Blizzards NEW MMO?

Now this is rumor till I hear some sort of confromation but, There was a blurb my friend had discussed with me that Blizzard had a Mr. Kevin Siembieda at their offices with open arms and praised him like a king. FOr those of you who don't know who that jolly chap is he is the Creator of the Table top rpg known as Palladium also Rifts, Nightbane(nightspawn) Heroes unlimited.

Now kevin years ago had sworn out Electronic rpgs in the sence that he would never sell out his franchise to any gaming company. Well times change and things change too. If he did in fact change his mind and is in fact making a pact with Blizzard I see many many years of money out the door and into a virtual world. This rumor would be a sci-fi world as also a rumored genre in production by blizz. Kevin's compatible worlds would make for a system so Vast and potentially huge it would provide a game system large enough to go on for 20 years at least.

I do really really want this rumor to be true.

Is there anyone out there that may have heard this or could validate any of this information?

Please let me know your thoughts.

PLease let it be true I'll so I can take my Miscreant Head hunter or Glitter boy on the road!

Imho, there is no actual new blizzard mmo, at least nothing concrete. Blizzard has little to win and a lot to lose by releasing another mmo.

    1. If it is actually good, it will probably suck most of its subscribers from wow.

    2. If by chance is bad, it will hurt blizzard reputation and even take a chuck of wow subscribers off.

So, until wow shows clear signs of serious declining I think they won't go seriously to work on another mmo project.

Well, Blizzard announced that they will make a "New Generation MMO" that is what they are calling it and its supposed to be based on a brand new IP, plus theres a rumor that they will announce it in 2010 Blizzcon and on top of all that since Blizzard merged with Activision they have become a lot more greedy than what they used to be and these "New Generation MMO" is supposed to target to a broader audience than WoW, so maybe they are pushing it, so it seems to me that it could be true.

However, I don't believe a word of what Blizzard announces until I see it, they have lied A LOT.

Well it would be a new IP for Blizzard. I don't remember if they specifically said it would be a new IP in the sense that they just sat down and hashed out a new fantasy world. Maybe I'm lawyering this?

If a new MMO comes out while WoW is still being frequently played then they aren't going to lose subs, why? Because WoW is going F2P.

Blizzard has announced well more 'teased' at their new MMO, which they promise is entirely new from their original IP's. There are various interviews and articles on this, also at the last blizz-con you saw 'Unannounced MMO' on their 2011+ to do list.

In response to OP's point, I would be very interested if this rumor is true, also very excited.

Yeah, but knowing Blizzard that they take back everything they say and maybe they do not have time to write a brand new IP.

On a personal opinion, I think Blizzard knows that WoW will end by the year 2015, because Cataclysm is comming out in 2010, I think that the next expansion will be released by 2012 and then the final one by 2014 and in 2015 they will release this "Next Generation IP"

Note: Do not take anything I wrote as a Fact this is entirely my opinion.

It's more likely that the new MMO has been in development for over a year, maybe 2, and that we might see it by the end of 2012, likely not later than christmas 2013.

WoW is going to be around forever, though they may stop making new expacs for it after 2012, and it will be like diablo 2 where they throw the players a bone every couple years, and work on server mergers.

As for the IP being 'new', that dissapoints me, given how many great IPs are out there.  I would love to see Shadowrun or Deadlands mmo.  Or maybe a DnD mmo that's done right.  Heck maybe even one that uses grid based strategy for individual fights.  I've been pushing that idea for years, no takers.

I think it'd be interesting to see Blizzards' take on a space MMO.

Although I've never personally jumped on the WoW bandwagon,  I think I might be swayed over if they made a game like Eve,  but with that Blizzard 'flavor'.

...perhaps we are finally seeing the whispered rumors of the mighty WoW collosus finally retiring from his throne?

Eh, I am not excited by whatever Blizzard has cooking.  How they've handled WoW is pretty disappointing.  The game hasn't really grown much in terms of features from when it was released.  I don't really expect them to make a game that feels like a living breathing world either (which is important even in themeparks).  Lastly, they seem to view a good community as something that is the job of the players, when game mechanics have a massive impact on how people behave.

Yeah, WoW is insanely popular, but I huge chunk of that is the lack of any decent competition and the game is very polished.  Not a situation that will remain the same.

    Lessons on Blizzard terminology...

New IP: An IP from someone else that they've ripped off, changed a few names, and called "new".

Next Generation: Taking the most popular game concepts currently in the game industry, mashing them together with a little polish on top, and making it overall easier.

