

If you enjoy one game over another be content with that.

When I played the objective when you logged on was to lvl up until you could reach the level cap or place where you could comfortably pvp. Wasn't a lot to explore and the evironment wasn't really that intriguing to begin with. The role play value was minimul, but again this is just my opinion. I just felt like WoW was a testament to how dry the market has been, that such mediocrity is rewarded with such a huge player base. But again, just my opinion here so don't take it so personally. WoW just isn't for me.

What MMO do you suggest then?

Well, ATM there really isn't anything that's worth its monthly IMO. I'm waiting for Dark and Light myself but I have my eye on a few others. I usually keep tabs on a lot of the MMORPGs in the works and it's looking like the next year or so could have some good ones in store. Only time will tell and thanks for not flaming me, I really appreciate that lol. Sometimes it's hard to have an opinion on here without feeling the flame of the community lol.

in WoW,  here's what you do from lvl 1-60.   Go here, talk to this guy---> go there, kill these mobs ---> or fine an item ---> go back ---> do over  (alot of walking and travel included).  Quest zombie time :)

Lin2, kill alot... in zombie mode...

outcome?  for some reason I like Lin2 better, don't need to walk around as much, just find a good spot with some friends, and grind away.

I didn't play L2.  But IMO WoW is not that great, is more advertising that an excellent game.  Lag is horrible, maybe the worst on all times.  That's why Blizzard try to get back the game on the store shelves, but can't.  is a good game, but not a 9.0+.  FFXI is better, also GW is more stable than WoW.

    But that just IMO

If you're enjoying the game, who cares what rating it has.

yes, my topic isnt going to be all that exiting and not going anywhere......but i posted at the mmorpg pub and its about mmorpgs. ya and in WoW, lets say u get to lvl 60 yay i got to lvl 60. but its not so hard..compared to l2. ok, in WoW u walk around and u see lots of lvl 60s but in L2 u know u worked hard to get too lvl 60 ALOT harder then to get to lvl 60 on WoW. And another thing, the other guy talked about, L2 is like w/e u want to do and when ever you want to. WoW is based on quests wich is fine cuz u dont have to do the quests. but it some quests u have to do. like if ur a shaman u have to do quests to get shamans totems, which i think is lame.

    Here is my score:

    L2 : 9.3/10

    WoW: 7.9/10

    1. L2 is technically superior to WoW.

Graphics and lag management and other quantifiables.

i.e. You won't see the type of lag you have in WoW in L2.

    2. You can't dispute with someone trying to tailor non-quantifiables for customised box with qualitative words much less with quantitative words a.k.a points.

    3. You don't wanna point your finger north/east-ward, when others are looking south/west-ward. It's called your frame of reference. Your north is my south. Your gain is my loss. Your bias is my salute.

    4. Now Gatekeepers argument:

You can't beat Media/Walmart paradigm shift in US.

WoW gets a 1/10 for trying.

Well i think WoW is more suitable for a casual gamer and a first timer mmorpg gamer.

I love WoW because even though i my new work schedule is so busy i actually still have time to play and get stuff done.I normally play EQ2 on weekends though.

Problem is so many ppl bought into this 9.9999 or whatever score for WoW which is a ridiculous score for ANY mmorpg as mmorpg as still relatively new and we are far away from them even been near perfection. So now ppl are expecting the game to be near perfect due to all those high score reviews and find out it certainly is not .

I'm with Blood-Hawk all the way.  I feel neither L2 or WoW are worth my time.  Waiting for DnL, among other MMOs with distant release dates.

That's really the key line here. A lot of my friends play WoW and they all like it a lot, but they're fairly new to MMORPGs. A lot of them are hard core gamers, but they just don't have much experience in the MMORPG realm and it really makes a difference. I on the other hand have been playing MMORPGs for some time now and simply wasn't impressed with WoW. IMO it was mediocre at best. But I think that's why it has such a huge player base. Blizzard is a big company and pretty much all advertisement. And that sort of thing really appeals more to the casual gamer or the inexperienced MMORPG player.

I'm sure there are some experienced MMORPG players out there who like the game without a doubt, but I myself simply don't care for it. I think that Dark and Light really holds a lot of potential and really stands out from its predecessors. They've really analyzed the aspects of the MMORPGs that came before them and have adopted their most favorable qualities while remembering and making sure not to include their unfavorable qualities. Plus the fact that they'll be distributing their client via peer-to-peer sharing programs like Ares and allowing the masses to download the client for no charge is a really big plus in my book. I think developers and their companies have been screwing the public for too long with that 50 bucks plus tax BS. I'm not knowledgeable enough in the ways of shipping and production to know how unfair it truly is but I certainly think 50 plus tax is overcharging in a big way.

  • XzaroXzaro Member UncommonPosts: 1,719

One reason I'm not getting WoW is because it's price is $50 + tax, which equals to about $80 canadian over here.

Don't think it'll drop anytime soon also... still tons of people buying it.
