From what i am reading on the website it seems like.
No more hybrid class. Since all classes are based on weapon it would be impossible to get for example RED MAGE i think..... the hybrid of Mage and warrior. sad lol although red mage was consider a pretty sad job in ff11 during the earlier days not sure what happen after the expansion.
Seems like no more dual classes or sub class as well haha..... kinda like the sub class system although it was so annoying to lvl the sub class.
was wondering if there is any Racial Trait or differents between the 2 type of similar race. Would be kinda boring if the midland and highland hyur is exactly the same.
but remembering what happen with FF11 racial traits where elf can barely hit anything and mithra can hit alot but low damage. I think it would be safer to say no thanks to it lol.

You could actually be a red mage if you mix and match different types of armor that's the point of the new system, want to be a healer and also a warrior? you can just don't expect to be great in both.
From what i did read u still have multiclasses even way deeper than it was in XI check out this link and read the article added at Apr. 16 for a nice info on how it will work
http://www.ff14news.com/page/4/
Its from Alpha so maybe they will change a few things still but from what i read it sounds awesome.
It sounds like the system is similar to FF:Tactics and/or FF:IV. As you level a class you gain access to skills. Once you've unlocked a skill you can equip it under any class.
Thus you can mix and match to recreate any class you like.
Like the RDM? Play a gladiator with buff/debuff spells equipped and wear some caster gear.
Paladin more your flavor? Play a gladiator with healing spells equipped.
Now there's no promise that either of these combinations will be as powerful as focusing entirely on melee or magic but I wouldn't be surprised. They did make the red mage and paladin useful in FFXI.
One way they could do this is have certain skill combinations unlock special bonuses. So if you create your "red mage" you get a bonus to your buff and debuff spells. Your "paladin" may generate extra hate through healing spells and/or regenerate some mana when they block with a shield.
Note: beyond the fact that you can use skills from any class no matter what weapon you're using, this post is speculation. I do hope they do something along those lines, though.
thanks for the info guys
DoomedFox thanks for the link now i am abit more up to date. haven't been following the FF14 news since their open beta phase a announcement.
From reading the site. it seems like weapon will be the main hint as to what class you are didn't seems to state anything about armor. Skill are gained once you lvl that "discipline" and some are available as global skill as in free to use by all.
i wonder if there will be a twig stabbing mage LOL
yeah i remember reading about racia traits news as well.. But it is kind of odd that they allow 5 race 2 types each but the only difference is the built or color..... maybe it will be based on the guardian deity. But if they are really all equal i guess it makes it easier for the 1 chara per account since the race is only for visual asthetics.
There may very well be some differences in in the starting stats of each race/type (seems only logical), but they are somewhat pointless in the long run and only serve as a suggestion.
In FFXI these stats mattered, because they progressed linear and thus the allocation of your stats (DEX, AGI, INT, ...) always stayed quite static. Tarutaru always had a bigger emphasis on MP than a Galka and vice versa.
With the system of manual point allocation in FFXIV you could very well create a bodybuilding Lalafell that can snap a roegadyn in two, but has trouble successfully executing even the simplest magic card trick.
I've been wanting to ask this and this thread brought up some good points. So, the Conjurer is the healing/nuking/buffing class correct? Are they expected to be able to nuke like a blm and heal like a whm at the same time? Or is there going to be a system of stances put in place like what the scholar had in FFXI. The whole, you can be a RDM if you do x and y made me think of this.
Stances would make sense, but it's really hard to say right now what will happen.
The whole healing deal seems quite odd in the first place. It kinda sounds like that you wouldn't need dedicated healer at all. Of course this might change as the game evolves, but right now that everyone has some form of self heal, CC skills, tanking abilities/stances and debuffing, everyone is kinda like a hybrid of sorts.
But there's nothing stopping from everyone going pure melee, pure nuker, pure debuffer/CC, pure healer route so I guess we'll end up doing what's the most efficient thing. Right now it's pure speculation.
There is to little facts and to much assumption in this thread...
And as we all know Assumption is the mother of all Fckps.
The most important thning we know is that there will be a lot of crossclass skills to create you own personal class and flavour, or even setup the right skills for the right situation.
I hope i can play the ultimate support clas which is a healer with CC, buffs and debuffs....

It would be very interesting to see how the concept of "equipable learned skills" plays out in practice. It would be very possible to see a group of very high dps gladiators all equipped with a healing move. Everyone in the group heals the person that currently has hate, while they all try as hard as possible to get to the top of the agro list through dps alone. Someone is getting too low in health, the other glads do their taunts, or a high damage TP move... pure pwnage. At least on paper it seems that way. In practice its another story.
Since most of the encounters happen in a Group vs Group setting, I could see everyone tanking their own mob very likely.
Depends if the tank can take on all mobs alone and keep hate though. It would be taxing for the healer however, and you might run out of precious mana too fast.
I'm seriously counting the minutes until I can play this game and I can honestly say I've never looked forward to an MMO more than I'm looking forward to FFXIV. All of the different combinations and possibilities, even if they're just theories on paper as of right now, still have me very intrigued.
/Fingers crossed in hopes of getting in beta.
At least you won't run out of content anytime soon...
There's a bit of an "gotta catch 'em all" situation going on, since skills aren't tied to class.
And leveling any class has a beneficial effect on your other classes as well, at least situationally.
Just gotta make sure to enjoy the process and not make it feel like a chore it doesn't need to be.
Oh god, you should have never said that to me. I had all 150 in the original Pokemon Red. I was a pok-e-junk-e.
*edit - NOW IM GOING TO HAVE TO CATCH-EM-ALL IN FFXIV!!!!!
