Anet does not need to reinvent the wheel in order to make a great game. Most companies simply take WoW (or their previously released game), hit clone, and send it out. Anet however, appears to be taking tried and true concepts from the MMO genre and improving upon them if not perfecting them. The things they are trying are perhaps not entirely new, but they are certainly innovative (particularly more innovative then any other game I know of being released in the near future). For example, dynamic events, at least attempting to modify the holy trinity, including a ton of social games just for fun when you don't feel like pvping or questing and just want to socialize. Regardless, none of us have played the game at this point so it all remains to be seen how this will wash out.
Although I don't agree about the "innovation" part, I do agree with the sentiment that GW2 (and SWTOR for that matter) are at least attempting to "flesh out" the usual recipe found in MMO's. Good luck to both of them I say. They are both focusing on specific areas and therefore both can help invigorate the industry.
He doesn't say CC is a new feature, he said it is not something that tanks normally do. He does not say "there has never been a tank in the history of mmo's that has used CC" or "we are implementing this new idea called CC." People are reading way too much into this. Certainly the devs are saying they have some new ideas - namely the removal of primary healers, the dynamic events system, etc. Just because they announce a feature does not mean they are saying it is brand new to the industry. In addition many of the features they describe as new are in comparison to the previous GW1 not every single MMO ever.

I'm not trying to trash the game, its just something that pops into your head when you read that dev article on the GW2 site. Now, obviously, there's more to it than that, but that's the first thing you wonder.
I mean, honestly, by now if you don't know these articles and interviews are fluff, I just don't know. Anet clearly knows what gives thier target audience ebones, and they are goin to keep turnin it on.
Hey guys! We are doin it for you, wink wink, teehee1
You just gotta wait it out, see what the game is really about, from a hands on perspective.

My point is, try to think like someone who HASN'T played GW before ever, and therefore fails to see the significance in the subtleties mentioned by the devs. Then you might understand. Anyhow, I'm off to bed, I'll leave you with that thought.

Even if I read it as someone who had never played GW, i would read it simply as devs telling us about their game. I would not wonder "why are they telling me about this feature, it's present in other games?" If you do wonder that the answer is simple. People want to know details, regardless of whether the details are similar to other games or not.
Furthermore, it becomes even more readily apparent why they are describing a tanks CC if you read the article here: http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/combat/healing-death/ They explain how they are not focused on Tank/DPS/Heal and are instead focused on Damage/Control/Support. Control = CC on some levels = Why they explain this stuff.
I find this hype on a new trinity to be interesting,
because once again, thats has never been a new feature to MMORPG genre.
Stuns,Roots, Snares, etc ,,,,,,,,,,,,
We call them "Crowd CONTROL"
See how they just renamed this aged old feature, to make it seem as if its something new and original?
Stun in WoW for example is a CC aka Crowd CONTROL.
Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt
DAoC also have strong crowd CONTROL?
why is this a new feature?
Ok, let's try again, for good fun:
it isn't so much new, as that the dynamics have changed, moving away from the classic trinity setup, (primary) tank-healer-and the rest dps. Those who played GW have the easiest points of reference: in GW the Warrior was already a different breed than tanks in other MMO's, not being an aggro manager and meatshield in GW. Also, it looks like ANet is building further upon the concept of the Protection Monk build, getting rid of healer classes.
So, what will change compared with combat in classic/current MMO's?
- healer classes are gone => Support roles strong in protection/harm prevention instead
- classic tanks are gone, no aggro managers/meatshields anymore => Control roles strong in crowd control instead (see warrior in GW)
- each class gets some a few heal skills
- accent on healing => accent on protection/harm prevention
- primary tank essential in group => crowd control essential in group
- no direct dying but first 'Downed' status similar to what you see in some FPS games.
So:
- no healer class, no primary tank class, no aggro management, instead of those you get extra focus on harm prevention/protection roles (Supporter) and crowd control roles (Control).
Sounds like a sufficiently distinct break from the classic Trinity to me.
On top of this you get:
- team combos, skills from different classes interacting with eachother
- environment use in combat.
Of course, this is all based upon what we know for now. More details will be revealed in the course of the upcoming months.
I understand people who don't buy any hype, that's a personal choice for everyone; gaming tastes differ. I'm just not buying the viewpoints of some who won't believe in anything that's being said anymore. Their loss, not my thing.

Oh joy, another Exposed thread...don't you ever give up? Here you are posting something a writer theorized on his own and claimed it was an ArenaNet Dev. WTG buddy, you fail, yet again.
Then you wanna talk about armored healers...obviously not an original idea, but ArenaNet never said it was. The "original" idea that I notice is that the armored fighter can use his shield to block an incoming projectile targeted at an ally. Whoa, wait a minute...you can use your shield to defend someone other than yourself? I've never seen that before...
There you go with the whole people repeat history crap again...
Dude, we've done this song and dance a million times...we always win, just go away and go "expose" another MMO.
Arena-Net, go take your Bull Shit Hype & Lies else were, before you get Exposed!!!!
Yeah...why aren't you banned yet? You were banned as Doubter...I don't understand what is taking so long this time around. Oh, and it's "where" not "were."
I'm not a fanyboi. If you have a legitimate reason to have a problem with the game, more power to you. I am sure it will not be perfect, will have plenty of flaws, and will not be suited to every play style. I am not saying GW2 will be the greatest game ever! I and many others here have simply pointed out how your current observations are just wrong. That's hardly fanboi-ism. Furthermore, no one has played the game, so what it will be like is completely up in the air. How about you wait and see what the game actually looks like and whether or not the features they have described are there before tearing it down. By the same token I am not extolling the game, like a fanboi would, because I have yet to play it. All I can say is so far I'm interested.

