No, Im talking to you. If you base your opinion on the MMORPG.com article about worst releases - then you also should take their article about the most improved game of 2009 into consideration - which yes - was in fact Age of Conan.

I know i must be wrong i mean AoC's playerbase is so huge ...

I mean a great game that no one plays? that makes sense haha

What is the AOC playerbase btw?  I've seen figures guesstimated at between 100K and 300K, but does anyone really know for sure? I don't think so.

And the real measure of an MMO is if it keeps running and releasing new content on a regular basis, which I think AOC continues to do.

What is wierd how many people try to protect a company like its there family...

Even when people state facts and not opinions you try to spin it like a politican to what you want me to be saying, interesting.

Also on there playerbase they have been talking on there forums to make it free to play becuase its so low. lol

Because Dreamfall: The Longest Journey was awesome?

Funcom is by no means a bad company, they simply released a product prematurely.  That doesn't mean that they lose me a a potential customer.  In fact, I would have bought AoC if my rig at that time was able to handle it, which it couldn't.

I'd like to see what Secret World does that is different from anyone else before I give them a subscription but I'll buy a good game from anyone, no matter who makes it.  It's stupid to hold a grudge about a company because you don't like something they've done in the past.

Actually false advertisement which is a lie.  Which makes Funcom untrushworthy cause they lie..

I mean it shoudl be common sense you print something on your box it should be there when you purchase that item not years later and then only some there

When i said directx10 support you missed the "full" part of that statement... it has some directx10 support 2 years later.. lol

You seem to blinded by the hate you have towards Funcom, either that or you're just a troll.

I called shenanigans in my first post and since you haven't given any concrete proof as to why Funcom is so bad (other than they had a bad launch), I'm simply going to treat you as a troll.

    Guys, don't feed the troll.

    - You're not worth a second post Demeel, so I'm just going to post it here.

You say that DirectX 10 doesn't work which it does. You're spreading false information.

You say that the AoC expansion launch was horrible, it was not - it was pretty much flawless. Again, you're spreading false information.

Its actually a post to help ppl not get taken by a bad company again..

Your over 2 years too late, and about a few thousand angry threads out of touch.

FunCom's games are fun, that's why. TSW is being developed by an entirely seperate team than AoC & AO were. It's also been in development longer than AoC was, so I have faith that it'll be worth playing.

Gotta agree with the OP here, Funcom = smoke n mirrors and bait and switch.

No the game does not work correctly after all of these years. Why do you think 700k+ people quit and the remaining few have been funneled into a few small servers.

Just go read their own forums from time to time, half the posts are filled with people frustrated with all sorts of problems/bugs today that existed 2 years ago, and others who are fed up with an incompetent dev team, lack of features, full of grind, small linear instanced world, broken pvp and seiges, we could go on, but its been said for 2 years.

The reason why the games hype is so high is because if you havnt noticed, big shocker here, Funcom has a bunch of paid advertisements on this website. Money talks people, its called marketing, and its what Funcom works harder on that its games.

A number of these 'positive posters' toward AoC are new members, registered from Denmark, and Oslow/Norway. ( Work for the company much? ) who seem to have no idea what they are talking about just copy/pasting some link to new patch notes or hyping somthing up.

Remember when AOC came out and it still had tool tips leftover from Anarchy Online? Look at Secret World, its going to be running on the same engine, watch the trailer, gonna be another linear instanced bug ridden world.

Fool me once, shame on me, Fool me twice, shame on Funcom, Not gonna be a third

You got us, we work for Funcom. We are a group of people located in Scandinavia and what we get paid to do is simply locate negative information about our company and then we dismiss it with patch notes and quotes which we wrote down months ago.

It's alright; it happens. You know what this calls for?

    A good and proper thread-jacking!

What's the part of the Secret World that's been announced so far that's keeping people interested? For me, it's the setting. I'm something of a World of Darkness fanboy, myself... The modern, magical-realist settings tend to appeal to me.

What's great about TSW, and why I definitely would buy another game from Funcom, namely this one, do you even have to ask? image

    Let's sum it up:

    - An MMO with no fantasy or scifi theme, TSW will be a the 1st horror/urban fantasy MMO

    - The setting and theme is GREAT, I mean magic mixed in with modern day world and science, plus I love the whole 'what if all the legends, folklore tales and myths appear to be true' idea, it's one of the best and most inspirational ideas for a MMO: Atlantis, boogeymen, serial killers, Cthulhu, the paranormal, Egyptian mummies and mysteries, in theorie there's room for it all within TSW, sort of a mix of Supernatural and The X-Files.

    - no leveling, no classes. Will be interesting how this will work out.

    - Tornquist as Game Director: I loved his Dreamfall and The Longest Journey games, and I like his approach of storytelling and atmosphere being important.

