General: BSG Screens

MMORPG.com was at the Bigpoint Games booth. While there, we got our grubby little hands on some screenshots from the browser based game.

Check out the screens, here.

Interesting UI with the mini-map dead center like that. Must try that in Star Trek.

I like the HUD, very simple and doesn't crowd the screen. Though if you're playing in a space with XYZ movement, a 3D radar would be nice...or icons to represent height from the player's perspective. Besides from that, I like the radar dead centre to allow easy orientation as well as the HUD modules which seems to be prioritized with the most important items close to the person's view.

I'm still surprised that the Unity Engine can pull this off. I hope more games would use it to it's potential.

Is there an ETA on a beta?

As much as I love Battlestar Galactica I don't see this working as a MMO to well or their version of it tbh, if they wanted to make a real attempt the first thing would've been set the timeline back during the first Cylon War where the 12 Colonies and the Cylons were engaged in war makes more sense and more option and little more room to develop a proper MMO, 3 factions, Colonial Military, Pirates or Freelancer Faction, Cylons.

Mining and Resource Gathering, Production and Manufacturing and Research (Crafting) Shipbuilding, Military careers, rising thru the ranks, world building, minigames, V-World, etc, etc the ideas are endless, and most of all breath taking space combat, including the use of Battlestars for guilds, and great ground combat.

I would love it if the ship movement was like real thrust is a zero-g environment like you see in the series but somehow I doubt that would happen with a combonation of latency and a low learning curve requirements of MMOs.

I'm thinking the same thing; it's very clean, although I'm wondering if the radar results "swivel" according to the pitch of your ship. The graphics are also quite a bit better than I expected.

I've been wincing away from this game... now, I'm not so sure. Can't help comparing it to Eve, though, and while I love the complexity of Eve, I know that many people find the game frustrating. This game's progress might be worth watching... we'll see.

And let's not forget that they actually brag about their cash shop having game affecting items for sale. Like they said, Europeans are pushovers for it already and the U.S. players won't mind at all. LOL

This game was toast the minute these guys decided to make it.

Wonder if these hacks even actually have a license to make this game.

Love the screenshots, the graphics and UI look great...will i play it...meh probably not...BSG had its day about 3 yrs ago...they're a little late coming out of the gate to capture a big fanbase....plus add F2P model......cash shop...

    nah....

I am quite surprised by the graphics quality of this game. Maybe I WILL give it a consideration. Unfortunately the BSG series, as awesome as it is does not lend itself well to being an MMOG. Not when you're few survivors and you've got potentially millions of Battlestar Captains???

Wait wait wait-this is a browser-based MMO, right?  Are they doing this in Flash or Java?

I can't imagine they'd get graphics this good out of a browser game and yet still have it run OK on multiple browsers and platforms.  Something's fishy here.

    nah....

Wrong, there is a BSG movie in the works at this very time. Based on the old series (not the newer version).

F2P is the biggest lie in gaming industry. Calling microtransaction "free" is like saying it is "free to eat at a restaurant" (except, you need to pay for the food, and the tip, and the seating, and the parking, and the napkins, and the drinks, exc...exc).

I will not play a game with a cash shop this game says it will sport. Free to play, PAY to win, no thanks.

Battlestar Galactica Online will be presented in unity engine. That's why the graphics look so damn impressive for a browser based game.

The screen shots look good, I might try it just to see.  I have tried other f2p and have always been let down.   So here is hoping one does work.  However I realie its a browser game.   I tried one of those before, called battlefiiel heros and it was a pos, and to call it an mmorpg when you only got like 14 folks playing in an instance see where I am goin.

Calling a browser base game an mmorpg when you can only have x number of folks playing in a certain screen, where is the massive in that?

Battlesfield Heroes is no MMOG. It's just a simple client game (not a browser game, cause you need to download a huge client). In "real" browser-MMOs you play together/against thousands of other players. Sadly most browser games still use simple graphics, so I'm really excited about BGO - but I won't play it^^ just interested in the product ;-)

Nice clean graphics.  But if the gameplay centres purely around flying a Viper or Cylon ship, then I'll probably consider it boring.

There seems to be many people here who know what the hell BSG stands for. I don't. One of the basic tenets of professional writing is to not use an acronym that you have not defined.

I've gotten used to members here not defining acronyms. I expect more from the staff here.

BSG = Battlestar Galactica. They also misspelled it "Gallactica" on the front page.
