I really look at this like Christmas Eve when I was 8. I know where the presents are, I know I want to go peek. I want to play with what ever is under the wrapping but it will take away from the joy if I just wait for the day to unwrap the real thing. Distractions are your best friend if you truly are waiting for this to come out and dive in to it with both feet. Don't stick your toe in the water until then.
Square Enix is a horrible company. I'm not going to buy anything from them ever again after the fiasco that was FFXI.
I bought the game a long time ago and quit, only to come back at a later date to find my account had been deleted. Furthermore, I was expected to buy another copy of the game to play again. In addition, there was (and still isn't - without another purchase of some sort) no free trial to see if the game was any good.
Next, the payment system is a funny little set of hurdles, complete with their latest "verification" system. That alone took a re-install and a browser change to make work.
Some of this may have been excused when the game still looked good, but now it doesn't anymore, and they still expect people to jump through their hurdles.
I have never seen a company make it so difficult to play and like a game they expect you to pay for. I don't expect FF XIV to be any different.

Best move on to another company.
Their is a free trial to this game if youd like a link reply i haven no problem posting it for you.
I do agree with the new payment syste the previous one i never foudn a problem with and i played it for many years leaving it and rejoining it with my OLD ORIGINAL COPY. (which you threw out probably or your POL ID)
(You are the 1% that we dont care much for truth be told) Secondly as i stated before If you kept up with information they discontinued POL for the new ffxiv so their will be a new payment method.
*No point going back to ffxiv when ffxiv comes out in the next 3 months* waste of money save it for ffxiv

Actually there has been a free trial for about 4-5 years, you originally could purchase a 30-day trial disk from various gaming stores for $1.99, and most recently there is a website that offered a 14-day trial, but it has been taken down due to FFXIV launching soon.
It makes perfect business sense...there are many people interested in FFXIV and want to try FFXI, so instead of a majority of rage quitters upset cause WASD doesn't move your char within 2min of logging in, SE got $15 out of ya to purchase their bundle and trial it for 2 min....rofl!
No matter how many times I walk away from FFXI there's always a part of me that wants to go back. It was said earlier that FFXI has turned into almost nothing but end game and that's very true. I never sunk the time into getting a character to the level cap, although I had 5 jobs in the 50 range. I tried playing again a few months ago and the amount of time it took me to get a party together for anything just made me sad. I LOVED FFXI in it's prime, but I think I've just grown away from it to much. Reading this thread has made me realize one thing. You've already quit the game once, all of the reasons you quit are probably still there.

LOL /wave don't let the door hit you in the butt.
Your business means nothing. On top of the fact that a majority of the stuff people found annoying and difficult will not be in 14. You come off as quite a dope because you spew all of your ill informed opinions.
Not to mention FFXI has had a solid amount of players for many years now. Just because YOU don't like it does not mean bad company and bad game and all that. It. Funny post though...
I ended up making a new character in Champions online for now. I have a lifetime subscription so might as well try to get some more use out of it.
Suprisingly it's very populated again recently ever since it was only 10 dollars on steam. I doubt it will last me very long but for now it fills the need for a mmo. I just wish there was more to endgame and there was a little more restrictions to form character classes. By the time everyone who bought it gets to the end of their 30 days I'm sure it'll die right back down.

That's one thing that bothered me about that game while I was in beta for it. Everyone just seemed to pick random things and there was no rhyme or reason to it. What's the difference between a tank using ice beams and a dps using ice beams? I really have no clue.
Trust me OP, I know exactly how you feel. FFXI was my favorite MMO for years, and part of me really wants to go back. However, my account was hacked back before they started using the authenticator and was banned due to that.
I tried to go back a few months ago, but was simply overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I would have to do in order to feel like I used to. However, if you still have your original account and everything, you might as well considering the game is still almost 3 months out and I wouldn't suggest participating in the beta unless testing is your thing.
Play FFXI, get to 80, have a little fun. Then, when FFXIV comes out, get over here and have some more fun

This is pretty good suggestion. It plays like FFXIV as well, with the stamina gauges and locking on to targets and stuff.
Of course it's more fluid, but if you liked that there's a good chance you'll like XIV's combat too.
Need reasons?

I, personally, recommend NCSoft and Mythic.
