Best Next Gen Pvp

SeffrenSeffren Member Posts: 743

Which one of the soon to be released mmo's (next generation) is going to be the best for pvp, and why?

GW2, Tera, Rift, Vindictus, FFXIV, Mortal, SWTOR,  ... (my list prolly isn't complete, so just add it in your answer).

Some won't have pvp maybe, but just added to get some list going.

Thanks,

I.

Can i add to your list as my choice [assuming next gen means most innovative to  be released] is not on your list?

Next gen just means the new upcoming mmo's, if they're innovative or not is for another discussion.

Here I'm just interested to know what's going to be the best choice pvp wise :)

I dont' even thinnk FFIV have pvp.

I dont' think any of the game listed will have spectacular pvp, because non of them really advertise themself as pvp games.

Tera might have good pvp because it have different mechanism.  But it's hard to say

I can only really tell you about GW2, since that is the one that I have been following the most. The PvP in GW was highly structured and was very intense, each person on a team of 8 had 8 skills to bring with them. This leads to some rather... interesting combinations and team builds. It forced you to be strategic and really think about not only your build, but the rest of your team's. With the addition of body blocking it made for some highly tactical gameplay.

You can bet GW2 will be at least as complex. It's structured PvP is 5v5 with each player having 10 skills. Half dictated by your current weapon and your profession (or class, to the rest of you MMO fans). There are skills that can give you a different weapon and change them, as well as multiple weapon sets. What will really set teams apart in GW2 will be placement and team synergy, since many skills and attacks are augmented by cross skill combinations, e.g. an arrow being shot through a wall of fire will do extra fire damage. As well as attacks from the side or back doing extra damage/negative effects. The synergy will come from the utility skills and how they combine with other classes and their weapon skills. Warriors have battle standards that can be picked up and give AoE buffs and debuffs, Shouts that buff the warrior and his allies or debuff the enemy(s). The elementalist have skills that summon weapons such as a flaming sword or icy bow to be used by her or her allies. Not to mention the powerfull AoE and single target spike skills. Elementalists also have something called attunements which give passive benefits, while attuned to water their skills will heal the elementalist and her allies. And then we have traits which can further augment skills and abilities, but only a limited number can be equipped at a time in each category. All players will be on equal ground in structured PvP, access to all skills, max armor and level, access to a myriad of equipment; in order to create a nice, even playing field.

WvW is a more casual form, which pits 3 servers against eachother in a week long battle in a specific area created for it, The Mists. This will involve the attacking of forts, the capturing and holding of specific resource nodes, caravans, and mercenary camps. This will use your characters current equipment , skills, and level. It is designed as a bridge between PvE and PvP, being a more casual and chaotic form. The winning server will gain a bonus.

So if GW is anything to gauge the PvP in GW2 by, its going to be a  very good place to be, PvP wise. Don't expect open world PvP though, not ArenaNet's style.

Guild Wars 2 looks most promising so far. I hope one of the space games comes through.

Age of Conan has really made itself into a solid MMO with the best graphics on top. I don't see any of these unreleased MMO's topping the graphics.

This sounds very promising, thanks for the headsup.

I still do not consider pvp in MMORPG to be really next gen, for a next gen PVP fix I would look at regular Multiplayer games, I am okay with pvp in MMORPG's but for me personaly they have a long road to travel to get me excited as some if not most mulitplayer PVP games are far better to me then what can be found in MMORPG, as for me MMORPG are or atleast should go beyond being just PVP games, we already have that genre in our multiplayer games and with time we get more and more people online on one map or world.

I don't see any MMORPG coming that I'd call truly next generation.

Also for PVP to evolve it'd have to go back to its roots because the current direction is shallow.

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

Black Prophecy will have amazing pvp. That game is looking better and better everytime, Not long to go now. :)

Also looking forward to Tera pvp, Looks interesting.

Teras PvP might be fun. Considering you actually have to move to dodge magic/attacks and you need to aim your spells.

Allods, Great Fraction PvP using astral ships(flying ships).

GW2 obviously will have a great PvP system in place because of how big an emphasis there was for it in the first game.  Also, besides that, TERA is expected to have a great PvP system because of the way combat plays out, and the endgame content besides dungeons for TERA involves Guild PvP as they try to control the government.

I love the idea that TERA has, because they try to get the politics to play a part in EVE like fashion.  I love the way politics is in EVE, and would like to see it recreated in TERA because that really gets players more interested in combat than some lore that a bunch of authors make IMO.  Plus, it creates better feelings for winning in battle and gives more determination for guilds to band together to take down a stronger one.  No real faction means that the guilds are sort of their own, which I like a lot more than having a set number of factions as well.

Sadly it seems open world PvP is dead.  DAoC was the last to do it right.  :(  All of these games mentioned have heavily instanced PvP.  Bleh.

Depends on your taste in controls (action or standard mmo) and if the Dev's can pull off a good pvp structure in the game.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

I would expect GW2 to have good PvP.

TERA has interesting mechanics with the whole aiming / dodging deal, though im generally weary of anything Asian these days.

I don't expect anything else on that list to have good PvP, asmuch as they might try.

But IMO, I would expect Jumpgate Evolution to have the best PvP simply because it will be mainly skill based since you're controlling the fighter and aiming and dodging like a FPS, there is no dice rolls. Though there willbe gear / equipment, not sure on how it will scale though. Its factional based, with 3 factions. aka: DAOC and PlanetSide and there is no instances, all combat is open world and its does have developers from DAOC and WAR, you can view that as a positive or negative. So yea, its looking good.

The Agency looks cool, but I dont think its going to be anything revolutionary, looks very much like playing a regular box canyon shooter.
