Since WoW is so popular, what's the point of other MMORPG's still existing?

Considering that World of Warcraft is "beyond popular" as it is the biggest selling MMORPG ever, then why do all the other MMORPG's still exist?
Think about it, every other MMORPG out there are losing a lot of money because of WoW. After learning so much about MMORPG's, you do realise it costs a lot of money to make a MMORPG and a lot to maintain it, with the lack of players it means there's not enough subs/item shop profit to cover the expenses. You would have thought that Blizzard would forever put every other company that makes these type of games such as SOE and NCsoft go out of business. To futher note, why make any new MMORPG if all people play is WoW?
To make things clear, I hate WoW because I really hate the way the game has become, abusive and anti-social, I learnt the hard why that it is impossible to find friends and good guilds since all you'll come across are the turd brains, and the friends you think you gain you'll end up losing them anyway since they will likely to out level you and when they are level 80 and your still no-where near that level you can't talk to them anymore since they are too busy wanting to do what they want to do, seriously you do raiding and daily quests every dam day and you can't be bothered to talk to a friend. I've even come to a point where I said a simple Hello to them and they can't reply back, what the hell?
Well that was to clarify I don't support WoW but it's not like anyone is going to give me a helping hand or listen to me when I most need it. Anyway, if WoW is so good then what is the need and point to make more MMORPG's since they all crash and burn anyway and will never match WoW's player population numbers?

Create a WoW-clone, make it F2P, profit from that.
People may be looking for an MMO that's like WoW but with some changes and with all these similar MMORPG's they are quite likely to find the game that best suits their needs.

So let's say there is a 1% chance of being the "next WoW" and 99% to be cancelled within a month of start. Since WoW will probably make something like 8 billion dollars before it finally shut down, spending $50 mill for an opportunity paying off 80 mill (1% of 8 billion), is a pretty damned good investor decision.
It's also the same argument as: "Intel makes 80% of all processors, etc." or "Windows has 85% of the PC OS market, etc."
How is free to play going to make you profit? People are not all wanting to pay for stuff in the item shop. Free to play's have terrible cheap servers anyway like Runes of Magic.

Double ^^^^ this. There are quite a few people still out there that don't enjoy WoW. Plus no competition is bad, even though it may seem there is nobody really competing against WoW there is. And some games are actually making good money, more popular game doesn't always mean most profit. Just think of all the servers, bandwidth, GM's and stuff they have to pay for.
I've also got a question,... If there was no other MMO's do you think WoW would be the game it is today? I'm guessing nope.

Because you don't understand something doesn't mean that what you do understand is correct and accurate.
Look at the game list. Look at how many MMOs there are. There wouldn't be so many if they were all losing money.
Star Trek Online is profitable with what... 20k subs I believe? That or 50k subs. Either way, 20k or 50k is a long shot from millions and they are still profitable. I presume many many many games have low break-even points.
Some games go for making the game as cheaply as possible. Other games go for quality. But I garuntee you that there wouldn't be so many people willing to lose money so easily. The fact is that they make money.
Many F2P games have a small % of players that carry all of the free players cost. Then they have the rest of the players that spend money that they are just profiting from.
Its ambitious projects like SW:TOR that make me wonder if they will even profit a penny. But you don't see many of those.
Honestly, I wouldnt play WoW if they paid me $15 a month...
And I always have an MMO sub, had one since about '94, so I can't imagine others aren't making any money, but if you say so, it must be true....
No, it's not a joke, I'm stating that it's a waste of developers time and money to create new MMORPG's and same applies to maintain the old ones. WoW as you know has 11 million subscribers, I'm not sure on what the player population is for every MMO but they are not in the millions I can tell you.
Do you think Apple should stop making computers? PC's have the lion share of the market so it's pointless for Apple to be in business right?

LOL @ OP ignorance, just because games lack the insane amount of subscribers doesn't mean that they crash and burn. Although i will say wow is enjoyable at times it doesnt keep me occupied like it used to.I like to mix it up and so do other people thats why other games exist.

OMG!! I'm not even sure where to begin. If this is not a joke, than it's just moronic.
1. MMO's have been made with various budgets. Many are profitable with smaller populations than Warcraft.
2. You say you hate the game, but propose that it should be the only MMO. Can't say that I've ever heard that line of logic before.
3. Warcraft is on the decline. While it still boasts the largest population, and likely will for some time, a well made game now will stand a much better chance against it than that same game would have 2 years ago.
4. There are MMO's in different genres, i.e. Science Fiction, Horror, Asian, etc. These appeal to different players, and there is a market for each. Because WoW dominates the fantasy market, which is the largest share of the total MMO space, that means all other developers should put up there hands and say "I quit!" ?!? The majority of MMO's that have been developed were not developed with the intention of outperforming WoW's numbers.

I think I have to agree. I've read some really moronic posts before, but this one by far takes the cake. This guy should get some award or something for coming up with this bad of a post.
After viewing his past posts I believe he is a WOW fan trolling for reaction or a WOW burnout frustrated that he no longer has a game so is, trolling for reactions. I could be wrong but the question in itself says troll to me as i cannot imagine this being a legitmate question.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
actually according to blizzard, they're quarterly earning from subs back in December was 315 million. so let's do the math.
315 divided by 3 = 105
105 divided by 15 = 7
that's 7 million players. and i highly doubt they got another 4 million subs since then, if anything they've lost more.

While you might be right, I find it more entertaining to think that he was born from two downies, force fed lead based paint chips for 10 years. Additionally, every night for the first 6 years he was alive, mom and dad downy bowled him down the stairs for shits and giggles.
