Tanaka explained that they will be making some adjustments based on the upcoming beta test and remain on track for a simultaneous PS3 and PC launch in 2010.

Should be less than a month until beta starts.

Crossing my fingers this game turns out good.

I thought the beta had been loosely slated for July for a long time now. Anyway, the article sort of suggests that the journalist got Hiromichi Tanaka for about 60 secs, so I guess they just panicked and started asking about WoW. Since XIV follows from XI in SEs mmo pedigree Hiromichi can always honestly answer that WoW didn't influence their game, as XI came a few years before WoW. so really we get little information.

I think XIV probably the most promising PvE mmo looking to release in 2010, some go on about the Battle system being too thoughtful for them, but it will be pretty much optimized through beta in a few months time...and it isn't hard for SE to make monster kills in solo play seem a little faster and smoother as the move from early beta to GM.

My guess is that it will turn out to be a watered down FF version of EQ2 judging by the graphics.

Or maybe a much improved and reinvented version of FFXI... since that is what it is.

The number of mindless hate posts has shot up in the last few days. I guess fans of the competition are getting scared and going into smear campaign mode?

Yup Yup i love the IP so im really hoping it can deliver, been waiting for a good game that gets away from the same old tired game play as EQ and all the games that adopted this game play like WoW, LoTR, etc... Really hope it offers something new.

Lol how did you came at that conclusion while judging from the graphics?

"The reason why many MMOs failed after WOW launched was probably because they were trying to copy WOW," he explained. "For FFXIV we're not trying to copy World of Warcraft, we're trying to choose something different.

    Good to hear that

Agreed. Judging by the tightness of my left shoe, this game will be milky version of Orange juice.

Disagreed. Judging by the actual media releases I have seen this game will be FFXI, tweaked, improved, and overall better. Not to mention it will be filled with a plethora of content just like...guess what FFXI! Wow!

My take on this game , It's gonna be an Aion clone but without all the things that make aion cool like teh wings and such.

None the less it will be in a final fantasy realm, but anyhow im a big fan of FF and played it since the very first game came out, yea I'm that old deal wit it.

Anyhow, I hope i get in beta and i damn sure cannot wait for this game to come out it is on my list of games i want to play.

Love the IP as a stand alone RPG, I'll give this one a try but honistly I have found I prefer the "same old tired game play" though I haven't seen a MMO do it and do it well since DAoC, (I assume you throw it in the same group). There are 1 or 2 upcoming that might though.

Having said that I am really looking forward to FFXIV and will give it a run through just out of FF fan boy love; I dont know as if Squar could make a bad FF game for me though FF X2 came close

ok "beta starting soon," what does this mean? Is this in reference to a closed beta then open beta, or (forgive me for being naive) does it mean we go into open beta soon? Why do I have a feeling this game won't be coming out in 2010?

Its in reference to the closed beta.

They have approximately 6 months left to finish the closed and open beta. They have, however, been working on the beta version for longer than this, for about 3 months. In the meantime, the testers have been playing the stripped down Alpha version because Square-Enix felt the Beta wasn't "ready to be tested" yet, but wanted to gather some player feedback as soon as possible.

I hope this explains it. I think it could go either way right now. If there are no big delays in the beta, it'll be released this year. Who knows what will happen though.

I hope everyone can deal with the combat. I've seen posts here complaining that LoTRo combat is too "slow". Well you ain't seen nothing yet. This combat is practically turn based. Personally I LOVE tactical, strategic, turn-based RPG's. But I'm waiting for the whining to start.

If you watch the new video it is no longer really slow.  Maybe the version being tested is, but the combat in beta will be much faster.

Yeah combat is much faster. If you start with a full action bar you can chain attacks together only being limited by the animation speed really. even when you get it empty and are waiting it too fill enough for an attack your waiting maybe an extra second or two tops. To be sure its not the button spamfest of EQ2 or WoW speed but its definitely faster than older MMO's and FF11 itself.

I like its pace frankly. most modern MMO's let you do attacks so fast you got animations overlapping and interrupting each other or not being noticable in the least. Makes fights look real lackluster and choppy. Plus i'm sick of spamming attacks across 3-4 hotbars. When all you have to do is hit the attacks as fast as possible in a certain order to have max effectiveness, skill is not required. This is not the case with FF14.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels the tension building. Hype is accelerating in growth, but the release of genuinely new information is sparce. It's causing the current fans to get stir crazy and the opposing fans to get annoyed by the crazed FFXIV fans.

I imagine the game won't release until late october-november but the tension will people in September. The flamers will be on high, and the defenders will be on their guard ^_^ Grab you're popcorn folks, this game is gonna cause some epic waves I believe.
