The main reason this event is held is because of the miner hysteria it generates on the forums. I wouldn't worry about it to much, just stay away from crowded systems and you'll be more than fine.
*shudder* another damn month where I can't take my hulk out. Not even daring it in high sec after the last time. Just replaced all the stuff I lost to a suicide gank last time out! Live and learn
Still think the even should if an announcement must be made, made within 24 hrs of it starting. Seems that would make it more interesting than giving everyone a heads up to park their hulk.
There are enough people that do not read any forums, do not pay attention to any chat channels, and have no friends...for the griefers to get their fill of tears.
Besides, the announcement affects the market - allowing them some fun before hand - leading into - and then after.
Then there are all the bots...oh well.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
someone explain to me the fun in killing a ship with zero fighting skills?
You know how people go hunting deer and enjoy that?
i think tha'ts the best explanation to be honest.
while i don't approve of or participate in such behavior.....
it has a certain excitement associated with the event to raise some adrenal pumping glands lol.
what would be cool however, to counter this.... is to see massive vigilante squads form to gank the gankers...make some battles out there all kinds of wooting.

It has nothing to do with combat. Hulkageddon is all about the tears and the forum drama. I'm a carebear in EvE but I think Hulkageddon is great. There are plenty of MMORPGs on the market that will completely protect you from interference from other players but EvE isn't designed that way and it would take a lot away from the game if that changed.
It's also a good reminder to everybody that nowhere is really safe in New Eden and you should pay attention to your surroundings whenever you're undocked.

Also a good reminder to everybody at this time of year that ganking noobs in the starter areas is against ToS and petitionable. Suicide ganking a Hulk in highsec is all good and fun but popping some week-old newbie mining in their Burst in a starter system just because it's 'Hulkageddon' month can get you in trouble if the newbie has the wits to petition.

Didn't we already have a thread about this?
Already got a gravimetic site bookmakred in a remote low sec system and a cheap retriever ready to go!

you're obviously a carebear....you would never understand the thirst for blood by the PVP people.
Same reason why we dont understand why you pay for the game to mine minerals 23/7, 7d a week.
"going into arguments with idiots is a lost cause, it requires you to stoop down to their level and you can't win"
the term carebear gets old. Especially when used to try and make a person less "insert adjective here" than you.
because they spent their millions of skill points in industry instead of missles makes them less than you?
ya...that's totally logical thinking.