    - realistic, highly detailed graphics of the quality of a AoC, but then situated in modern day. I loved the graphics in AoC, still think it rates among the best of MMO's, so I'm looking forward to that graphical quality in TSW, that MMO is suitable for that realistic graphics, no cartoony please, it would ruin the vibe. Also, the areas in TSW will be enormous, Khitai is a good sign of how far they've come with the engine, and TSW will be a step further.

    - bad ass factions: I mean, come on, being part of (in)famous societies as the Templars, the Illuminati or the Dragons? Sign me up!

Anarchy Online, Funcom's primary game of note, also secretly has had many balance issues throughout it's lifetime.  Most of them involve game mechanics that are not worth getting in-depth with here, but the general idea is that the recovery time for a weapon skill is directly related to it's firing time.  In early AO, before shadowlands, slow weapons had high damage and fast weapons had low damage.  This means while a slow weapon would deal more damage per special attack, it would also cause that special attack to come back slower, normalizing the DPS.  Either have one sudden large spike of damage with a long cooldown, or several smaller hits over that same period.

When shadowlands came out many new weapons were introduced that broke the game.   They needed a significant amount of item hunting to find, but they had the smallest possible weapon recovery and the highest possible damage.  Nowadays, it's trivial for a sub-200 agent with the right gear to deal maximum possible damage with each aimed shot aginst almost any target at the fastest possible recovery time.  This, as you might expect, totally wrecks PvP because even though all damage is thirded in order to promote longer battles, there's a problem.  Aimed shot can only be done from stealth.  There is no delay to perform an aimed shot, and no delay to stealth.  This means if the agent is far enough away to not been seen because your perception is too low (very possible, at his weapon's max range there is NO way you will see him) he can instantly hit you for the maximum possible damage in the game with no way of countering it except being invicible (and yes, NTs can do that).

Now, I have not played recently.  Funcom might have made some massive change that makes it so Aimed Shot is not the most absurdly overpowered attack in the game.  But I doubt it.  It's been unchanged and unfixed since the release of shadowlands though alien invasion.

Hehe, it's fun to see how trolls and AoC hate posts draw in the other familiar haters and ragers.

Grow up! Move on... ah, what the hell am I saying, some haters will always be haters and carry a grudge, it's in their nature: inflexibility of mind and inability to cope with the fact of life that everything changes, even people and companies.

Wow you got to twice.... must be hard to suck it up...

EA screwed me with WAR, never going with them for MMOs ever again. I know SWTOR is not the same company as WAR, but EA forced an early release of WAR, so they will do the same. EA wants your money, not your satisfaction.

    Funcom well once with AOC

Aion.... never ever will i buy a game from korean origins... and like Funcom, they lied about what we would be able to do.... fly everywhere was such BS.

EQ2 (sony)... when you say your game will not have something, dont try and add it 4 months later and do a pisspoor job about it. Someone let me try it on a farming account, never woulda tried after....

EQ1 (sony)... Expansions/3months and P2P -- WTF -- Never will buy from Sony again which was a good thing cuz i almost tried Star wars, but after they bought it i was like ooooofffff that was close.

Those that might be worth looking at another game from:

Blizzard well... since they started making expansions the game has been pretty lame, but worth going with again, for a new game.

ArenaNet... Guild Wars:  If they drop the 8 man parties for pve and make it 4 or 5, it might be worth trying GW2

Square was innovative but they didnt change much after release which means i wont go for FFXIV unless a lot of friends pick it up.

So since the mmo industry sucks atm: Stick to FPS

Ah-ha. I'd somehow forgotten about Dreamfall.

Storytelling is something of a big deal for MMOs. No matter how graphically-pretty an MMO is, it's the story that really does bring the world to life. Not to mention giving more fodder for quests beyond standard organ-harvesting of the surrounding non-humanoid (and occasionally humanoid) populace.

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

There is nothing to agree with OP, because he didnt really say anything. "Facts?" Don't make me laugh.

The original post Is just an infantile ramble from someone that has to put "lol", "haha" or "..." at the end of every sentence.

And clearly, my super plan from 2006 has now been revealed by these ingenious posters. I spent last 5 years posting 2500 times about Vanguard and Fallen Earth just to hide my original purpose -- to defend Funcom in what could be the most stupid AoC thread, which has yet to be deleted.

    REALITY CHECK

I agree. You have the people that can do without the story when they play games even MMO's, but story for me adds immersion, more immersion = more fun.

So I'm glad that the devs of SW TOR, TSW and GW2 have stated several times how committed they are to that game aspect.

I'd challenge the OP to find my a MMO Developer/Publisher that doesn't suck so he can offer an alternative to the antichrist known as Funcom.

Truth is, every company sucks. The global QQ is more or less the manifestation of the circle of life, except less noble and attributable to talking lions.
