Why would anyone buy another game from FUNCOM?

DemeelDemeel Member Posts: 47

I am sorry, but i do not understand why you would buy another game from a company that keeps failing and can't even finish the games they have out?

AoC was the biggest let down.. i paid 100 for the collectors edition and the game still today doesn't work......

And somehow this game has a hype meter of 8 something i mean no wonder game company's keep making crap unfinished games ppl still buy them....

Please wake up ..

Thank you

You should wake up. Look lad, not everyone shares your little opinion about what failed or succeeded. My opinion is quite the opposite, Funcom made a great adventure in the past - Longest Journey, and two MMORPGs with buggy release, but showed great development & support in long run. Funcom is in my opinion, one of the better companies out there and Secret World is one of the games I'm eagerly awaiting along with World of Darkness.

I do share your skepticism. I view secret world as a chance for funcom to redeem themselves. AoC was definitely a let-down, but it has improved over time. It's still not very good though imo. Bottomline is I don't have any high hopes for secret world. Although the actual setting with secret societies and stuff sound really exciting I won't get hyped over this game. I will try it out in a beta or something.

Well since both of there mmo's had the worst release to date..

Also AoC still alot of its full of bugs and doesn't work.. There expansion ... full of bugs also even the expansion release was rotten..

So what makes you think that this game will magically be different if the same company is running it?

The sad part is its the same thing they did with AoC , it sounded so great then nothing worked and still some the stuff they promise they removed cuase they couldn't get it to work :(

My dad calls stuff like this "Tooth Fairy Syndrome"...  AKA.. Waiting for something that will never happen..

Kinda like people who sit in bad marriages for years and years, cause for some reason the are convinced that one day it will do a 180 and everything will be perfect; which never happens..

Kinda like believeing in the Tooth Fairy.

I'm keeping an eye on the game because the setting interests me, but I won't pre-order, nor will I purchase on release date (even if I somehow get into beta)..  I'll wait until it's been out for at least 3 months and make my decision then.

I haven't looked into this game at all, but I didn't think AoC was that bad. I pre-orderd and played for a while but due to lack of content ended up cancelling subscription. Ultimately, came back again for a month when the new expansion came out and still didn't really appeal to me. However, that was more due to my personal taste and level of enjoyment I was(n't) experiencing. However, I didn't have any technical issues with the game. Not the first roundabout when I pre-order or for the brief period that I re-subbed.

The expansion launch didn't suck at all.

Sorry dude, but I'm going to call shenanigans on this one.

Funcom has made 2 of the best MMoRPGs to date, yes the releases where not that great but they have shown they can still get them right, as far as AoC still being broken, I disagree,I find very few bugs plus the expansion is really good, and thats my opinion, which is just as valid as yours.

Funcom had a fucked up launch with AoC.

They paid for it with the loss of subs and smear on their rep.

They made a lot of good changes and updates in the 2 years afterwards.

They also had a good launch of the expansion pack of AoC, showing how it can be done.

AoC is fun, changes made show that they can listen to their playerbase, and that another game director can make a hell of a difference.

All in all, I see no reason to not judge TSW on its own merits, unhindered by mistakes from the past.

The worst release to day, says who? You? Come on. Have you been there at EQ1 release? AC 2 release? DDO release? Hell, even WoW had unavailable servers for days, 5000+queues, and even a character wipe.

AoC is full of bugs after expansion? Are you gonna be more specific, or just spew out your whines, just because the game simply isn't the right one for you.

Be magically different? Hell, why don't you see and play The Longest Journey - which is widely considered as the best adventure ever released - with the designer and writer that now works on Secret World. Believe it or not, not everyone shares your wacky dreams of a unified mind world with collective memory or something.

If I refrained from buying an MMO from every developer that ever had a buggy release I'd have what? 2 or 3 choices?

    First

    Why the hate?

AoC is working fine no matter what some warty fellows wish to say. I have a current account and have for months. AoC is doing fine.

I am looking forward to this game myself and can only say that we will see if it works or not.. ALL mmo's have bad releases and the point is that if they cannot get it stable in a month then people will leave. Hope TSW comes out with a decent release.

Funcom makes good game but so far they are 2 in 2 in the catastrophic launches theme.   If you tought Age of Conan launch was bad, you never seen how Anachy Online was at launch.   I expect Secret World launch to be about the same.  As for every Funcom game, id say give them a year, yes a FULL year before buying their game.   As your comment about AOC not working today, you are kidding right ?  AOC works flawlessly now.

There are far worse games to be played than AoC.  I got a good solid 3-4 months of enjoyment out of it.

Certainly, you won't find me pre-ordering a Funcom product.  But I'd consider anything they make worth trying out.

  • alkarionlogalkarionlog Member EpicPosts: 3,584

a lot of games have bugged launchs, nothing new on that, and why the funcom hate?

if people still play things make by turbine and bethesda why wouldn't have anyone to play a game made by funcom?

and anarchy is still up and running and I don't remember any game have that kind of setup for a mmo so people also still play and love AOC so no point in that little rant

I have to agree, AOC was a dissappointment at launch, but I played for 3 months and got my money's worth and they got what they deserved for releasing too early, the loss of my 2 subs.

I'm not going to turn away from The Secret world because Funcom has shown they can turn things around (lots of folks seem to like AOC these days) however that said I suspect I'll wait until TSW is out a few months before deciding to join the game.

I've given up being an early adopter, I'm not falling for the pre-order, early access, collector edition trap.  I'll let them get the game out the door and evaluate my purchase decision on what is live and in play before I buy.

If TSW turns out to be a bug-shot useless mess, I won't have spent any cash on it.

I still play AoC well sometimes and it crashes alot and for content it shoudl have a lot more then that

There are free mmo's that have triple the amount of content then AoC lol

  • MMO.MaverickMMO.Maverick Member CommonPosts: 7,619

I don't even get why you're even playing AoC from time to time as you say, since you made it clear you dislike Funcom and AoC very much, so it sounds a bit dubious.

About crashes, well a small minority have mentioned having troubles for whatever reason with running AoC on their PC. That's not the experience of the majority though, they can run and play AoC fairly smoothly.

No, Im talking to you. If you base your opinion on the MMORPG.com article about worst releases - then you also should take their article about the most improved game of 2009 into consideration - which yes - was in fact Age of Conan.

I know i must be wrong i mean AoC's playerbase is so huge ...

I mean a great game that no one plays? that makes sense haha

It has a pretty decent playerbase.

Wait, you're going to say EVE Online has no players too right because it doesn't have over a million subscribers?