Has anyone mentioned Halo for a possible MMO? I mean, they did recently sign a partnership with Bungie, who has been rumoured to be makeing a Halo MMO

I never like palladium when it was pen and paper cause it took too much bookkeeping, imo.

I don't care if it's going to cost 30$ or 100$ a month, as long as the game revolves around something sci-fi'ish.

Blizzard's new mmo has been in production since 2007 when people started seeing Blizzard advertise for a next gen game. As long as it isn't like WoW i'll be more than interested to play whatever it is.

  • NytakitoNytakito Member Posts: 381

Well, according to Palladium Books website, he was there in November to give a seminar to Blizzard developers (apparantly also a bunch of old Rifts/Palladium fans) on game/world design and writing; and specifically mentioned it was NOT to discuss creating a new MMO, however, unlike earlier, it seemed that Palladium is now open to the idea of some of their IP going MMO.

So unless there was another visit between Nov 09 and now, probably nothing to get excited over, but we can keep hoping.

"Tippl: I think we will have World of Warcraft 10 years from now, and it's going to be a great business.

Because it's not just a game you play once, it's really, it's a community, it's a social network, it's where you spend time with your friends. It's not a thing you buy, it's a place you go.

We will continue to bring new content to the game, new services to the game, and that's how you keep the users engaged. You can't take it for granted. If you stop innovating, if you stop bringing out compelling content, then you won't be able to grow. But I don't see that happening any time soon. We're very focused on continuing to keep those players happy and I think we have a pipeline that will accomplish that"

Who in the hell is Tippl? He is the COO of Activision Blizzard, and he was the CFO four years prior to that.

It means the new MMO from Blizzard is not replacing WOW but it will supplement it.

Probably more casual as Bobby Kotick already mentioned this.

I would rather see a WOW 2 come out.  WOW was so good that it would create a good foundation for another WOW game

It would make sense for Blizzard to build "a new generation" of tools and servers, that can also enhance his current game.

I mean... a very conservative option is to make incremental enhancements of the wow tools and servers. Not create something from scratch.   This will limit what a new "unanounced MMO" can do, but also mean any dollar invested in that unanounced mmo is also invested in wow, so is not wasted, even if that unanounced mmo is not released.

This may also helps mantain his people "sharp" and intelligent.  It would be sad (for a company) see his more bright people rot and become obsolete.

But thats is a "worst case scenario".

Three bits I've read before on this:

    1. Blizzard iirc started recruiting talent for their new MMO nearly two years ago.

    2. Blizzard has come out on record (well, someone there has) that the next MMO will be designed to focus on a broader cross-gender appeal. It was basically Blizzard saying, "wow, look at the number of women playing our game. If we managed to make it appeal more broadly, we might be able to snag even more female gamers." Which has left me wondering what the next MMO is going to look like, because the only thing they need to add to get my wife playing is male elves without shirts. She, however, is not your typical gamer grrl, so Hello Kitty and farmville do not appeal to her (much).

If the next-gen MMO even smells like farmville touched it I will be very unhappy, let me tell you...

    3. The new MMO will be a new property, and will be unrelated to their existing franchises (WoW, Diablo and Starcraft).

Anyway, that's absolutely the only info I've seen in the last year and a half on Blizzard's new MMO. I'm not holding my breath, though. Their development schedule is so slow I expect to see the first previews sometime around 2013 or so.

With many rumors floating about, I've read more than once that the next Blizzard mmo will be more of a TPS...similarly styled as Global Agenda or Tabula Rasa. Of course, I always take all rumor with a grain of salt, but if they are indeed making a TPS style game and if it's combined with Palladium's Rifts game (which may also be why Palladium is going after that other "Rifts" mmorpg), then it would meet two of the standards Blizzard has stated.

New IP, for Blizzard at least.

Reach a wider audience: Rifts blends sci-fi and fantasy quite well, in setting. High technology and high magic along with classic mythology of vampires, werewolves, dragons, demons, etc. Palladium's Rifts touches on a little bit of everything. What wider audience could you reach by blending sci-fi and fantasy? High tech enough for those who seek a sci-fi experience, but also heavy fantasy for those who want to be in a world of magic.

Again...this is all speculation until we see something concrete, but it is interesting to ponder. I'd love to be a Glitter Boy in a mmorpg ;)

Nah, that's too old to market anymore.

I think they would probably go with Gilmore Girls, where you have to type faster than 80 words a minute, and none of it is allowed to make sense or be funny.

Then again, maybe Grey's Anatomy... but that would require men to tuck their balls back in prior to playing. Not to comfortable that.
