I find it to be the first of its kind in the mmo genre. Its not an mmorpg, but a blend of mmo, tactical shooter, strategy game, social network and and tps (third-person shooter).
More people, from what I read, seem to try to gauge it against other mmorpgs, perhaps. But at the same time, it surpasses the breadth and depth of game-play of Global Agenda and Crime Craft; so not nearly quite as akin to a TF2-style single static map game.
Im wondering if APB will continue to get hard knocks for being so different and perhaps misunderstood as a style of game.

I will admit i have not tried APB yet but there was hype a year ago and it sounded cool. I then see a video and i am utterly dissapointed. It looked like Grand Theft Auto but with a subscription fee. Now I do play global agenda and i was willing to pay the sub as long as they kept adding content like they promised. It looks like they ran the numbers and realised they were better off selling expansions and ditchng the sub. I applaud them for this.
Global Agenda while being nothing more than a TPS with good graphics and solid gameplay mechanics its actually fun. Looking at the Video for APB it looked shallow. Nothing more than another GTA but with much smaller levels and what looked like cookie cutter missions that reminds me of wow.
I think the difference here is that i look at Global Agenda and i can see it growing into something much better. It has some challenging PVE and a good PVP. Also Global Agenda does cator to casual players i just hop in kill some shit get some new gear, work as a team with my friends to beat ultra max. its not bad.
Now again i have not played APB and by all means i would love to be wrong. But i am hearing bad things starting to see some pretty low reviews which were much lower than Global Agenda.
So I think APB has some serious problems and sounds like it may not make it.
Far more entertaining than Global Agenda imo. I've played both and APB blows it out of the water at the same stages in development right after launch. There have been talks about FFA maps, PvE maps, territorial maps. All things that Global Agenda touted at launch. The difference will be that APB allows you to make a character that is truley your own. The complexity of the creation systems are nothing that any game in any genre has ever seen before. What's so bad about a persistant GTA game? CoD added a RPG progression system and it didn't get bashed for it, why is APB? They've taken the shooter idea and given it life, I can't figure out how this is a bad thing in any way. I think people just like to bitch, that's all. Doesn't matter what it's about, as long as they get a response, they feel better about themselves. Almost like a whiny kid trying to get attention.
The game is great for what it provides. There's really no point to start complaining about every little detail that isn't in the game. Enjoy it for what it is.
The game seems fine but to me there is no way to justify it deserves a monthly fee or its current options for payment. So what now the devs use the term mmo and decide it autimoatically gets a monthly fee ? The business model should simple use the current Guild Wars model and you will have alot of people playing all the time.
They may change it, Global Agenda ended up going that route. The idea here is that you can purchase their RTW points with in-game cash. This means that you could play for free if you know what you're doing. I don't really have a problem paying 10 bucks for 30 days though. It's less than almost every MMO currently out there. I do think it needs a lot more depth before it will convince others that it's worth the price.
I very much believe that APB is misunderstood, and it can only gain understanding if people would just try it.
While reading other threads I started thinking about hotdogs. I enjoy hotdogs. But, if I were to describe a hotdog to someone who has never had one it would probably really turn them off to the food. I think the same goes with APB.
I initially bought the game because of the payment plan that involved just buying time. I figured I would just play it for an hour every now and then when I'm just in one of those "I must see something die" moods and replenish my time once every few months. I stated in an earlier post that it didn't take very long for me to understand what this game was really about (again, one of those things that if merely described would turn people off, it needs to be experienced), and it was something that I really dug.
Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing.
Looking Forward To:
This is a game for PvPers who want an MMO that isn't an RPG,they've waited a long time for another genre mor eappropriate to their tastes to come along in a Market totally dominated by the RPG genre.I personally get all I need fo this type of game playing TF2 and other free after purchase games, but I'm sure many feel they get all the RPG they need from palying single player RPGs or diablo type games.
This genre of MMO is in it's infancy and hopefully there is enough demand for this new genre for these games to be successful and better ones to come out in the future...the success of APB and GA in it's new payment scheme can onyl be good in encouraging diversity in the MMO market so everyone can find the kind of MMO they like rather than being stuck with those of us that love RPGs for their massively multiplayer kicks.
I dont think the game concept is misunderstood, what is misunderstood are the game mechanics. I've stopped counting the amount of times I've had to correct people.
Upgrades for one, dont really mean much at all, they give little advantage and yet the sob storys i've heard about being killed by people with upgraded stuff is unreal.
I also hear "omg I head shot him and he survived" ! or "they always get headshot on me" - No headshots possible in APB dude, so you can be killed if just your foot is showing?.. yes!... but... the reverse is true! you can also kill people in the same way ¬,¬
Another mis-conception is that the starting gun (STAR) is crap! When currently its probably the most OP gun, lol.
Then we move onto the topic of stuns and arrests.. oh the tears, my heart does bleed for them... truth is, if you've let an enforcer get so damn close that he can stun AND arrest you, your dead anyway and complaining about it simply reveals your obvious mistakes.
Moving on to complaints of hackers.. ok, so there MAY be some hackers, but i've played solidy now for two weeks (PTW + LIVE) and i've rarly encounter cause to complain!... why is it that I never see these hackers? pure coincidence? or is it another cry from incompetant players.
all of the above, ALL of it can be corrected with some practise, determination and good old fashioned team work. Either people will learn or they will turn and go back to whatever they were playing before.
I've played both APB and Global Agenda and I'm not sure how you think APB is more shallow. There's no doubt that for me, an aged, out-of-practise FPS player, Global Agenda is easier. I can play co-op games and hold my own, in APB, it's PvP and I'm bloody useless. But that's my incompetence at PvP shooting. I think APB is less shallow at release than Global Agenda but a lot of MMO players are going to find it difficult and it might need to appeal FPS players, not used to playing subscription games and not interested in the social tools which they dismiss as barbie doll (you can make music with barbie doll?). I think that's the problem APB might have.
This game is just about perfect for me as an off-hour popcorn game.
I am a sucker for customization and the main reward in the game is increases of customization options.
At the same time I am getting really tired of MMO pvp which is often more a question of who made the right build or use the right class more than personal skill. In APB the better player wins 8 out of 10 times, pure and simple. I don't feel like I am cheating when I win and I can accept that the other player is better than me when I lose.
Its the player, not the mechanics that counts.
So you have instant fun, instant PvP and massive customization. Just perfect for me when I want to PvP.
Then I can go play lotro when I want to pve he he.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
One thing:
First is not best.
There are some people that would like a game like APB only... better. I believe those are exactly who complain about the game.
