Tips for a Solo Assault Ship Pilot in 0.1

scars87scars87 Member Posts: 234

I don't fly a wolf yet, but as soon as I finish my learning skills I'll be flying a wolf. I'm a veterian eve player, but I started a new charater. My objective is to play for free. My idea is to have a wolf ship, a cargo ship, and a salvager ship in a 0.1 system; and stay habit there. Needless to say there is a 0.1 neighbor system the next jump over. Anyways, this sounds risky but I want to try soloing in this low sec space, if there is corps controlling it...I'll only play on odd hours of the day. I'm also a good trader, I like to save up loot and go once a week to a system like jita and sell it all for the highest buyer. If I kill and salvage wrecks in these systems will I earn enough isk to play for free? I herd I need to earn at least 300mil.

    What was your question again?

If you're a vet EVE player, you wouldn't think this was a good idea..... and you would KNOW that there is no way you're going to make any profit doing it this way. No seriously, this has to be one of the dumbest ideas to make enough ISK to live on PLEX, that I've ever heard of.

I've done this quite a bit though and I still do it every now and again. It's fun as hell. But you're going to make 0 profit. The only people you're going to blow up are probably people like you and are going to be carrying low end T1 junk.

You would probably make more profit by being those bad scammers in Jita.

Exactly. You wouldn't need to ask for help either.

    your an experienced eve player???

have you ever left high sec?

IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

When you rat, you do not salvage and collect loot as you do on missions, unless you are a part of some organized group. You rat for bounties and all you collect is faction/named items.

Low sec, quite bitterly turned out worse for small vessels after the 'low sec boost'. Before the change, there were BC as the best spawns for chaining but now you will have to engage BS and those are too hard to kill for low DPS boats such as AF.

I assume it is possible to make enough ISK to pay your PLEX as well as pay your bills but as any grinding, it is time consuming and inefficient.

Like with anything in EVE, your wit and social/negotiation skills are your best friend.

I heared you can make lot of ISK by trading. Which is probably most profitable thing to do solo.

Can you make 300 mil a month ?

    That is the question

  • VodnikenVodniken Member Posts: 4
300 m takes 1 or 2 Weeks from trading, and thats with poor skills

I'm not hunting people, I'm only hunting rats.

I might have to join the corp in this 0.1 system. It's flooded with pirates. But I know for a fact selling loot is profitable if you do it correctly. Although trading is hard and stressfull at times, but that is profitable to. I feel small ships are underestimated, people think you need a battlecruiser at least to make 300mil; I'd like to prove you wrong. Anyways, my plan of staying in 0.1 space will distinguish if the pirate corp who controls the system will accept my application. If not...I'll have to missions or find another place quieter to rat.

if you want to do this "type" of thing do it in 0.0. The mechanics of the sov system means that corps or alliances can "own" a 0.0 system. In "empire" space 0.1-1.0 all the systems are "owned" by the computer: one of the 4 races. No one can "own" a 0.1 system which means: no safety.

If you want to earn 300+ mill a month your best bet is in a system controled by a corp or alliance. You will have backup, if you are lucky, enough backup to chase any reds out so you can mine or rat in peace. Ratting you can easily make 60+ million an hour and mining 10-40 mill an hour depending on your ore choice and the market's desires.

    I hope this helps.

Oh!! PvP will never make you money. It only cost you. You make isk to fund PvP not the other way arround, period.

    WTF podded again?

     Oh.

Step 1: Get in a corp in 0.0.

    Step 2: Get a BS.

Step 3: Google -> Chaining Rats EVE

Step 4: Forget the salvager, forget the hauler, forget Jita

    Step 5: Grind 6-12hrs a day 7 days a week.

    Step 6: ????

    Step 7: Profit

in a few months, if you train your skills right and get the right ship. You'll be able to chain them fast enough to make a decent amount of money. Right now it doesn't sound like you'll be able to. Small ships are not underestimated amoung the longer term players. They just take forever to kill anything solo.

From my experience ratting in lowsec, its a terrible way to make ISK. Highest bounty rats are around half a mil and not common, I was happy getting 1 BS to chain in a system with over a dozen belts. Either go nullsec or just run 4s, imo lowsec is the land CCP forgot. I could easily make enough ISK for a PLEX in a week of casual play running 4s, my experience ratting in nullsec is very VERY limited so I can't comment but the mil+ bounties and frequency of such rats seem high plus the faction loot I imagine it can be extremely lucrative. There are plenty of ways to make absurd amounts of ISK in EVE but lowsec ratting really isn't one of them.

If you want to stay in low sec for long period of time, you cannot use any ship that use ammo/missile/drone.  Otherwise, you have to either build your own ammo or go buy them.  Wolf is nice but to bring down large ships will use too much ammo.  So you should consider train for Retribution and hunt in system with blood raider or sansha mobs.  This way you can rat all day long, no ammo need and Retribution can melt BS ships pretty quickly.  It is a tough little ship.

Just earning 300m a month in low sec is rather tough by just doing belt sweeping though.  You should consider join 0.0 corps and do it in 0.0 system.  Pretty much same amount of effort with much better reward.

Not the best, but always the first.

    Battlecruiser = 500-800 DPS
    Assault ship = 150-250 DPS

What is underestimated on those numbers?

    Yup

Making money by ratting is all about speed and DPS. The faster you can kill the BS's with the biggest bounties, the faster you make money. Unless you have someone running around behind you cleaning up, it's completely not worth it.

As soon as you can take a 500k bounty rat out in <10sec, then you can make some real money ratting.

Chaining is one of the few things I like about EVE PVE. When you get a good flow going, it's just so nice to see that money rolling in constantly and smoothly.

According to this video Wolfs are great at destroying sleepers with a couple buddies also flying assault frigs.

The post that has a lot of thumps up, posted some info about how WH space reduces sig radius and increases dmg.

    Your thoughts?

Big difference there Hoss. Plus, it's more than just a couple... it's 5 of them total.

Gd, said 150-250 DPS for a Assault Frig.

    150*5 = 750

    250*5 = 1250
