There are about 100 million "surplus" rural workers "adrift" in it's 780 million labor force (half of that force was in agriculture = 15% GDP, 53%GDP is in industry/construction [US has about 1%GDP in agriculture and 73% GDP in services.]) Many subsisting through part-time low-paying jobs. About 10% are below poverty line (US 12%.) With a serious deteration in environment (air pollution, soil erosion and fall of water table) China continues to loose arable land to grow crops.
