Aion: Server Merge Delayed

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Aion developers have announced that the anticipated server merges will take place later than planned. Now set for July 14th, devs indicated that the delay was implemented to deal with any issues arising from characters with the same names being placed on the same server.

Once the merge occurs, a character with a name that is up to 14 letters long will have a two-letter server abbreviation added to the end of the name. For example, “Fergreedy” on Azphel would become “FergreedyAZ” after the merge.

A character name that is 15 letters long will have a one-letter server abbreviation added to the end of the name. For example, “Misterhappyface” on Azphel would become “MisterhappyfaceA”.

In the rare instance that two characters transferring to a merged server share the same name and it is 16 letters long, one of the characters will be renamed. We understand that this is an inconvenience, and regret the need to change anyone’s character name.  We will keep a close eye on the few characters that this name conflict will affect, and can confidently say the percentage of this occurrence will be very low.

Lastly, we’ll be providing all Daevas with a free Character Name Change ticket so that they can later pick a new name.

so the population got so low that they had to merge the servers? or they do it for other reasons?

probably low population servers. consolidate them into the other servers.

considering its slowly being taken over by farmers, and bots, i am not surprised people are giving up and canceling their subs.

and you guys who don't play the game are so much informed about things there, right? no bots and one or 2 gold seller, hell is have even less gold seller then any game out there.

want a reason to have merge? more people for a pvp game means bigger siege and easyer to find player to fight against,

a but who cares right? go back to grind raids

FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

Well there isn't the BIGGEST population in any game on Aion. It's not the smallest either. Most of the people are mid 30's to 50. So it's expected when you start a new character you aren't going to see many people until you get into the later content. The merges are happening because they started with too many servers, the population locks on each side spread everyone out, and then when they took them off people all flocked to the more populated servers. Leaving a couple of the servers with a slightly low population. The merge is going to help though, it will probably bring back some people as well who didn't like being on a low pop server.

It was a game that got hyped beyond all reality for a Korean RvR grinder, and many Western players left the game leaving it with low server pops. Merging is always the best policy as the hardcore that is left will stick with the game longer if playing on a few medium pop servers rather than a large number of low pop ones. The game had a really killer grind curve and not much endgame at launch, there may be more now patched in, but I don't think they made the levelling game fun enough for many players to enjoy being newbie post-launch.