First of all, the paragraph you have quoted is not a direct quote from an ArenaNet developer, it is simply the interviewer trying to explain what they talked about.
Second, I agree with everyone else who has said "you're taking it out of context," because, well, you are.

Thing you dont seem to understand is it's not criticism, at least not valid criticism. Criticism would require you actually having some knowledge / experience of the product and have some valid points based on that knowledge.... what you are doing is simply pulling anything you can find out your ass and trying to turn it into something that it isn't just for the sake of having an excuse to dislike something. That's more like trolling / falme baiting than being an actual critic.
BTW... you're also confusing "genre" with individual companies. It's not the genre that has a history of releasing shitty games, it's particular companies that have a history of doing that, not every company. Arenanet is not one of those companies and has done a good job so far with GW and all of it's expansions, so we have no reason to doubt them yet. If you want to hate on a company that actually HAS released shitty MMOs for box sales there are plenty of them out there (Cryptic, Mythic, Funcom, etc) for you to pick on.

We all know you are though. Not only have your arguments not progressed at all but you frame them in exactly the same way, have exactly the same grammatical errors and even use the same quotes.
You have retained the gloom and doom approach to bashing every new game with a complete disregard for the available information. I have yet to see a thread in which you posted not have your arguments shredded to pieces and be derailed because of it.
The only difference with your newest forum incarnation is that you have attempted to adopt a kind of whistleblower role to attempt to make yourself seem a little more important and somehow providing a valuable community service. You just aren't very smart and it is extremely easy to expose your antics as you are unable to satisfyingly adopt a different persona under which to post.
If you are interested in GW2 and intend perusing these forums as the game develops then I suggest that any comments from MMOExposed should be summarily ignored. Save yourself a lot of hassle and time in attempting to argue with him. SImply be safe in the knowledge that if you did you would win as his arguments are not based in fact but indeed in a narcissistic need to be recognised through the systematic negativity that seems to permeate his life.
Maybe one day, maturity will touch his world and he will be able to debate a point using facts, possibly even sourcing a quite or two from an official source to back him up. I for one, shall not hold my breath.
I will say that at least every now and then he does provide a laugh, so it's not all bad.

GW1 wasnt a MMORPG by the way
And for the highlighted part,
did Warhammer not set you straight yet?
Even that was hyped up beyond the current GW2, yet we all seen were that has gone.
a Developer's past history of games mean nothing, especially when they have no MMORPG exp.
Until they can prove themselves with what they do, all the stuff they give out is Hype.
Hype Sells Boxes, but doesnt keep players.
But I guess since its F2P, ArenaB oops I mean Arena Net doesnt care about holding players, and will exploit the F2P model aspect as a reason to shield it from criticism once more come to the surface.
/fail sarcasm
But that never happens in the history of this genre....

Steam: Neph
But... but... didn't Exposed explain it to you? Anything that goes against what he says (no matter how wrong he is and how many times it's been pointed out and/or proven) simply because he misinterpreted something or is just jaded = you are a fanboy.
First of all, the paragraph you have quoted is not a direct quote from an ArenaNet developer, it is simply the interviewer trying to explain what they talked about.
Second, I agree with everyone else who has said "you're taking it out of context," because, well, you are.
This statement is false.
Oh Oh but didnt Arenab explain it to you? Since I criticize a new MMORPG game in a genre, that has a history of releasing shitty games off of Hyped Box Sells,
I must be MMODoubter

/end fail sarcasm

Hey I remember you.
You was that Warhammer fanboy, that told me this same statement on Warhammer Alliance forums during beta.
By The Way,, hows Warhammer been?

Well, you have to admit, it's a bit suspicious, if not obvious why they're saying it. MMODoubter stopped posting when you started posting, you have almost the same forumname, and the arguments you use are practically a copy of the ones MMODoubter frequently used. If you're not MMODoubter, then you're at least a MMODoubter fanboi
But in case that for some reason also this forumname may run out, or in case you need other ones, I've been so helpful to provide some other ones:
- MMODehyper
- MMOTrasher
- MMOCrusader
- MMOFail
- MMOInquisitor
- MMOCrucifier
- MMOStripped
Feel free to use them whenever you find your current one has run its course.

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Well we can add bad memory to the list then. Typical really, 5 seconds of research would really help to stop you looking like a spaz dude. I highly suggest you try it.
Please link me to a thread by MMODoubter

I just agreed that SW:TOR was over hyped.
