LFG, customization and PvP

comacoma Member Posts: 92

Hi there, I am looking for a game with the following features, hope someone can help me out. Thanks in advance :)

  • No PvE exclusive games like LoTR. Even if its not full throttle PvP like Darkfall I enjoy killing people from times to times and avoiding getting killed even for no game. I enjoyed WoW pre battlegrounds.

  • No Battleground centric PvP. I prefer PvP to be inserted in the game world,  BGs killed WoW completely for me.

  • Somewhat balanced classes or no classes with a decent ammount of customization and difference between players. I really enjoy messing with templates and planning chars to come up with intersting combinations and such.

I think what I am really looking is a game like WoW in the beta, before all the battlegrounds and rankings and wtf. I also enjoyed eve online and Darkfall but eve gameplay isnt fun and I dislike the character building/customization of darkfall. Feels like everyone is a jedi with magic/archery/melee. Kinda like CoD in a mmorpg... has it changed?  Might give it another spin. Wish I could mix EvE online's overall deep content with WoWs gameplay :sigh:

Not sure if you were around in Darkfall when melee/archery specs came out but that allowed a player to block magic for melee/archery specs and since then I have been able to compete with mages without grinding for more than witchesbrew. It has been a year since then and magic has been nerfed a couple times while buffed in other ways. Casters sure are fighting differently than they used to because now you can find those who favor the insta-cast rays (have to aim) while others are sticking with the traditional big AOEs (which have been significantly nerfed, yet again, but in an awesome way because you still do full damage if you hit your target). Everyone has been given an HP boost so you can find noobs running around with 350hp after only a month or two in. Prestige classes are coming in the next expansion pretty soon (next couple months or so). How long has it been since you played?

You really do not have many options . ..

    - DAoC is still somewhat active but you will be alone until you cap your level pretty much.

    - AoC's PVP feels very meaningless . .. but it can be pretty fun. Instanced story-line that you must follow bothers me the most but you do get some PVP in while you PVE.

    - Warhammer just was not fun for me . .. you wouldn't like it either as it is instanced battlegrounds too.

    - Aion and Lineage are grind fests and just . .. bleh not PVP games to me.

    - SB is gone.

    Am I leaving anything out?

    not really . ..

Haha its been about an year since I played DF. There were only a 2 or 3 melee skills and no archery skill whatsoever if I remember. I only played for 2 months. It was before boats even :P  What turned me off in the game was:

    • Similarity between every char. Everyone used polearms or 2h sword and had magic.

    • Items were boring... another layer or customization lost.

    • The amateurish bugs and animations.

    • The sound effects were BAD.

    • The overall emptiness of the game. The world was well designed but empty, and all you could do was farm some spawns... The game was all around those spawns.

    • the terrible chat system.

    • A sense that the game was only going downhill. Didnt expect for it to bounce as its seems to be doing.

Thats what I can remember. I am probably give it another go if I hear things have changed for the better. I just think there should be much more customization in the characters. I would really like if they had improved the diversity of combat playstyles and added a good item base. I mean whats the point of full loot if all the items are meeh. I am also reading about TCoS and Fallen Earth. Would really like more inputs :P

If it was still the game that you played than I may not have stuck around for so long . .. I just tried to play AoC a little bit before my sub ran out and actually had a little bit of fun bot got bored quick. I did a match in Guildwars and had 2 healers in my group and nobody was winning so I said "fck this" and logged onto Darkfall. lol

I wasn't planning on playing very long tonight and usually need a lot of time to play Darkfall but there really isnt much else out there . .. so I am starting to think of putting casual games aside for a bit unless it is only 10-20 min.

The game is very different now. You left before archery/melee specs . .. wow ... that means that you left right before a crappy nukewars era but missed what followed which was a lot funner (NA launch). The grind for skills has been reduced up to 6 times since then and the game has been adjusted enough that I have not had to grind much and still be able to compete with those who have. That is the main difference between now and before but it still takes months just to learn how to play . ..

I love doing the trial but I have already done it so cant do it again . .. but it is fun to see the point of view from other races so you've got nothing to lose from doing it. 2 months of EU development would be very easy to pass up now . .. 2 weeks even, especially with the knowledge you already have.

Definitely check back into Darkfall, I actually am going to myself after hearing some of the changes that have occured. Also watch for what others have suggested.

I'd add King of Kings 3 to the "watch" list. It's still in beta so I'm not sure of what all will be ingame and how well it will be executed, but here is what they are advertising, copied from the site:

    Multi-level, dynamic guild system

    Housing and town building

    PvP with conquerable towns

    Flexibility and depth

    (whatever ^ that means)

    Other features

Classes: 3 basic- warrior, mage, cleric. Each branches into 3 different sub-classes at some point. Not much in the way of character builds it seems, unless each sub-class has skill branches.

High level cap. 180 if I'm not mistaken.

    PVP

On-site rankings for the best fragger.

Differing levels of PVP-engagement: Peace (non-pvp), lone FFA open world, party (to prevent unwanted team damage), guild, legion (groups of guilds), alliance (groups of legions), realm (DAoC-style RvR)

Also, when a player dies in PVP, they have a chance to drop an item.

The game is also F2P (hopefully not P2Win) Personally, I'm definitely watching this one as I've been looking for some place to get my PVP jollies. I've already got a game for when I'm in a grindin, PVE mood.
